Considering BMW 6 Gran Coupe--INCOMING!!

I love this car and have been cross-shopping it with the A7 tdi. Might be based on the 5 but looks nothing like that car. I really don't want a car I see at every red light which is why I'm kind of leaning away (presently) from 535d xDrive. I'd only buy CPO, M Sport/Lighting pkg

The 6GC is a beautiful car. xDrive? Does BMW sell the 640d here in the US?

A7 TDI is beautiful as well and would be considerably cheaper.

The six is such an elegant car. It is something I can imagine driving through the Valley with the top down. So cool.

Thanks for the comments folks and the TrueDelta article, good stuff. my brother has the 650 'vert, manual and loves it. I have a 'vert, I don't need or want another one, unless it's a California or 430. An S7 is priced around this car but for whatever reason, used is still more than the xDrives I'm finding with equivalent mileage. The 6GC is one car I never see on the road comparatively speaking. Even A7's are becoming more abundant.

new jaguar XJ? Supercharged XF? don't see them around so often and are beautiful cars. Porsche Panamera... If you are looking for a rarer car, audis and bmws are far more plentiful.

it honestly looks a little too hatchback'y', station wagon'ish as compared to the sleeker rear rooflines on the 6 GC or the A7. Very nice car, but if we are getting really nitpicky....

I'm in love with all these GC cars: Audi A7/S7, BMW 6 GC, and Panamera.

They all look super SEXY on the road.

And yes, I love the rarity of these cars.

If you can afford a 6 GC, go for it. Please don't get a 535d. There are just so many on the road.

I am a big fan of the 6GC. I tested one a while back and it was a great compromise between style and practicality. If you have your choice of color, the white looks fantastic on this car.

I'll be driving one at the next BMW UDE event in a few weeks. I picked the 650 Gran Coupe for the street drive course. I current drive an e60 550 so I wanted to see how the twin turbo V8 feels. Like everyone else mentioned, I love the stance and lines of the car.

Definitely 640 for 2 reasons: This will not be my "fun" car, it will be a daily driver; and second, I don't want the increased weight and decreased mileage of the 650. I agree with the comment that Alpine White is the way to go. I saw one in Sarasota and it was definitely a beautiful car.

I've always loved the 6GC, however, I recently visited a BMW dealership that had an Alpina B6 and didn't find the car comfortable whatsoever. The seats were hard and side bolsters were almost nonexistent. Maybe the Alpina seats are different but I wasn't impressed.

But damn what a beautiful car

6GC is def a pretty vehicle. If you want something less common, I'd say go that route .

Have you thought at all about the Panamera? (My dad) liked the Panamera way better than the 6 series Gran Coupe because it was a lot sportier and didn't feel as boat-like, so he went with that. There are plenty of CPO Panameras out there, too. But A7/S7, 640/650 GC or Panamera would all be great options, just depending on what you're looking for.

so I spent some time looking at Panameras for shits 'n giggles and as it turns out, they're not as high priced as I thought but are still out of reach. I think an 2014 4S would be what I'd want and still too much, even used.

Here's a CPO one for $49K with 24k miles. Phantom Black on Black. Just as an example:

I can tell you a bit about the Panamera after driving it for two months. Maybe I can swing you towards getting one down the line!

We picked up a 4S as a chauffeur car for the family, probably two months ago, and we're definitely loving it! My parents love the car, and when they're not sitting in it I can drive it like the oversized cayman it is. Definitely really sporty... body roll is non existent, V6TT sounds and responds great, and PDK is damn amazing. Sports chrono is a definite MUST!! Launch control ftw. I haven't touched sports plus transmission setting yet, but when I take it to the track in the near future i'll definitely be using it. In sport mode, it's the same as all the 911 and Cayman, under heavy breaking it will auto downshift for you. Pretty nifty little feature, especially because it holds the rpm for a bit once you let off, so you can decide if you want to push the car again or just coast. Buttery smooth shifting, you don't feel anything!

For our 4S, we got the PASM option. Leaving the dampeners as is, the car is in comfort mode. Car rides very comfortable, and car doesn't feel uber soft and boaty. Turn in is sharp and responsive, unlike our old LS460 sport. Press dampers once, and you have sport chassis selected. I haven't really played around with it... I usually press the dampers twice to put it in sports plus mode. The car rides much more stiff and it feels like it's on rails. Steering feels a bit nicer, it's just a bit heavier, but turn in is blazing quick and precise. Going over uneven roads and potholes, the car softens up automatically and ride is still super compliant, and it isn't jarring at all. I was quite surprised at how it adapts to road conditions!

So far the only cons I have are:
-AC doesn't blow super cold
-Exhaust is too quiet when valves are closed
-Steering wheel doesn't go as high as I want it to. Just need another inch up on the multifunction steering wheel to get that sweet spot.
-Stupid proximity sensors/ ultrasonic interior monitoring system goes bonkers sometimes, alarm goes off when nothing is around. Luckily you can turn it off if you want.

With the pannys, AWD is the way to go! I think the 4S has a great balance of power and handling. I personally feel the car looks ugly as sin, but it doesn't matter because I can pass em' up on the corners :P

Back on topic though...
I felt meh about the 6GC... I'd rather take a A7/S7 over it. My buddy picked up a used A7 with the black grille and accents, and it has the Harman Kardon system. That system is amazing! Might be just me, but I think the fit and finish of the A7 is better than the 6GC.

Nice write up on the Panamera, Airwick. I've read good reviews on the car...just still, can't get past the exterior...and particularly that rear. But, that interior is dynamite awesome.

Chef would have to test out the BMW, Porsche, and also consider trying out the Mercedes CLS and Audi A7 before he buys methinks.

I'm not a "Mercedes kinda guy" so the CLS is definitely out. I've driven the A7 and liked it. I was at the BMW dealer yesterday and they had a car exactly like the one I posted originally-drop dead FN gorgeous with Cinnamon brown interior. I'm torn on the Panamera-I like it but it's too god damn much money for me.

Well, sounds to me it's a tossup between the Audi and BMW...

Porsche is too pricey and again, that rear. BUT, get what makes you happy and what your wallet can afford.
