Nice choices in cars, OP. I haven't been on this board in a while, even since I dumped my POS 4G TL-SH AWD. Sort of amusing to see how many people have been jumping ship away from Acura. Can't say I blame them.
I think I'm partial to the VW Golf R just because of the hatch utility, but boy does that S3 have a good silhouette.

2015 Acura TLX 3.5 V-6 FWD Test ? Review ? Car and Driver

Top gear, 50-70 mph: 3.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 14.2 sec @ 103 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 134 mph

Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.83 g

FUEL ECONOMY:
EPA city/highway: 21/34 mpg
C/D observed: 27 mpg

...so to try to appear a bit better, you are comparing the FWD version of the TLX to the S3?? Nice try....Even with the little better off the line acceleration of the FWD compared to the SH-AWD, the S3 still hit 100 mph 2.5 sec before and inflict to the TLX FWD 1.3 sec on the 1/4 and 5 mph in trap speed....I do not know in what kind of warped reality do you live but that is huge....talking about delusion....

Let me refresh your visual memory about the test difference between the TLX SH-AWD and the S3

2015 Acura TLX SH-AWD

2015 Audi S3

Case closed....I hope....

Thanks.. Don't see much AWD 4G TL's around but that must of been some fun.

I thank the wifey for picking the car and not going the simple route (hybrid). Still need a 3rd car for long trips.

I might of gone with the Golf R if it had AWD. I was stuck in Mud a lot of times with my TLS that my next car had to have AWD.

Sometimes moving away from Acura to something else is a good thing, change is good. Acura didn't have the car that fit my lifestyle, a compact, AWD sports car.

Finally the best snow season ever in Northern California!!

I don't need any refreshing. I know what I wrote..

AWD is a dead weight 99.9% of the time and a gimmick for gadget lovers. Gimme a 2WD any time, preferably with a LSD. If I was given a choice, I would have got that FWD Acura, like the 4-cyl.

BTW, meet the FWD Audi racecar.

This Is Audi's Insane Front-Wheel Drive TT-RS Racecar

This car shouldn't exist.

It's a total anomaly, built for a specific class in a race series that only ever races on one track. Usually in cases like this the cars are one-off specials, built by race shops for privateer clients that want to go racing. They are usually well built and competitive but rarely shake up the established order of things.

It was on this battleground that Audi quattro gmbh decided it was time for a little shock and awe. And they shocked and they awed.

Ladies and gents: Let me introduce you to the Audi TT RS Racecar.

(Full Disclosure: Robb is racing this car, as should be clear in the piece. Just in case: He's racing the car and therefore is rightly proud and boastful.)

As fates would have there exists a series known as the VLN, and the one sole track that they race on is the legendary Nürburgring. In Germany the VLN is seen the same way that Nebraska sees college football, which is something akin to religion.

Ten weekends a year the best teams, drivers and manufacturers get together on the toughest racetrack in the world to battle for supremacy. Under the hood, the TT-RS Racecar (yes, that is its official name) carries over the 2.5 liter 5-cylinder engine from the roadgoing TT-RS with some enhancements. Power is up by 20 to 380 horsepower, and torque increases by 47 pound feet to get you 390. Quattro also worked a little vorsprung durch technik, getting weight down by nearly 900 pounds to make the TT-RS a sprightly 2,425 pounds.

Not all that shocking is it? Oh, but did I mention that Audi decided to scrap the production TT RS's all-wheel drive? Well they did, they scrapped it for an (sarcasm in 3-2-1) all dominating, race inspired... front wheel drive set up.

...
While the TT comes close to matching the the R8's pace in the dry it is actually quicker than it's big brother in wet conditions. Amazingly, the FWD platform gives the driver more directional control and stability. In fact the TT RS is so good that it is the only FWD car in history to sit on pole AND the top step of the podium at a VLN race.

For those of you that like to argue that FWD is an inferior platform, you probably shouldn't have read this.

...and your point is??? That FWD can be very fun and a small agile FWD is actually great in some specific situation/competition?? So??

Choice between what and what, exactly?

You would take a I4 TLX over what? An S3? RWD?

You brought up a FWD TLX test numbers declaring that is not that slower compared to an S3, not that the OP care because it seems to me that he wanted an AWD car both for him and his wife,...it is slower and by a lot,...you would definitely notice the difference, not need for a chronograph, not even a comparison really, no matter what you may think in your alternative reality....

I watched a few youtube videos with the S3 running an APR Tune, catback system and an intake.. One nailed 11.9 1/4 run. Mostly 12.1-12.3 all day. That's impressive! A lot of potential out of these.

Lovely choices!!! Enjoy them!

And what are Mods doing? Saintor is still on AZine? He's been derailing every single thread he posts forever. Ban him and move on.

I like both choices! I have a 3G TL-S with low miles, and my girlfriend has an Impreza (non-turbo). We have the Lexus IS 350 and WRX on our radar. I would choose the S3, but my only hold back is the reliability (compared to Japanese brands). We keep cars a long time so reliability is a big factor for us and I don't think the small performance advantages are worth the extra trips to the shop.

Totally understand the reliability concerns, but Audi has done well in the last half decade in both Consumer Reports and JD Power Associates reliability.

Love that color S3. Wish Audi offered a manual, as I would consider it then.
