disregardable notes from a dumbass layman viewer:
Thoroughly enjoy this thread. As an intense social observer, I find street photography the truest genre: capable of story and mood in a single frame.
Yet I struggle to reconcile the candid drama with the sense of "violation". Having acknowledged that conflict: timing is critical -- the occasional scowl disrupts the authenticity of the scene.
Please include a few words of what and where. Despite technical excellence, a pic that cannot be placed in a city or event loses much of it's appeal. Placing the scene, allows the viewer to correlate nationalities, climate, attitudes...and "feel" the moment.
Finally, I hope you outstanding photographers can continue to capture the human condition before this entire freakin' planet is stumbling around, staring down at their phones.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
I disagree.
My favorite photographer, Gary Winogrand, said it best: "The thing has to be complete in the frame, whether you have the narrative information or not. It has to be complete in the frame."
This quote, which I heard in my first photography class, has defined my approach to photography.
Check this out:
To me, street photography is all about what is captured in the frame. If you want to start documenting a scene, adding context and a story, then you're more into the documentary photography or photojournalism realms. Again, I'm not arguing formal semantics - just stating my view.

am glad it Jaipur (rural area) compared to Chicago (pretty urban), if its was Bombay/Mumbai, you would need a wide angle lens LOL

This is all I have to offer right now but I'm sure the streets of Portland have far more potential than this lone picture I shot on Christmas Day, hence the otherwise empty street.
