Zeiss 50mm f1.4

I'm not sure how Sony is going to handle the 50mm, there's the nifty fifty that will always be around, the current 50mm f1.4 which is a bad lens @ around $300 - $400 (can't remember exactly), now the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 that's most likely going to be $1000 or more.

In the end, IMO the Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM is still the best deal/best bang for the buck, especially if you find a good used copy

I've known this since the year 2000..... *patsmyselfontheback*
Actually, megapixels do matter

“Everybody says there is no need for more pixels, and we should reduce the number to a reasonable number so the quality will improve,” Guichard said. However, DxO’s aggregate measurements tell a different story: “If we look at the cameras, there are more and more pixels, and the quality is increasing in the meantime.”

Sony announces SLT-A58 20MP mid-level DSLR-style camera

Sony has announced the Alpha SLT-A58, a mid-range SLT camera with a newly-developed 20MP sensor. The A58 will replace both the A37 and A57 models, helping to simplify the company's lineup. The A58 builds on the A57's feature set and gains an SVGA (800x600 pixel) OLED viewfinder, rather than its predecessors' LCDs. It gains a new lock-on focus mode and Auto Object Framing mode - an extension of the auto portrait mode in the A57. It will be sold with a redesigned DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II kit lens that offers quieter autofocus. The camera is not being launched in the USA at this point.

Sony announces NEX-3N 16MP entry-level mirrorless camera

http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/02...rorless-camera

Sony has announced the NEX-3N, its entry-level NEX camera, replacing the NEX-F3. The 3N is, as before, aimed at users stepping up from compact cameras and gains a compact-style zoom lever around its shutter button. It features a smaller body than the F3, and Sony says it is the smallest, lightest mirrorless camera to feature an APS-C sensor, despite featuring a built-in flash. The camera will be bundled with the e-mount 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 power zoom lens, to make the most of the camera's zoom control.

-No-fuss self-portraits with 180° tiltable LCD screen and zoom lever
-Large Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor with 16.1 effective megapixels and high sensitivity, for detail-packed, low noise photos and Full HD video
-Beautiful compositions made easy with new Auto Object Framing
-Light, compact body with pop-up flash

Sony can seriously eat a fat dick.

Out of the 30 minutes I spent at a photo show today, which was a waste in and of itself, I spent about half of that in a debate with a Sony rep.

My friend's production company bought and use a Sony FS700 camera. Its a high end prosumer HD camera...capable of 4K with proper upgrades...It also comes with a Sony E mount (NEX) and an E mount kit lens.

Now when we shoot higher end projects on it, we tend to rent an adapter and use Canon lenses on it.

BUT...part of that reason is there is SHIT for E mount glass, accept for some wider primes.

There are NO good fixed aperture lenses.

When I proceeded to ask Sony about this all I got were excuses, and the market opens itself to other more expensive glass so you 'd want an adapter anyway, etc.

I said...yeah OK...but about the people who buy into the NEX mirror less system which competes against micro 4/3s users who DO have great glass and zooms available are fixed apertures. He had no answer...except to try and say Sony has a bigger sensor...which means dick in the long run.

He also tried to get into a debate with about cinema glass and certain makers...which I have all used practically on set, and that jackass has sat in a meeting and been told what to say about those lenses. I shut him up pretty quick about that topic.

So, Sony basically is saying, they don't know their market. They don't support their market. And they don't believe in their market.

It really, once again, turned me off to Sony who I thought made a big turn in the last couple of years...guess not.

I can't even entertain the thought of spending any money on ANY of their products at this point.

Bogus.

RX1R and RX100 MKII

The difference between the RX1 and the new RX1R is just that the R version has no Anti Aliasing filter. But the differences between the RX100 and the RX100M2 are a bit more…”consistent”. The sensor is Exmor R (20mp) but the lens is exactly the same from the current RX100. And these are the other new RX100MKII features:
1. it has wifi module 802.11b/g/n
2. it has NFC module
3. Multi interface shoe
4. mini-HDMI move from bottom next to Micro-USB
5. battery life get a little boost from 330 to 350
6. ISO start from 100
7. support EVF
8. zoom ring can be set to smooth or click
9. can choose to disable movie button
10. WB bracket
11. battery recharge time is significantly longer (0.5a vs 1.5a)
12. weight increase from 240g to 281g(w/card and battery)
13. Tilt screen

San Diego – Sony introduced Thursday a pair of advanced RX-series Cyber-shot point-and-shoot cameras targeting the professional/advanced amateur audiences.

Models DSC-RX1R/B ($2,799 suggested retail price) and DSC-RX100M2/B ($749 suggested retail) both feature advanced CMOS sensors, with the former featuring a 24.3-megapixel 35mm full-frame Exmor sensor and the latter offering a one-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor. Both models also include Sony’s latest BIONZ image processors.
Sony said both cameras are additions to the RX line and will not be replacing the current RX1 or RX100 models. The RX1R will be slotted in higher than the previous RX1, and removes the optical low pass filter of the RX1 for improved resolution and image quality. The filter will continue to be included in the RX1 to reduce artifacts such as moiré.
The RX1R is also said to produce superior contrast levels to the RX1.
It includes a fixed focal length 37mm lens at F2-22 Carl Zeiss lens.
The RX100 features a 28-100mm focal range (35mm equivalent) F1.8 lense.
Both models will also support FullHD 1080/60p and 1080/24p video resolution in AVCHD compression format, and up to 1440-by-1080/30fps in MP4.
The RX1R supports an ISO range for still images from 100-25,600 (100-102,400 in EV step) while the RX100RM2 supports an ISO range from 160-25,600.
The RX100M2 uses a new sensor production technique to produce a Exmor R CMOS sensor as large as 1-inch. This is said to significantly improve the camera’s low-light picture image capability.
The RX100M2 also offers burst shooting speeds up to 10fps at 20.2-megapixel resolution.
The RX1R offers burst shooting speeds up to 5fps in speed priority mode and 2.5 fps (AF-S).
Both models include pop-up flashes and 3-inch (1.2 million dot) LCD monitors. The RX100RM2 adds an 84-degree-up, 43-degrees-down tilting screen.
The RX100M2, which has a compact body design, will also support Wi-Fi wireless connectivity and image transfer and will be the first NFC-enabled digital imaging device from Sony, allowing transferring images by typing the camera with another Wi-Fi-enable device like a smartphone or a tablet.

exciting, these new cameras are gonna be #boss!

thanks for the link Ken

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-s...-16-megapixel/

(SR4) Sony developed three new Full Frame sensors. 24, 32 and 36 Megapixel.

The next generation A-mount and E-mount Full Frame cameras will feature a newly designed Sony Full Frame sensor. There are three different versions that have been developed: 24, 32 and 36 megapixel sensors. It’s still hard to say which camera will use which sensor…

The first camera suing the new sensor shoudl be the NEX-FF!

DSC-QX10 QX100

Lens-camera: What you see on these images are the DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lenses. Actually these are not normal lenses! They have built-in sensor, Bionz processor, Wifi/NFC wireless connection and SD card slot. These lenses have no LCD screen and no usual camera controls. You will be able to control them through your smart phone or tablet (via WiFi or NFC). The lenses can be magnetically attached on your smartphone and it works on both, Android and iOS devices. That is nothing like we have seen before. For the first time you can shoot top quality images with your smartphone. Forget these iPhone or Android lens kits!

Sony will soon launch two “lens-cameras”:
1) One is the “Lens-camera” with RX100MII sensor and Zeiss lens ($600 here on Amazon). On the pictures it is the bigger lens. As you know the RX100 is the most praised high end compact camera and features a large 1 inch sensor which is the same used by the Nikon 1 system. Now you can have that kind of Image Quality on your iPhone or Android Smartphone!
2) The second model will feature a 10xzoom lens with 1/2,3 inch 18 megapixel CMOS sensor (the image with the f/3,3-5.9 lens). It’s basically the same sensor and lens of the Sony WX150 ($400 on Amazon).

What do you guys think about this? It's just a lens plus sensor that's controlled wirelessly by your phone.

depends on the price. I just went to a concert tonight and this would've been nice.

but currently, having the Eye-Fi Mobi on my NEX-5N does just fine. It transfers immediately to my phone and I just use it to upload to Facebook, Photobucket or Flickr from there. If I need to do any mild adjustments, I just use Snapseed first.

edit: I just now read the $600 price point. So, my question is... will this shoot RAW? $600 just almost the cost of the RX100 MkII

if anything, I'd be more interested in the other model, the one with the 10x zoom

that lens thing is potentially cool - since its basically a way to do what I've wanted for a while - which is have the phone tied to a high quality camera and sensor. But, it will depend on price.

i like that they will offer a case that you can mount it onto your phone.
