I could have shot that hand-held though - that was at f/6.3 - could have done it hand-held easily at 1.8 with ISO 800

I am still learning the camera - as I go along I'm finding out that for regular use I just leave it in one of the auto modes like i-Auto - and let it do its thing - it does a nice job and I don't have to worry about the settings really - which is precisely what you need for general use, like if you're with people and you just want to snap a shot and move along without having to fiddle with settings etc.

That little camera has come nice IQ!
I am impressed it did not try to lighten the whole scene... Wish that camera was in the budget right now.

Well, ordered the Olympus XZ-1 on 11/19. Missed the super discount price of $199 but paid $259 for it. Seems to be back up to $300+ range...
Only issue is that I ordered from Amazon storefront shop called Phototech and it's now been two full days and the order has not even been marked as shipped... I don't have high hopes...

Truthfully, I needed a camera that was able to do really good macro/closeups of computer/hard drive/equipment serial numbers without flash. The above pic is the tip of a USB thumb drive with serial number. The lens in the above pic was basically touching the thumb drive while taking that pic (a mm or two away...) so it has great close focusing distance on the Macro(S) setting.
This P+S is nice with the f1.8 lens and the above pic shows the level of detail I need to be able to capture and is a small enough camera that I can throw it in a large pelican case with 60 pounds of other gear and it does not take up too much space.
Certainly not the be all end all of P+S but a good step up from the Canon Powershot SD 750 I was trying to use... DPReviews seems to have good thing to say about it too, so maybe it ends up being my pocket camera as well...

Sorry but is there a way to adjust the depth of field on this camera for auto modes? I tried those modes and it blurrs out stuff too much around it more than I like. Like if I take a picture from the corner of a car it blurrs out the rest too much in the back.

I think you are referring to the selected f-stop, such as f1.8, f2.0. The lower the number, the larger the aperture and generally speaking the more blur in areas not in the focal plane. Try setting the camera to "A" and then use the front dial to select the largest number (f8.0). That should work for you.
Here is a good read if you are interested in learning a little: http://photo.net/learn/basic-photo-t...tterspeed-iso/

Sony Unveils Five New Cyber-Shot Cameras
At their press event this evening, Sony launched five new Cyber-Shot models in to the market; the DSC-H200, DSC-TF1, DSC-W730, DSC-W710, and the DSC-WX80. While each model represents one of three popular lines from Sony (their super-zoom H-series, lifeproof T-series, and compact W-series), they all have a few things in common. Each model boasts enhanced Intelligent or Superior Auto modes, improved AF speed, upgraded image stabilization systems (aka SteadyShot and Optical SteadyShot), improved intelligent flash units, and enhanced picture effects; including the new Virtual Cosmetic Surgery mode. Pricing seems to be quite good as well, with the four out of the five cameras coming in under $200, and the most expensive unit being just $250.
To get the specifics on all five models, see our previews by clicking the links below.

really cool thing about this camera is that it goes 25mm wide - MOST of these small cameras are usually 28mm. and f/1.8 on the wide end.

damn, the Nikon P330 has a range of 24-120mm with f/1.8-5.6 lens... I can't think of another one in this class that goes this wide... the widest is typically 28mm...

Hey guys... taking a trip to Puerto Rico in June... looking for a nice P&S to bring along with me. Any recommendations? Have a budget of about ~$400
Was considering a GoPro Black Edition since I'll be doing a bunch of underwater acitvites, but I also want to take some nice pictures and I'm not sure that the GoPro will be capable of that.

Yeah they have an LCD screen now but it is something that you have to buy seperately.. and if you want to use the LCD screen you can't use the battery bacpack for extra battery life
And thanks! I'll check that link out as soon as I'm off from work. Unfortunately, they have all shopping/auction sites blocked off.
I'm really diggin' that Sony RX100 but damn it is still so expensive!

iSeeYouTwo,
Consider purchasing a good point and shoot and then find a place to rent an underwater housing for it for the week. May give you really good normal photos and the chance to take it underwater without having to purchase the housing ($$$).
