SAL glass is their a-mount glass. You would need the LA-EA3 adapter to use it with the A6000/A6300

The a6000 doesn't have an all around lens other than the kit. Seems like you would have to spend some bucks on the adapter or get a hand full of primes. I would buy an a6000 in a heartbeat if they offered a quality all purpose lens.

There is a zeiss lens that is good for general purpose.

The SEL1670Z

It's a 16-70mm f4

FF equivalent is 24-105mm

I used it once during my trip to Europe. Worked great.

The 24-105 was sh1t with AF even on the newest firmware and the metabones 4, teh 70-200 non-IS didn't AF at all due to being too old, and the same with the 50 1.4. Rather than buying new Canon lenses for adapter use, I just went native and hope for the best. The market is growing and the demand is hot. If I decide to get out and back to Canon, I won't lose much if any money on it.

The Zeiss 55 blows the 50 1.4 (and probably the 1.2L too) out of the water in terms of sharpness, color, bokeh, and overall image rendering. It's 95% of the $4000 Otus lenses no doubt.

I'll write up something on the FE 28mm when I get it tomorrow.

Why did Canon win out? The lens lineup has improved drastically in the past year. Also, were you looking at E mount lenses or FE mount? The A6000 is an APS-C body so you don't need the more expensive FE lenses as those are full frame compatible, there are lots of APS-C E mount lenses on the market for a lot less money including some really nice Zeiss ones (the Touit ones specifically).

If I were in the market for a entry to mid level SLR, it would be the A6000 or A6300 without a question. The quality, size, and ability of both of those far outweighs that of any of the Rebel cameras. And if you really want to use the Canon glass, slap an adapter on and go for it.

There are lots of relatively inexpensive quality all purpose lenses in the APS-C range.

For starters:
16-70/4
10-18/4
24-240 (FE lens but not pricey and it covers a massive range with good results)
18-200

etc...

This. The 16-70 is the one you want for APS-C use. I'm guessing there will be many more lenses to be released in the coming year too.

there's also the 18-105mm F4 that's not so expensive and have pretty decent reviews. The only complaint I've heard was related to video due to the pincushion distortion.

Obvious reason to stay with Canon are the enormous lens collection and also the investment made into there format.

Obvious reason to jump to the Sony a6000 is the smaller size of its system and there decent lineup of primes.

The sony kit lens gets a lot of good reviews (better than canons kit lens IMO) as well as the 16-70. The size and sensor of the a6000 is screaming "buy me" but the investment in canon is saying no.

as a long time Sony shooter and big fanboy, I never insist on people to jump ship (to Sony), unless they are hell bent on switching... then at that point, I don't need to do any convincing anyways. I'm the same way when people ask about jumping over to Android from iPhone.

at the end of the day, it's all about skills and knowledge, and obviously just keep shooting. Gear talk is cool and all, but I'm seeing all these people posting and bragging about the new Sony G-Master 85mm F1.4 they just got (new lens that was recently released), but I haven't really seen anything impressive. The stuff could've been shot with the much cheaper Canon 85mm F1.8 USM on a classic 5D for all I know

I see great pictures being taken on both systems. The sony and canon are more than capable of taking good portraits, landscapes and so on and so on.

You're certainly not going to lose out by sticking with Canon, that's for sure. You already know the upsides and downsides of switching but I wouldn't count your investment into the system as a roadblock. I sold all my Canon stuff for at or more what I bought it for (other than the body) and used that cash to finance the Sony gear.

Ok I lied, not done yet. Found an awesome deal on a new bag so I had to pull the trigger. While my old bag was awesome for the 40D, 70-200/2.8, 24-105, 50/1.4, batteries, mem cards, accessories, etc...it was simply too big for the Sony set up so I had to get a new bag.

Yea it'll work, it'll just run in crop mode, so you won't get the full 24 megapixels
It's about 10MP

You should let me know how you like the 24-70 f4. I really wanted that one but it doesn't get the best reviews for image and build quality for the price tag.

Did you buy everything new? Congrats and welcome to mirrorless, you'll like it here.

I've had two copies of the Zeiss 24-70mm F4 (because one got stolen, and 2nd one was the insurance replacement) and both was/is great. I think there might have been a bad batch earlier on, but you tend to only read about the complaints since those people generally "speak louder" online. Occasionally, you'll read from people (like me) that will say the lens is good. The only other option is the even more expensive G-Master F2.8... or getting other mounts via adapters, which works fine too, but you miss out on features like "Eye-AF" which I love, but some people can probably live without

Yea it's like that Sony SEL1670Z lens, gets bad reviews online, but I really liked the IQ from it (at least from the copy I rented)

But I do hear that the QC isn't so great so there are lots of good and bad copies out there. Mainly decentering is the issue I hear.

will do. I haven't had much time to play with it, last few weeks have been crazy with events and other shoots.

I did get it all new - oh and my first mirrorless was the Panny GF1! and I also have the GX1. big fan of those.

DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. I'm not flying this until I've watched more tutorials, knowing me, I'll crash it right away

As with any drone operators, it's not a matter of IF you will crash your drone, but when.

make sure to buy extra props

it came with extra set, but if it goes down in the water, which I "had" plan on flying the thing over, then... it's done But I probably won't do that in the beginning... I plan on going out to open fields and practice first

I'd get the 35mm F2 USM, I almost bought a used one from someone but with the Metabones adapter, all AF modes worked great except AF-C, which hunted too much, I was planning on using it for street photography which I'd need AF-C most so I passed on it, it's too bad though because it was a sharp lens

Why is it that every time I see the word photography in a thread title, I automatically read it as pornography? I literally thought this thread said pornography equipment....

I've really started to like the 28mm focal length. It's a great compromise between the ultrawide and the middle range focal lengths. I actually use my 28mm 50% of the time, the 55mm 40% of the time, and the 85mm probably 10% of the time.

I have all three of those lenses and for me, they all serve a purpose... though I can't say which one is used most... what's great about them (all 3 of them) is that I can mount them on an APS-C body (like my a6000) and they offer a total different feel, especially the 28mm F2
