Suite. You'll love the 10-22. It's also going to pair well with your 28-135.

Grab a 50 f/1.8 when the next urge to buy gear strikes you. For a hundred bucks, it's hard not to have one in the bag...

Anyone have any insight for Nikon Lens?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF PRO DX for my Nikon D70.

Seems like you already decided on the 10-22. I've read LOTS of great reviews for this lens, and seen many great pictures come from it. You might find it a little slow for indoor baby portraits, but like Dan said, the nifty fifty is cheap and fun because of it's shallow DOF. On a cropped body though, it may be a tad long. Another option (~$430) would be the Sigma 30 f/1.4...

AMEN!!! I absolutely LOVE this lens! Very silent USM, IS, and 2.8 aperture make this lens superb. Pictures are very sharp throughout the apertures. Def. recommend this lens for a general walk-around/indoor lens.

Nah, this is Canon Country man. J/K

Nikon seems to have an almost exact counterpart for every lens in the Canon line-up. Every review I've read for Nikon lenses seems to give them solid write-ups. It seems like it's just a matter of which platform you want to get into. The new Nikon bodies make it a tough choice. I always coveted Nikon film bodies.

Lens dilemma.

I'm narrowed my lens purchase down to 3. A 70-200 f4L, a 70-300 IS or the new 55-250 IS. Obviously the 70-200 is my first choice but even my price for the 70-200 is a lot. Almost 3 times of the price of what I can get a 55-250 for. And a 70-300 is double what I can get the 55-250 for. I know there aren't any 55-250 reviews out yet but will the 70-200 be worth the extra 500+ over it? I don't think I'm quite prepared to drop close to 1K on a lense just yet.

On the other hand there are many used examples of the 70-200 f4L available locally on craig list for ~600. Anyone have any experience with buying used lenses? Recommended? What to look for?

im confused the 70-200 f4 should be the same price as the 70-300 IS, unless you're talking about the 70-200 f4 IS.

The 70-200 is usually about $100 more than the 70-300 up here. But my price gap is closer to $250. The 55-250 about $300 less than the 70-300.

Which makes me wonder if the 70-300 is worth twice as much as the 55-250?

i have the 70-300 IS and it is a fantastic lens, only issue i have with it is that its not a fast lens so its best suited for daytime outdoor use.

I'm also considering getting the 70-300 IS, and after reading a few reviews, I think I'm sold on it. Was considering the 70-300 IS DO, but it goes for almost the same price as the 70-200.

The 70-300 was what I was going to purchase but from the discussion I've seen over at dpreview they think the 55-250 IS should be about as good if not better based on the MTF charts released. So at nearly double the cost, will it be worth stepping up to the 70-300 for the extra 50mm and USM?

As much as I love the 70-200, I think you'd probably be fine with the 55-250. The new IS system sounds great and it would be hard to beat the price. You can always trade up down the road if you feel that the 55-250 is lacking. Maybe there are other things you could put the difference towards, like a nice tripod, or a 430EX...

I believe you will be very happy with both of those lenses. My 50/1.4 stays on my 20D 90% of the time, I love it. Lots of people speak very highly of the 10-22...my reluctance to buying it is that it isn't an EF lens.

I feel the same way ef-s lenses, this is the only ef-s lens that I own. Just because of the wide.

Shouldn't you be on your honeymoon?

Thanks. I'm going with the 55-250. I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

Can't believe I haven't ordered the 50mm 1.8 yet.

Soopa, how you liking the 40D?

Suite! Those two lenses are in my wish list too, after the 70-200 2.8 IS

You're going to love the 50 for baby shots! Enjoy, and post some pics up.

If you ever upgrade to FF, the resale value of lenses is very good. You might loose ~$50. I say just go for EF-S lenses while you have cropped cameras,

That thing is amazing!!!

They also had the 40D there. Nothing for sale, just the Canon rep. I'm very impressed with the 40D, lots of nice changes from the 30D. I noticed the highlight clipping is displayed on the LCD. I also really like the shutter sound. And the viewfinder was nice.

Likewise, if you find one let me know. A couple weeks prior to labor day, I called every camera shop I could find in my area and no one has them. The best I got out of anyone was mid October for availability, but I'm sure it's a guess.

I don't even play the lotto. I've just been saving money and now I have some stock that is worth a lot after saving it for 7 years, so I decided to splurge a little.

When I placed the order it was declined on my credit card. My phone rang within 2 minutes...I was quite surprised it was my CC company. Then later that evening a woman from newegg called to confirm it was me who placed the order.

Someone (a photography student) told me the 24-105 f/4L IS will give better color than the 24-70 f/2.8L. Anyone have any comment on that?

I don't have a 24-105 to compare against, but I just bought the 24-70 F/2.8L and I love it so far (obviously subjective). B&H had a special on it for $980 so I bought one this past week.

Hard to imagine, the f/2.8 glass is clearly brighter in the viewfinder and one could argue a tick more clear so you would imagine that the f/2.8 glass is controlling aperture at f4 with the blades (diaphram) and not the duller darker glass itself.

That said I can't tell a hill of beans apart between my 17-40L, my buddies 16-35mmL II, or my other buddies 17-55/2.8 EFS at the same settings on my gear.

I love my 24-70L if you need f/2.8 go for it, else go for the 24-105 just to save weight and gain IS. These 2 lenses are going to look the same at equal apertures.

that's what I needed to know... thanks. I guess I have some anxiety about getting the 24-70 as my primary lens because I am gonna be selling the 24-105.

One thing that I've heard many times over the last year. If you have a good/great lens, don't give it up for another one. Many say it too hard to find good glass. Your 24-105 takes great pictures.

Didn't mean to give you something else for your anxiety, but I had to throw it in.
