Exactly, and if I knew what type of shots cause Moire and how to minimize/avoid it. I'd go with the D800E as well

*update*

I just got off the phone with B&H, and they saying that it could take up to 5-6 months wait. FML.

Other hand, if I order Mark III today, I should have it within two weeks.
I can't decide... I hope the this batch of Mark III has no lighting issue.

That shouldn't be a problem, unless they run out of black tape.

Because the d800E has VERY specific applications. The D800 is going work for more people than the E.

Want to shoot video? The E is NOT the right choice. PERIOD.

Action shots? Again...NOT the E.

The E is for studio shooters and landscape shooters. People who really take time in setting up shots. Where the real difference in sharpness will shine.

Differences on most photography 99% of people will never notice unless they are pixel peeping.

I'm not so sure if the flood was the only reason for things going up in price... (btw, lenses in general have ALL gone up, in all mounts). It also has something to do with the currency exchange from what I've read.

Not really being cheap. Plenty of electronics are built that way.

But I don't really see it as being an issue unless you do very very very long exposures

Then you don't understand how photographs work.

As far as my understanding of the issue, if you turn on the light or shine a bright light to the top screen, it messes with the exposure and metering.

Do you understand how a camera works?

How film works? real celluloid?

Then, can you translate that into understanding digital?

A light leak, is a light leak, works the same way.

Yes I understand that, I'm just going by what people have posted when testing for the issue and canons own statement on the issue.

I am also getting mix reviews regarding about light issue...some people are saying no big of deal, and some are saying it is an issue.

As long as serial number doesn't end with xxxxx1 (or 2), it should be fine. I am planning on ordering it 2weeks from today.. hoping that it would be factory repair models that would come.

OK...bit into temptation and opened it...only opened items that weren't actually sealed shut. body and battery really.

The camera is very nice to hold...and funny enough, despite the very different layout vs my D3....it was very intuitive to use, I pretty much knew where most buttons were by instinct even though they are in totally different locations from my older body.

I only did some quick playing around for about 10 minutes. No video yet, nothing complicated....shot in my dimly naturally lit living room as we were getting the boys ready for bed.

I shot at full res raw....holy fuck these files are huge (14 images was about 515MB)
And they royally choke my laptop when using lightroom...this means they are going to give my iMac cardiac arrest.

everything was exported to 1200x1200

Everything will be presented in this order
(Image as taken in camera - post processed - and approx 100% crop)

So...first 3 shots, ISO 800, 1/100, f2.8

Next shot ISO 3200, 1/80, 2.8

Last shot ISO 2000, 1/80, 2.8

Oh yeah....in the first image, the cropped version at ISO 800. You can definitely see chroma noise in the large shadow areas as well as splotchiness around his left eye...but thats about 3 stops increased in LR.

Well, take into account I was 3-4 stops underexposed and boosted it in LR. That in itself introduces noise, and you're really only seeing it at the 100% crop.

Its really hard to compare how comparable it is to my D3 at the moment, I was only fucking with the camera for a few minutes, and the D3 is currently at Nikon.

But it seems fairly impressive so far. I mean...when you're looking at a image thats 7360x4912 pixels....youre going to inherently see more noise than an image thats half thats 4256x2832.

I opted to not pre-order one because the jury was on on low light performance.

So, last week I put my name on a list at a store I used to buy from in NJ...then, later that day I was approved for the Nikon Pro List, to purchase through that store...which bumps me up to the top. But I was told it would be 2 or so weeks

THEN, on Tuesday for shits and giggles I decided call a best buy near me (they sell them online only) and by some weird stroke of luck they had ONE...it was an unopened return from an online sale. So, I bought it...Other people were trying to get it as well.

Thursday I get a call saying my camera arrived at the store in Jersey! So, I ordered it as well.

So, when the jersey one comes I'll return it to BB. Since I paid tax at BB, and I didn't through the NJ store.

I hedged my bets. And through research I found out a small number of cameras are having an issues with the left autofocus sensors...And the one I picked up from BB checked out great, though I'm sure the one coming is fine, too.

I also managed to find a fucking extra battery for this thing today...Those are proving to be 100x harder to get than the cameras now.

I was pretty happy, MP wise, when we hit 10 meg cameras.
That was more than enough. I now cringe when I see megapixel bumps.

My last camera upgrades kind of forced CPU upgrades for my computer and hard drive upgrades for my laptop. sigh. Luckily I overkilled last time, so I'm hopefully good to go for a while.

Oh, and nice pics. If a fire burned down all my camera gear, it'd be a real head scratcher deciding what to buy.

This camera is definitely impacting how I shoot...its almost like going back to film. Needing to be more selective...And Im going to have to be more diligent about deleting non-selects.

Nikon Patents In-Camera Feature for Sharper Panning Photographs

  • Michael Zhang · Jun 04, 2012

A new Nikon patent unearthed by Egami shows that the company has developed a new in-camera feature that assists in panning photographs. Tracking a moving subject with your camera and shooting a longer exposure shot creates photos that contain motion blur and a sense of action, but getting the subject perfectly sharp can be difficult. Nikon wants to use some fancy digital trickery to get around this problem. The feature snaps two photographs — one at a slower shutter speed and one at a faster one — and then selectively blends the images together. The subject subject in the fast shutter speed shot is extracted and used to replace the blurry one, producing an image that has a blurred background but sharp moving subject.

Interesting...I thought the 5D III had more DR and better high ISO performance than the D800. Consider me shocked....and happy

Im also surprised to see they are saying the D3200 has around 2 stop more DR as well. Though the 5D III still wins in ISO.

it's ridiculous that Nikon was able to reach those levels with 36mp!

yeah I was surprised by the DR on the D3200... I would love to try one out.

did another comparison - curious -
