7D + 5DIII seems like a pretty dreamy combo to me. I'll keep the 7D.

I'm in love with full frame after having the 5DII for a while. I'm hardly ever using my 7D anymore.

agreed, and FF is nice but zooms sure are nice on a crop.

oh uh, I mean..

having both would be a stellar combo.

My D3 will shoot cropped if I want. I'm assuming its an option on all the FF bodies. At least I would think.

From what I understand you can get the same effect the nikons get by just going into photoshop and cropping a photo produced by a FF. I think the nikons just use a small surface area to simulate a crop, so you're technically losing some resolution. Not like the 18mp of a full frame will go into an 18mp cropped version.

that's what I was thinking it meant. if it's just a physically cropped image, BFD. I can do that in post.

Thats a true statement, which is what I do...I'd rather have the options in post.

That said...the crops still blow up quite nice. The whole mp thing...so tired of that BS.

I looked it up, the cropped mode on the D3 is 6.7mp. and the point here is not that it's fewer megapixels, its that its just a convenience, its something you can do in post, all you have to do is crop.

oh and getting back to your main point about the D3 shooting cropped if you want, no, its not the same as having FF and cropped bodies, if it was, you would also get the full 12 whatever mp in cropped mode as well. I'm not trying to be 'right' here, I don't care, I'm just explaining.

After using both the 5DII and the 7D at a wedding over the weekend, I think I'll be keeping the 7D and replacing the 5DII with the new one. Can't wait for 19 AF points on a 5D! Hopefully it will let you assign button functions as well.

Canon is supposed to be making a 11mm high end prime for the crops. That should be interesting.

At least it's an option, You can do FF, 1.5, 1.2 and 5x4 for SOCC.

you say the D3 has a crop mode, but you do your crops in post. then you say the crops blow up nicely (when printed, I think you mean) and that you are tired of the mp thing. make up your mind.

New Cameras in August
We will be seeing new PowerShot cameras announced in August. I am told not to expect anything revolutionary in the line. Merely minor refreshes.

The most notable camera updates will be to the G12, S95 and SX30 IS.

I’m told a small megapixel bump to the G12 & S95 and 1080p video options. The SX30 IS replacement may move to the same type of image sensor as the aforementioned cameras.

Any rumor about CMOS based PowerShot’s have died off. There’s nothing in regards to a larger sensor PowerShot either.

All of this will heat up more over the next 60 days or so.

I know you could crop just the same....but I'd LOVE to have the option/'convenience' to shoot 5x4.

Was shooting a little short last night with a 7D and they wanted to use a T2i as a 2nd camera...

That tiny little POS has such a horrible unintuitive interface...that even once I figured out how to do what I needed...I still wouldnt use it.

How can Canon make such an entry level camera such a turd...where a 7D is simple as pie?

$900 more for the 7D has gotta get you something... I mean if the T2i was similar to the 7D, not as many people would be interested in the 7D. kinda obvious, imo.

Yes....but youd think for entry level cameras...the maker would want something that is intuitive to use, seeing as most buyers of that make will not be as familiar with the workings of a camera as most amateurs and pros.

My inlaws got one of those and brought it on their last visit. I'm with you...I couldn't stand it. I couldn't figure out what was where and to top it off they had some rubber boot on the camera body that was hiding some of the buttons.

Maybe some 7D owners would want to offload their bodies for a 5D3.
Too bad I'm poor now
