wasnt even expecting this!

London, UK, 7th February 2011 – Canon today announces the development of a telephoto zoom lens featuring an integrated focal length extender – the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x. The lens will be displayed for the first time during CP+, held in Yokohama, Japan.

Designed for Canon’s leading range of EOS Digital SLR cameras, the new lens will be an ideal addition for sports and wildlife photographers, offering exceptional flexibility with a built-in 1.4x extender that creates an increased focal range of 280 – 560mm.

Perfect for photographers who require high performance, fast aperture and a flexible telephoto range, the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4× will enable photographers to shoot a greater breadth of subjects using a single lens, delivering the best possible image quality at all focal lengths.

Developed as a new addition to Canon’s acclaimed L-series of professional lenses, the new lens will offer an unsurpassed combination of versatility, first-class optical performance and an enhanced weather-proof construction. The model will be released as part of Canon’s continued development of its EF lens line-up, offering enhanced performance and improved functions that cater for the needs of photographers from beginners through to professionals.

The EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM EXTENDER 1.4x is scheduled for launch during 2011.

London, UK, 7th February 2011 – Canon today launches two new super-telephoto lenses for its leading EOS Digital SLR (DSLR) range – the EF 500mm F/4L IS II USM and the EF 600mm F/4L IS II USM. Designed to meet the needs of the most demanding sports and wildlife photographers, both lenses offer breakthrough performance, delivering consistently high-quality images and incredible mobility. The launch of the models follows a development announcement in August 2010, and the display of prototypes at Photokina 2010 in Cologne, Germany.

Launching into Canon’s professional L-series, the models replace the widely-respected EF 500mm F/4L IS USM and EF 600mm F/4L IS USM, and are designed to achieve unparalleled levels of image quality. Each includes the highest-quality optics and the latest Canon Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, while magnesium alloy constructions with titanium components make each lens significantly lighter and even more durable. Launching as the lightest lens in its class*1, the EF 600mm F/4L IS II USM benefits from an exceptional 27% reduction (1.4kg) in weight compared to its predecessor, while the EF 500mm F/4L IS II USM offers an impressive reduction of 17% (680g).

New levels of performance

Both lenses feature completely redesigned optics, with 16 elements in 12 groups. Canon has over 40 years of experience in the manufacturing of fluorite lens elements, and has utilised two high performance fluorite elements in these lenses– delivering high resolution, high contrast shots rich in detail across the frame.

Both lens’ optical elements feature Canon’s Super Spectra Coatings and a SubWavelength Structure Coating (SWC), optimised to effectively reduce ghosting and flare. A water-repellent fluorine coating is also used on the surface of the front and rear elements, repelling dust and dirt for clearer shots, and keeping the front element free of marks by ensuring water droplets run off the lens quickly.

Enhanced IS, precise AF

Both models feature Canon’s latest Image Stabilizer system, offering outstanding image quality during handheld shooting and allowing users to shoot at speeds up to four times slower than normally required. IS Mode 2 features new algorithms to improve performance when panning, and the new IS Mode 3 is also included, assisting users when switching between subjects by activating the IS unit only during exposure.

Both lenses offer a constant f/4 aperture, allowing photographers to achieve excellent image quality in low light and capture clear, sharp shots of fast-moving subjects. The wide aperture also allows users to creatively isolate their subjects from the background, with a nine-blade circular iris creating beautiful background blur that instantly adds atmosphere to an image.

Rapid, quiet Auto Focus (AF) is provided by a ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM). Photographers can also utilise full-time manual focusing functionality, which enables the fine-tuning of focus even when the AF system is activated, providing even greater control over image capture. Power Focus mode also assists users during video shooting, allowing the photographer to smoothly adjust focus during filming by twisting the focus recall ring.

Premium L-series design

Both lenses have been designed as part of Canon’s renowned elite L-series, combining exceptional-quality optics with stylish designs. Both also feature a revised layout, with carefully-positioned controls that improve everyday operation. The AF stop buttons are now location-adjustable, improving ergonomics by allowing users to custom-select the position of the lens grip where the AF stop buttons are located.

Mechanical improvements include optional long or short foot tripod mounts suitable for monopods or tripods. An improved tripod collar rotational mechanism provides a smoother movement when turning the lens from portrait to landscape orientation, and a Kensington-type wire security lock has also been included, keeping the lenses secure during location-based shoots. The robust design is also weatherproof, making both lenses suitable for use in extreme conditions when paired with a weatherproof EOS body.

Canon EOS 600D/T3i Announced
London, UK, 7th February 2011 – Canon today announces the launch of the EOS 600D – a compact, lightweight Digital SLR (DSLR) that makes capturing exciting, fun and creative images easier than ever. The perfect choice for aspiring photographers looking for a combination of outstanding image quality and ease-of-use, the EOS 600D sits at the top of Canon’s entry-level EOS line-up, above the existing EOS 550D and the new EOS 1100D.

Capturing stunning images and Full HD video has never been easier, thanks to a range of automatic shooting modes that beginners can use to instantly express their creativity. A Feature Guide has been added to the user interface to help you learn about the camera as you use it, helping to develop your photography skills. With an unrivalled range of EF lenses, Speedlites and other accessories to enhance your shooting, the EOS system holds the key to the perfect shot – wherever your journey takes you, and whatever the scene before you.

First-class image quality

The EOS 600D provides all the tools to capture beautiful stills and HD movies. Amazing picture detail is provided by a high-resolution 18 Megapixel (MP) APS-C CMOS sensor, which combines with 14-bit DIGIC 4 processing so you can capture the wonder of a beautiful blue sky and enjoy exceptionally smooth gradients between colours. The camera’s low light shooting capability enables you to achieve clear, natural images in darker conditions, with an ISO range of 100-6400 that can be further expanded to 12800.

Great for shooting pets, children or wildlife, the EOS 600D allows high-speed shooting at 3.7 frames per second (fps), enabling you to capture fast-moving action. Each shot will be captured in sharp detail thanks to the 9-point Auto Focus system, which can track subjects using the auto focus points across the frame. Even more accurate focusing is providing by an extra-sensitive central AF Sensor, while the iFCL Metering system from the semi-professional EOS 7D features a 63-zone Dual-layer metering sensor, helping you to ensure your shot is correctly exposed, even in difficult lighting conditions.

Easy shooting, amazing results

New fully-automatic Scene Intelligent Auto mode makes it easy for you to capture outstanding quality shots with almost no effort. Allowing you to focus exclusively on framing your picture, Scene Intelligent Auto analyses the scene for you and automatically picks the best settings to capture it. Your images will look better than ever thanks to a new ‘Auto’ Picture Style, which automatically makes fine adjustments to colours while you focus on capturing the scene you want.

The EOS 600D also makes it easy for you to instantly add creativity to your pictures. Change the atmosphere of a scene with Basic+, which allows you to pick the mood you want to achieve from one of eight options, including ‘Warm’, ‘Cool’ or ‘Intense’. Whether you’re shooting landscapes, portraits, or close-up macro shots, Basic+ makes it easy to capture the perfect image.

Simple, flexible, artistic

Ideal for beginners, a Feature Guide has been added to the EOS 600D’s menu system, offering a brief description of each key setting and its effect, helping you learn more about the camera as you use it.

You can also shoot overhead, at ground level or around corners with the EOS 600D’s

Vari-angle 7.7cm 3:2 ratio ClearView LCD. Rich on-screen detail is provided in 1.04 million-dot resolution, and the side-mounted hinge allows users to comfortably and creatively shoot from a range of unusual angles, or when using a tripod. A smudge-resistant fluorine coating and three anti-reflection coatings also ensure you can see the LCD in clear detail, wherever you are.

Allowing you to apply your own stamp to your shots, the EOS 600D is perfect for experimenting with different Creative Filters. Fish-eye-Effect creates a barrel-shaped distortion similar to a fish-eye lens, and you can instantly turn a scene into a small-scale model with Miniature Effect. Toy Camera Effect, Grainy B/W and Soft Focus offer additional options, allowing you to experiment with your images in a number of different ways.

Capture stunning detail with EOS movie

Capture your memories in superb clarity with Full HD (1080p) movie mode, while a dedicated movie shooting mode means you can switch between stills and HD video instantly. You can also reach distant subjects using new Movie Digital Zoom function, which crops the centre of the sensor from 3x to 10x while still maintaining Full HD quality – great for capturing wildlife on a safari holiday.

Enabling you to capture more engaging videos, Video Snapshot mode shoots video in two, four, or eight second segments, creating clips that are short, easy to edit and of similar lengths to clips used in most TV programmes. As they are recorded, the clips are saved to a Video Snapshot Album and combined into one movie. A soundtrack can be added by choosing from tracks uploaded to the camera and the result viewed on the camera’s LCD, or on an HDTV via the built-in mini HDMI connection.

The EOS system – unrestricted creativity

As your skills develop, the EOS 600D grows with you. As part of Canon’s EOS range, the camera is compatible with the unrivalled selection of EF lenses and a range of accessories, so you can add to your kitbag as your ability and style develops. Over 60 lenses provide you with unlimited creative possibilities: wide-angle lenses capture sweeping landscapes, macro lenses capture the most intricate beauty of the tiniest creatures, and telephoto lenses make distant scenes appear as if they are right in front of you.

Using Canon’s range of Speedlite flashes and the EOS 600D’s Integrated

Speedlite Transmitter, you can also experiment with different lighting techniques, or use your flash off-camera, to give your subject or scene a completely different look and feel. With the Easy Wireless function, the camera will also take care of the complicated settings whilst you focus on framing and lighting your scene as you wish.

Introducing the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II

London, UK, 7th February 2011 – Canon today announces the launch of the new Speedlite 320EX and Speedlite 270EX II – a duo of new additions to its leading EX Speedlite range. Designed for EOS Digital SLR (DSLR) owners who want to use creative lighting techniques to make their photography more engaging, each new model is ideal for experimenting with different lighting set-ups with off-camera support, allowing users to alter subject lighting and add ambiance to a scene.

Ideal for users of the newly-launched EOS 600D and EOS 1100D DSLRs, the Speedlite 270EX II replaces the Speedlite 270EX at the entry level of Canon’s Speedlite range, whilst the Speedlite 320EX is a compact, powerful and versatile flash for users of mid-level cameras who want to take more control over lighting. Both new models are compatible with Canon’s distance-linked E-TTL II system, and can be used on-camera or as slave units controlled by a separate master unit or the Integrated Speedlite Transmitter of the EOS 600D, EOS 60D and EOS 7D. Ideal for more creative home studio shooting or general use, each model adds a new dimension to portraits or still life shots.

The Speedlite 270EX II – Compact, pocketable light

Perfect for users who want a small, pocketable flash unit, the Speedlite 270EX II is a compact, high-power flash with a guide number of 27 (m/ISO 100) and fast, silent recycling between shots. Flash settings can be manually controlled through the camera menu system, and photographers can experiment with the manual bounce flash head for different effects, as well as the zoom head to ensure efficient light distribution across the scene.

Providing the freedom for photographers to light a scene in a range of different ways, the Speedlite 270EX II launches with additional slave capability, allowing for creative, off-camera use. A new Remote Release function also wirelessly triggers the shutter release on a compatible EOS DSLR, allowing users to set up lighting without having to make repeat trips to the camera. Photographers can frame their shot, wirelessly trigger the two-second shutter release timer on the camera body, and then reposition the flash anywhere in the scene – capturing the image as the camera then fires both the flash and shutter release.

The Speedlite 320EX – versatile and powerful performance

Offering additional functionality, the new Speedlite 320EX is the ideal flash unit for amateurs and professionals looking for a secondary flash, featuring the ability to light a scene when recording movies. An LED flash offers a guide number of 32 (m/ISO 100), as well as the ability to change the flash coverage from 24mm to 50mm by manually extending or retracting the flash head. The flash head can also be rotated for more flexible bounce flash shooting, creating a wider variety of lighting effects.

The Speedlite 320EX’s slave utility allows it to be controlled by a master unit via one of four selectable channels. Flash group A, B or C can also be selected, controlling the relative power of the flash and the resulting lighting effect. The Speedlite 320EX also features the Remote Release functionality allowing users to trigger their camera from the flash.

In a first for Canon Speedlite, the Speedlite 320EX features a Video Light function, complementing bodies with EOS Movie by enabling users to illuminate low light scenes continuously when capturing HD video. When using the Speedlite 320EX in combination with the new EOS 1100D or EOS 600D, Auto Light mode ensures that the LED light automatically turns on or off according to the ambient light of the scene when in Movie mode.

Man im upset with my G11. The lens is already scratched and from googling, it seems i am not alone on this. The auto cover I guess is so close to the lens that it can scratch it easily when closing.

Im out of warranty too.

Thats all, just wanted to vent.

Canon Updates the EOS-1D MK IV and EOS 5D MK II

Two new firmware updates were launched by Canon this month - one for the EOS-1D MK IV and the other for the EOS 5D MK II. Both firmware updates are available directly from Canon.

Update 1.1.0 to the EOS 1D MK IV increases read and write speeds when using UDMA 7 compatible cards - something well worth updating for. It also fixes a strange occurrence that shuts down movie shooting after a certain sequence of events.

The EOS 5D MK II's 2.0.9 software receives a similar update for UDMA 7 CF cards. However, Canon also fixed an issue that sometimes occurs with the IS Start custom function. When set to AF Stop on lenses without an AF Stop button, it was causing issues.

Both models also received some updates to the menu text when set to Spanish, Thai, Portuguese, or Arabic. Click the following links below to head on over to Canon's USA Support website to download these updates for your camera(s).

Combining the latest imaging technologies with Canon's premium IXUS styling, the IXUS 1100 HS is one of the most advanced IXUS models to date – allowing photographers of all levels to capture breath-taking stills and Full HD movies. A huge 8.0 cm (3.2") touchscreen provides exceptional fingertip control, making it easy to frame and play back images and movies, whilst Full HD video with high quality stereo sound makes the camera the ideal companion on holidays and nights out.

Capture the perfect shot with ease
Ensuring even the most distant subject can be viewed with fantastic clarity, the 12x zoom lens features Canon's precision optics and a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer - providing outstanding image quality and detail at all focal lengths, from the wide-angle to the extreme telephoto. The new Intelligent IS system also offers greater detail in stills and movies, automatically identifying the shooting situation and selecting the most appropriate image stabilization from seven possible modes2. For example, the camera will automatically switch to Macro IS with Hybrid IS technology when capturing a close up shot of a flower, or to Powered IS to improve movie stability when filming far subjects with the long zoom.

The IXUS 1100 HS helps you to take the perfect picture anytime, anywhere, making it easier than ever to capture every moment with enviable results. The inclusion of Canon's HS System – a combination of a 12.1 Megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor and proprietary DIGIC 4 image processing – helps to capture the natural ambiance of a scene, producing crisp, low-noise images without having to use the flash or a tripod. Enhanced Smart Auto mode also removes much of the uncertainty from recording special moments, using Advanced Subject Detection to detect up to 32 different scenes3 and adjust the camera settings accordingly to ensure every subject is well-exposed and in-focus.

The high-sensitivity CMOS sensor also enables a series of high-speed shooting functions. Handheld Night Scene combines the image data from a sequence of high- speed shots into a single image for the best possible exposure with the least amount of blur, whilst Best Image Selection records the best shot from a high-speed sequence of five images. Capture split-second action with High-speed Burst mode, which records 3.0MP resolution images at 7.8 shots/sec. or shoot continuously at full resolution up to 3.3 shots/sec. For more fun with video, Super Slow Motion Movie mode slows down fast-moving subjects, shooting VGA resolution video at 120fps (QVGA resolution at 240fps) and playing it back at a fraction of the real speed4 – perfect for analysing a golf swing or catching the dramatic conclusion to a 100m sprint.

Full HD movies – sit in the director's chair
The IXUS 1100 HS has everything you need to record great movies of friends and family. With Full HD (1080p) resolution, optical zoom and high-quality stereo sound, you can easily switch between still images and movies with one sleek, pocketable camera. With Movie Digest mode, you can even create a VGA-quality film telling the story behind the images you've shot that day. It automatically records the four seconds preceding every still image captured and merges the clips into one show reel which can then be used as bonus footage or shared online.

The world at your fingertips
Allowing you to frame and review your stills and movies with crisp detail and fantastic contrast and colour, the IXUS 1100 HS features a vast 8.0 cm (3.2") PureColor II Touch LCD screen with a sharp 460k-dot resolution which fills the rear of the camera. With everything at your fingertips you can control different settings with a swipe of a finger; simply touch to focus on the subject with Touch AF or instantly capture the scene with new Touch Shutter.

Taking advantage of the increased flexibility offered by touchscreen technology, how you use the camera and access the settings that matter most is entirely up to you. Shortcuts to the most common menu settings are pre-set to the interface but can be repositioned and customised according to personal preference – making the touch interface quick and easy to navigate.

Share your creativity
In addition to providing the ultimate stylish high-zoom compact for capturing the scene as you see it, the IXUS 1100 HS also features a number of creative modes to explore for fun and interesting results. These include Miniature Effect, Super Vivid and Poster Effect (which are also available when recording Full HD video) as well as Fish-eye Effect, which distorts the image to offer a unique view on a more traditional scene. With Toy Camera Effect or Monochrome you can achieve high-contrast, colourful shots in the style of early pinhole cameras or more atmospheric black and white, sepia or blue monochromatic tones.

Multi-aspect shooting means you can produce images of different shapes and sizes, from perfectly square, to widescreen 16:9 format. A new Photobook Setup mode helps you to select images for photobooks to keep or give to friends and family, or use the IXUS 1100 HS with associated Canon printers to create highly personal gifts and albums. Alternatively, instantly share your favourite shots and video direct from the camera on HDTVs and monitors through the HDMI port5; sit back and browse through your images using the remote of your HDMI-CEC compatible TV.

In addition, the IXUS 1100 HS will also be compatible with the HF-DC2 – a new high power external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash.

Canon introduces ELPH 310 HS/IXUS 230 HS compact camera
Tuesday, 23 August 2011 08:46 GMT < Previous Next >
Canon has launched the ELPH 310 HS (IXUS 230 HS in Europe), a surprisingly long zoom style compact. The squeezes an 8x zoom into the sort of tiny, colorful body we expect of the ELPH/IXUS series. The extra zoom (out to an impressive 224mm equiv), comes at the expense of the wide-angle capability, with the 230 HS's lens starting at a still fairly handy 28mm equiv, rather than the 24mm equivalent featured on recent comparable models. The lens also features the company's latest 'Intelligent' image stabilization. Beyond that there's a 12.1 back-illuminated CMOS sensor and 3.0" 460k dot LCD. It can also shoot 1080p24 HD video.

Zoom into life – Canon unveils the amazing new IXUS 230 HS

London, UK, 23rd August 2011 – Canon today adds to its premium IXUS series with the launch of the IXUS 230 HS – a striking, super-slim 8x optical zoom camera that fuses leading optical technology with stand-out design. Elegantly-styled in six vibrant colours, the new model packs a powerful Canon lens into a thin metal body with a range of leading features, making it easy for users to capture memories in incredible detail.

The IXUS 230 HS is the latest in the IXUS line to benefit from the HS System, providing premium Canon image quality in all shooting conditions, and especially in low light. Ideal for parties, special occasions or holidays, the camera features a precision 28mm 8x optical zoom lens, and at just 22.1mm thick, is the world's slimmest camera of its type1. It's also among the first to include Canon's new Intelligent IS system, making it easy to capture richly-detailed and shake-free stills, or steady Full HD (1080p) movies.

IXUS style, HS System power
Fusing leading design with outstanding performance, the IXUS 230 HS is powered by Canon's HS System – a unique, optimised combination of a 12.1 Megapixel back- illuminated CMOS sensor and powerful DIGIC 4 processing. Providing superior image clarity, colour and detail, the HS System empowers users to shoot low-noise images in low light without the need for a tripod, or to capture the true ambience of a scene by shooting without using the flash. The HS System makes it easy for users of all levels to capture beautiful images, delivering striking quality with every shot.

Genuine Canon optics – compact precision and flexibility
Developed using decades of optical expertise, the IXUS 230 HS's genuine Canon lens is amazingly compact and versatile. Starting at a 28mm wide-angle and extending to a maximum telephoto focal length of 224mm, the unique lens design allows users to capture everything from sweeping landscapes to larger group shots, or zoom in to capture more distant subjects. Offering a high zoom with true portability, this camera delivers outstanding power in a body that can comfortably slip into any pocket.

Intelligent IS – more detail, less blur
The IXUS 230 HS is among the first-ever models to feature Canon's uniquely-powerful Intelligent IS system, which utilises Canon's highly-effective 3.5-stop optical Image Stabilizer to counter camera shake when shooting stills and Full HD movies.

Providing seven types of stabilisation2, Intelligent IS automatically identifies the shooting conditions and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer to prevent camera shake most effectively. Macro IS corrects exaggerated shift shake which occurs during close-up macro photography, while Powered IS works during movie shooting to counteract the exaggerated motion which occurs when shooting distant subjects using the zoom. In combination with Smart Auto, Intelligent IS works automatically so users can capture images that are rich in detail with minimal blur, without worrying about settings.

Shoot Full HD movies in an instant
The new model also captures stunning Full HD video at 24 frames per second (fps) with stereo sound. A dedicated Movie Record Button makes it easy to record instantly, ensuring no moment is ever missed. The 8x optical zoom can be used during video capture, and Intelligent IS includes Dynamic IS mode to counteract camera shake when recording whilst moving. An HDMI-CEC port makes it easy to share videos, allowing users to play images back on HDMI-compatible HD TVs and control playback using the TV remote.

A large, premium-quality 7.5cm (3.0") PureColor LCD II G display is perfect for image framing and playback, with a 460k-dot resolution that offers fine detail, high contrast and excellent colour reproduction. A tempered glass outer layer provides a wide viewing angle and resistance to scratches, and Hints & Tips throughout the user interface make operation easy, helping users to learn about their camera as they go.

Outstanding images made easy
Offering point-and-shoot ease, the IXUS 230 HS also features Canon's comprehensive Smart Auto mode. Designed to make photography easy, Smart Auto intelligently detects the shooting scene, before applying the optimal settings to achieve the best result. Truly automatic and refreshingly easy to use, Smart Auto ensures the user can focus exclusively on framing the shot – the camera takes care of everything else.

Smart Auto includes Face Detection Technology and Advanced Subject Detection Technology, locking onto human faces, pets, or other objects, such as cars, within a scene. Once identified, Servo AF/AE keeps subjects in focus and well-exposed, right up until the moment the image is captured. i-Contrast and Smart Flash Exposure, also included within Smart Auto, ensure subjects always look their best – reducing the appearance of harsh shadows and over-exposed highlights in the final shot.

High speed, limitless creativity
The IXUS 230 HS offers a number of high-speed shooting features for capturing fast- moving action. High-speed Burst is ideal for everything from sports to parties, capturing up to 8.7 shots/sec. at 3.0MP resolution, while full resolution 12.1MP images can be continuously captured at 3.5 shots/sec., right up to card capacity. For capturing the drama of high-speed action, Super Slow Motion Movie mode records images at 240fps (QVGA quality) or 120fps (VGA quality) and plays back at a fraction of real speed3.

To help users get the best results, Best Image Selection captures a high-speed sequence of shots and records the best image, and Handheld Night Scene captures a sequence of pictures and combines image data to produce one optimally exposed image with the minimum of blur. Creative shooting modes add a range of different perspectives to a scene, including Miniature Effect, Fish-eye Effect, Super Vivid and Poster Effect, Toy Camera Effect and Monochrome Effect. Miniature Effect also extends to movies, recording 1.5, 3 or 6 fps to create a time-lapse video with a visual impression of a small- scale model.

Movie Digest mode also provides an interesting way to capture the story behind the pictures – automatically recording the four seconds prior to a shot being taken, before combining each day's clips into a single movie.

Additionally, the IXUS 230 HS will also be compatible with the HF-DC2 – a new external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash.

Canon unleashes the PowerShot SX150 IS

London, UK, 23rd August 2011 – Canon today announces the launch of the PowerShot SX150 IS – a high resolution, high-zoom digital camera, packed with fun features that make it easy to capture memorable moments in stills and HD movies. With an impressive 12x optical zoom and sharp 14.1 Megapixel resolution, the PowerShot SX150 IS allows all members of the family to improve their photography skills, or simply let the camera do the work, delivering high quality point-and-shoot photos

Boasting a compact, ergonomic design available in red, black and silver, the PowerShot SX150 IS offers an impressive range of features. Whether on holiday, weekends away or family days out, it's simple to capture treasured memories, providing the ideal option for users looking for outstanding performance, simplicity and value in one package.

Compact flexibility
The PowerShot SX150 IS's body houses an impressive 12x optical zoom lens that provides the ability to shoot 28mm wide-angle group shots and landscapes, as well as long-distance close-ups, thanks to its impressive 336mm telephoto reach. Even when shooting handheld, capturing distant subjects and low light scenes in crisp detail is easier than ever, with a 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer (IS) and brand new Intelligent IS technology included to counteract the image blur that results from camera shake.

Whether panning to capture a 100m sprint at a school sports day, or shooting a vibrant flower close-up, Intelligent IS will help ensure images and videos are crystal clear. Completely automatic, Intelligent IS instantly identifies the shooting situation and selects the most appropriate form of image stabilisation from seven possible settings1. For example, Powered IS – a feature derived from Canon's LEGRIA camcorder range – ensures that even when shooting a long-distance subject, movies are captured in spectacular detail with minimal blur.

Fine detail with every shot
Featuring a range of Canon's advanced imaging technologies, the PowerShot SX150 IS lets you capture still images in mesmerising quality. Shots are striking and detailed, with the 14.1 Megapixel resolution capturing the detail required to print in large poster-size formats, or crop the image for a more eye-catching composition. Canon's DIGIC 4 image processor also ensures images are captured quickly, with excellent colour reproduction and quality, as well as providing outstanding responsiveness in every day operation.

Easy functionality and creativity for all the family
The PowerShot SX150 IS helps to make sure every photo and movie looks stunning, whether you're capturing landscapes, parties, fireworks or close-up abstract scenes. Smart Auto, with Face Detection Technology and the latest Advanced Subject Detection technology, identifies the shooting scene from 32 variables2 and automatically adjusts the camera's settings, helping you capture pictures that you'll want to share with friends and family.

Servo AF/AE technology keeps people, pets and other objects, such as cars, in focus and well-exposed right up until the shutter release is fully pressed and the image is captured. And if you simply want to point-and-shoot, Easy Mode will automatically take control of all camera settings, so even users who are completely new to photography can get the picture they want.

Stills and video clips can be instantly reviewed on a large 7.5cm (3.0'') LCD screen, offering crisp playback immediately after capture. Helpful on-screen Hints & Tips throughout the menu system also make it easy to learn more about different camera settings and improve your photography skills every time you use the camera.

Shoot creatively – in stills or HD movies
In addition to high-resolution still images, the PowerShot SX150 IS allows you to capture unforgettable moments in 720p high definition (HD) quality with stereo sound. A dedicated Movie Record Button lets you instantly switch from stills to HD movies, ensuring that you don't lose vital time navigating through menus and settings. You can also shoot videos in Apple's iFrame format, which requires no transcoding before being imported into Apple video editing software, making it faster and simpler to transfer and edit footage.

Alternatively, you can explore your creativity with an extensive range of innovative Creative Filters that can be instantly applied to bring still photos and movies to life, including Fish-eye Effect, Super Vivid and Poster Effect. Toy Camera Effect gives the impression of photos taken using a pin-hole camera, Monochrome lets you shoot in black and white, sepia or blue monochrome, and with Miniature Effect your images take on the appearance of small-scale models. Miniature Effect also extends to video mode, allowing you to experiment with different effects across stills and HD movies.

Capturing anything from self-portraits to those all-important family moments at Christmas or on holiday is stress-free thanks to Smart Shutter. You can activate the shutter with a simple wink or smile, while FaceSelf-Timer triggers the shutter release when a new face enters the frame – avoiding the traditional sprint from behind the camera, and allowing the photographer to be part of the photo.

In addition, the PowerShot SX150 IS will be compatible with the HF-DC2 – a new high- power external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash.

Share your stories
With all these features you'll no doubt have a collection of photos you'll want to share. Canon has announced the PowerShot S100 - the latest in its line of small enthusiast compacts. The S100 features a broader, 5x lens range (24-120mm equiv.), the company's latest image stabilization and built-in GPS. The interesting specification, from our perspective, is the 12MP CMOS sensor. It's the company's second compact camera sensor, following the slightly disappointing example in 2008's PowerShot SX1. As with the S95, the sensor remains of the larger 1/1.7" type used in high-end compacts.

Canon unveils the PowerShot S100 – expert control, seriously compact

London, UK, 15th September 2011 – Canon today announces the launch of the new PowerShot S100 – a powerful, versatile and highly compact camera offering photographers extensive control and leading image quality. The most advanced PowerShot S-series model to date, the PowerShot S100 surpasses the high standards set by its acclaimed predecessor, featuring a new f/2.0 Canon lens and an enhanced HS System, which combines an elite high-sensitivity sensor with the very latest in Canon processing technology – DIGIC 5.

Packed with upgrades, the PowerShot S100 marks a true step forward for the PowerShot S-series. Its 24mm ultra-wide angle, 5.0x optical zoom genuine Canon lens provides greater power and flexibility, and combines with Canon's Intelligent Image Stabilizer (IS) system to deliver crisp, clear images in stills and movies. GPS functionality records the time and location of every shot, Full HD movie recording captures stunning video, and the powerful DIGIC 5 processor offers fast shooting speeds and even better image quality in all conditions. All of these new features also come in a super-slim body measuring just 26.7mm front-to-back, available in matte black and titanium silver variants.

The HS System with DIGIC 5 – new levels of power

The PowerShot S100 features the most powerful implementation of the HS System yet. Building on the PowerShot S-series' reputation for providing high-quality, low noise images in low light, the enhanced HS System optimally combines DIGIC 5 processing with a high-sensitivity 12.1 Megapixel 1/1.7-type CMOS developed using Canon EOS sensor know-how – providing an even more powerful basis for low light photography. Supporting a maximum ISO of 6400 at full resolution, the camera fully-utilises the high performance of the CMOS sensor and the power of DIGIC 5 to reduce image noise – offering the reassurance of excellent image quality in all conditions.

Designed to achieve new and advanced levels of image quality, DIGIC 5 analyses four times more image information to create each pixel, recording more detail and colour from a scene than ever before. Processing speed is also six times faster compared to the previous processor, efficiently managing the increase in scene information and simultaneously reducing the appearance of image noise by up to 75%1.

Genuine Canon lens with Intelligent Image Stabilizer

The PowerShot S100 features a new, high performance lens developed and manufactured using the same methods and expertise as Canon's leading EF lenses. A benchmark in Canon optical technology, the lens supports 24mm ultra-wide angle coverage for shooting horizons and landscapes, and an extended 5.0x optical zoom for zooming into distant scenes or subjects – all while offering a bright f/2.0 maximum aperture, and a light and compact design.

Intelligent IS utilises Canon's highly-effective 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer to counter camera shake in stills and Full HD movies. Providing seven modes of stabilisation2, Intelligent IS automatically identifies the scene and adapts the optical Image Stabilizer settings for optimal compensation. Panning IS is ideal for following racetrack action, ensuring the IS system only corrects the axis vertical to the direction of movement, while Macro IS features Hybrid IS technology for shooting clear close-ups. Powered IS uses Canon camcorder technology to film distant subjects when using the zoom, while Tripod mode switches off IS when the camera is on a stable surface or attached to a tripod.

Enhanced control

The PowerShot S100 offers full manual control over shooting settings and modes. Designed to fit seamlessly into a photographer's existing workflow, it supports RAW format shooting and offers compatibility with Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software as standard, providing a perfect second camera for DSLR users.

The popular Lens Control Ring, synonymous with the modern PowerShot S-series, also provides a tactile way to control picture settings such as focus and exposure. Users can assign the Lens Control Ring to a number of different image parameters, including shutter speed, ISO sensitivity and aperture, allowing them to fine tune their exposure in 1/3-stop increments. The 'Ring Function' button and rear Multi-Control Dial can also be custom-assigned to control other pre-selected functions, providing complete flexibility to serve different user styles.

High-speed and complete ease-of-use

Using the power of the DIGIC 5, the PowerShot S100 is ideal for capturing fast-moving action. High-speed Burst HQ is perfect for everything from sports to parties, capturing a rapid sequence of eight full resolution shots at up to 9.6 shots/sec. For recording the drama of high-speed action, Super Slow Motion Movie mode also records videos at 240 fps (QVGA quality) or 120 fps (VGA quality).

For easy shooting in a range of situations, Canon's Smart Auto mode ensures great results by selecting the optimum settings for a scene from 32 variables. New Multi-area White Balance also makes images look more natural by detecting scenes with two different light sources and applying area-specific white balance correction. For instance, when shooting a portrait with flash under tungsten lighting, the camera will simultaneously apply tungsten white balance to the background and flash white balance to a person's face, ensuring both the subject and background look natural.

A wealth of additional features

Ideal for users who want to record the location of every shot, the PowerShot S100's integrated GPS unit records where and when images are taken, so users can keep an accurate record of the place and time their pictures are taken. Additionally, the GPS Logger facility records a user's journey, allowing them to review their travels by using the supplied Map Utility software which integrates with Google Maps3.

Stunning Full HD (1080p) video is also captured at 24 frames per second with stereo sound. The 5.0x optical zoom can be used during video capture, while Dynamic IS and Powered IS mode within Intelligent IS counteract camera shake when recording whilst moving, or when using the zoom. An HDMI-CEC port makes it easy to share videos, allowing users to play images back on compatible HDTVs using the TV remote.

A large, premium-quality 7.5 cm (3.0") PureColor II G LCD display is perfect for framing and playback, with a fine 461k dot resolution that offers high contrast and excellent colour reproduction. A tempered glass outer layer provides a wide viewing angle and resistance to scratches, and new grips on both the front and back of the camera body offer improved handling, making this the ideal pocket camera for enthusiasts.

Expand your possibilities

The PowerShot S100 is instantly compatible with a range of Canon accessories. The new HF-DC2 is an external flash unit that can be used to supplement the on-board flash, allowing users to capture a broader range of subjects. Users can also explore the world of underwater photography with the new optional Waterproof Case WP-DC43, which provides water resistance to depths of 40 metres and protects the camera from dust, dirt and damage – making it perfect for snorkelling or diving on holiday.

Canon 1D X – Official

Monday, 17 October, 2011 14:00 0 Comments

As always the rumours site got there first. CanonRumors has a leaked press release regarding the new Canon 1D X. It represents the amalgamation of the 1DS and 1D for the first time, and has a full frame sensor.
Canon.com has now leaked a mention of the new camera in this press release about celebrating a landmark 50 million EOS SLR cameras in their history.
“This lineup has further expanded with the addition of the new high-performance EOS-1D X, Canon’s new flagship digital SLR camera, scheduled to go on sale in late March 2012.”
Low light performance is potentially out of this world, with only 18MP on a new sensor, and full frame at that. The new Dual DIGIC 5+ image processor is 17x faster than Dual DIGIC 4 which is very good news for video. The press release states moire and aliasing are fixed:
Featuring advanced video-capture capabilities, the Canon EOS-1D X’s upgraded imaging system and Dual DIGIC 5+ deliver greatly enhanced movie quality. In particular, the camera minimizes the occurrence of color artifacts and moiré, and enables the shooting of low-noise video even in dark conditions.
The Canon EOS-1D X will be available in Japan from late March 2012 at an open price. Canon has set initial production at 7,000 units per month.
The camera even has a 14fps continuous burst mode outputting 18MP JPEGs with an electronic shutter (hardly any rolling shutter noticeable due to the speed of the sensor). That bodes very well for video quality too.
More news as it comes…

TOKYO, October 18, 2011—Canon Inc. and Canon Marketing Japan Inc. today announced the introduction in Japan of the new EOS-1D X digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera offering a high level of performance to satisfy the demands of professionals in such fields as sports photography, photojournalism and studio photography.

To date, Canon has developed its top-of-the-line digital SLR cameras through the 1Ds series, which delivers exceptionally high image quality, and the 1D series, which achieves superlative high-speed performance. Integrating the strengths of these two series, Canon’s new professional flagship model, the EOS-1D X, brings together the highest levels of image quality and speed performance.

The new Canon EOS-1D X incorporates a newly developed approximately 18.1-megapixel 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor which, in addition to achieving an optimal sensor size and pixel count balance, effectively makes use of Canon’s proprietary semiconductor technologies to ensure low-noise performance. Featuring Dual DIGIC 5+, which comprises two new high-performance DIGIC 5+ image processors—each realizing approximately 17 times the processing power of DIGIC 4—the camera delivers exemplary image quality and speed performance, in addition to data processing power that has been greatly enhanced compared with the EOS-1D Mark IV, released in December 2009. Compared with the EOS-1D Mark IV’s sensitivity range of ISO100–12800, the EOS-1D X offers a range that has been expanded by two steps, to 100–51200,* for outstanding imaging results with reduced noise, even when shooting indoors and other dimly lit settings.

Combining a 100,000-pixel RGB metering sensor and DIGIC 4 processor, the Canon EOS-1D X’s new AE system, the EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis) System, is capable of determining not only brightness levels, but also a subject’s face and target color, making possible high-precision exposure control. The newly developed AF system incorporates an AF sensor with a total of 61 autofocus points for improved high-precision subject capture. The sensor includes 21 f/5.6 cross-type sensors, 20 f/4.0 cross-type sensors, and 5 f/2.8 dual cross-type sensors. Equipped with 20 f/4.0 AF points, the new camera offers the same level of precision as the EOS-1D Mark IV at f/2.8. Additionally, working in tandem with the new AE system, the camera’s EOS iTR AF (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition Auto Focus) function is capable of tracking a subject’s face or target color to maintain focus on a moving subject.

The Canon EOS-1D X’s new Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors make possible high-speed continuous shooting of up to approximately 12 frames per second with high-precision AE and AF performance. In the ultra-fast continuous shooting mode, the camera realizes a continuous shooting speed of up to approximately 14 frames per second (mirror remains raised during shooting, JPEG images only).

The Canon EOS-1D X delivers high reliability even in harsh shooting conditions. The rugged shutter unit boasts a lifespan of over 400,000 cycles while the camera’s exterior covers and operation panels employ a dust- and moisture-resistant design. Furthermore, the camera features a new dust-removing system incorporating two vibrating elements, a first for the EOS series, improving on the earlier cleaning system.

The new EOS-1D X comes equipped with a Gigabit-Ethernet connection that, when shooting in locations equipped with a wired LAN connection such as large sporting arenas, enables data to be transferred to editing desks quickly and reliably. Inheriting the same basic operating design as previous models, which focused on offering instantaneous operation, such aspects of the new camera as its button and control layout and GUI were reviewed and redesigned, with great attention given to operability when held vertically, during blind-touch operation, and when confirming images.

Canon has set initial production at 7,000 units per month

ISO 200K? Good god.

But... $7K? No way I can justify that.
5K I would have fun thinking about. But 7K? no way.

I don't see anything about video autofocus - perhaps that won't happen.
I read in some article that the reason DSLRs are horrible at video AF is that they don't support the readout speed needed for the AF sensors.

Point and shoots & video cameras do (although in theory that circuitry causes the overall photo quality to suffer in comparison).

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 18, 2011 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, is proud to introduce a completely revolutionized EOS-1D series camera, the Canon EOS-1D X Digital SLR camera.* As the new leader in Canon’s arsenal of professional DSLRs, the EOS-1D X will be a high-speed multimedia juggernaut replacing both the EOS-1Ds Mark III and EOS-1D Mark IV models in Canon’s lineup. Enhancing the revolutionary image quality of the EOS-1Ds and speed capabilities of the EOS-1D series, the EOS-1D X DSLR features an 18-megapixel full-frame Canon CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 5+ Imaging Processors, 14-bit A/D data conversion and capable of shooting an incredible 12 frames-per-second (fps). Canon’s EOS DSLR cameras and accessories have a long-standing legacy of providing high-quality results to professionals in a wide range of markets, including sports, nature, cinematography, wedding and commercial studios. The addition of this new model will help take this tradition to a whole new level.

The EOS-1D X announcement comes on the heels of Canon’s recent manufacturing milestone with the production of the Company’s 50-millionth EOS-series SLR camera in September of 2011. Furthermore, Canon will achieve yet another milestone at the end of this month producing the 70-millionth EF lens.

“The EOS-1D X represents the re-invention of the EOS-1Ds and EOS-1D series, combining new proprietary Canon technologies with the culmination of customer feedback and requests from the field. We are proud to introduce this camera to the worldwide community of professional photographers and cinematographers with the features and capabilities they need to capture the great moments that display their talent,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A.

Canon EOS-1D X Front
The Camera With Three Brains

The EOS-1D X features three DIGIC processors, including Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors capable of delivering approximately 17 times more processing speed than DIGIC 4, and a dedicated DIGIC 4 for metering and AF control. In conjunction with the newly developed high-performance 18-megapixel full-frame Canon CMOS image sensor, the Dual DIGIC 5+ processors provide high-speed continuous shooting, lower noise, and a significant increase in data processing speed than previous EOS-1D models. This new level of data processing speed allows the EOS-1D X to perform many functions including chromatic aberration correction for various Canon EF lenses in-camera instead of through post-production software. The DIGIC 4 processor utilizes a new 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor for enhanced exposure accuracy with color and face detection, and works together with the camera’s new EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF.

The EOS-1D X employs a completely new imaging sensor, producing the lowest noise of any EOS digital camera to date for stunning portraiture and studio work. The new 18-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor utilizes large pixels – 1.25 microns larger than those in the EOS-1D Mark IV sensor and .55 microns larger than those in the EOS 5D Mark II sensor – together with gapless microlenses to achieve enhanced light gathering efficiency, higher sensitivity and less noise at the pixel level. The new sensor has improved on the already very high signal-to-noise ratio of sensor output of earlier EOS models for outstanding image quality, even in extremely low light. When combined with the Dual DIGIC 5+ imaging processors the results are stunning. The images produced with the EOS-1D X camera’s new sensor are so clean that files can easily be up-sized if necessary for even the most demanding high-resolution commercial applications. The EOS-1D X will also feature new Ultrasonic Wave Motion Cleaning (UWMC), Canon’s second generation self-cleaning sensor unit, which utilizes carrier wave technology to remove smaller dust particles from the sensor and it includes a new fluorine coating on the infrared absorption glass to help repel dust.

The low-light capability of the EOS-1D X is evident in its incredible ISO range and ability to photograph in extremely low-light conditions. Adjustable from ISO 100 to 51,200 within its standard range, the new model offers a low ISO 50 setting for studio and landscape photography and two high settings of 102,400 at H1 and 204,800 at H2, ideal for law enforcement, government or forensic field applications.

Canon EOS-1D X Top
New 61-Point High Density Reticular AF

The EOS-1D X includes a brand new 61-Point High Density Reticular AF, the most sophisticated DSLR AF system Canon has ever released. The 21 focusing points in the central area are standard precision cross-type and effective with maximum apertures as small as f/5.6, depending on the lens in use. The center five points are also high-precision diagonal cross-type points for maximum apertures as small as f/2.8. All 61 points are sensitive to horizontal contrast with maximum apertures as small as f/5.6 and 20 of the outer focusing points function as cross-type points with maximum apertures as small as f/4.0. Other innovations of the new 61-point High Density Reticular AF include expanded AF coverage area, superior focusing precision and low light sensitivity, and greater low-contrast subject detection capability compared to earlier EOS AF systems. (See image below for AF point configuration)

All AF functions now have their own menu tab for quick and easy access (formerly AF custom functions in previous EOS models). A new AF Configuration Tool allows for customized setting of tracking sensitivity, the acceleration and deceleration of tracking subjects, and AF point auto switching, all of which are easily accessed and adjusted via the new AF menu tab. A built-in Feature Guide advises photographers on which settings to use according to subject matter.

Similar to the AF point selection options offered in the EOS 7D Digital SLR camera, the EOS-1D X offers six AF point selection modes: Spot, Single Point, Single Point with surrounding four points, Single Point with surrounding eight points, Zone selection and Automatic AF point selection. (See image below AF point selection options.)

EOS iTR AF: Intelligent Tracking and Recognition Enhances AF Performance

The Canon EOS-1D X features incredible new EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognition) AF options ideal for wedding and event photography as well as sports and photojournalism. The default AF mode for the EOS-1D X uses phase detection AF information, while a new second option uses Face Detection technology to track recognized faces in addition to color information, ideal when shooting events such as tennis or dancing where facial recognition of the original subject will help keep that person in focus throughout the scene.

Exposure Control

For the first time in a Canon DSLR camera, a DIGIC processor is used exclusively with the metering sensor for fast, accurate exposure control. The Canon DIGIC 4 processor takes advantage of the EOS-1D X’s 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor and utilizes 252 zones for general metering or 35 zones for low-light metering to help ensure accurate evaluative ambient or flash exposure. The new subject recognition capabilities enhance nearly all of the camera’s automatic functions, helping to adjust exposure, autofocus, Auto Lighting Optimizer and Automatic Picture Style to the scene being captured for enhanced image quality.

Multiple Exposure Modes

The EOS-1D X is the first EOS Digital SLR to feature Multiple Exposure capability. The camera can combine up to nine individual images into a single composite image, with no need for post-processing in a computer. Four different compositing methods are provided for maximum creative control, including Additive, Average, Bright and Dark. Compositing results can be viewed in real time on the camera’s LCD monitor, and there is a one-step Undo command that allows photographers to delete an image and try again if desired. The EOS-1D X’s Multiple Exposure mode even allows photographers to specify a previously captured RAW image as the starting point for a new Multiple Exposure composite image.

Canon EOS-1D X Side
Super High Speed Mode

The Canon EOS-1D X camera breaks new ground in the world of digital SLRs, offering a Super High Speed Mode which increases shooting speeds up to 14 fps at full 18-megapixel resolution in JPEG mode[i]. The new camera is also capable of shooting RAW, JPEG, or RAW+JPEG at speeds up to 12 fps in One Shot AF or AI Servo AF for enhanced performance in sports photography and other applications requiring high-speed digital capture. This new level of performance is made possible by the combination of the EOS-1D X’s 16-channel readout CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors, and a completely new reflex mirror mechanism that has been engineered by Canon to combine high-performance with exceptional precision and reliability.

Enhanced EOS HD Video – New Compressions, Longer Recording

Centered around an all-new full-frame CMOS sensor with larger pixels than those found on the EOS 5D Mark II image sensor, the EOS-1D X utilizes new HD video formats to simplify and speed up post-production work. The two new compression formats offered on the EOS-1D X include intraframe (ALL-i ) compression for an editing-friendly format and interframe (IPB) compression for superior data compression, giving professionals the options they need for their ideal workflow. Answering the requests of cinematographers and filmmakers, the EOS-1D X includes two methods of SMPTE-compliant timecode embedding, Rec Run and Free Run, allowing multiple cameras or separate sound recording to be synced together in post production.

Canon’s all new full-frame CMOS sensor ensures that video footage captured on the EOS-1D X will exhibit less moiré than any previous Canon model, resulting in a significant improvement in HD video quality. A desired feature for many documentary filmmakers using Canon DSLRs was to enable recording beyond the four gigabyte (GB) file capacity and the EOS-1D X is the answer. The new camera features automatic splitting of movie files when a single file exceeds 4GB. The new file splitting function allows for continuous video recording up to 29 minutes and 59 seconds across multiple 4GB files; no frames are dropped and the multiple files can be seamlessly connected in post production, providing filmmakers the recording time they want in the same convenient DSLR form factor. The camera records Full HD at 1920 x 1080 in selectable frame rates of 24p (23.976), 25p, or 30p (29.97); and 720p HD or SD video recording at either 50p or 60p (59.94). SD video can be recorded in either NTSC or PAL standards.

The Canon EOS-1D X also includes manual audio level control, adjustable both before and during movie recording, an automatic setting, or it can be turned off entirely. A wind filter is also included. Sound can be recorded either through the internal monaural microphone or via an optional external microphone through the stereo mic input.

Canon EOS-1D X Back
Enhanced Ergonomics & Optimized Design

Photographers familiar with Canon’s EOS 1D-series of cameras will notice the control configuration of the EOS-1D X takes a different approach to button placement. The re-designed exterior and ergonomic button configuration feels comfortable in your right hand, allowing seamless navigation through menu options.

The Live View Button has been conveniently placed near the user’s thumb for one-touch switching between Live View and Viewfinder shooting. The Quick Control Button and menu navigation controls will allow users to change camera settings using only their right hand, for fast, simple one-handed control using their thumb on the scroll wheel. The new multi-controller is positioned by the right hand thumb when the camera is held for vertical shooting and enables the same level of control to camera operators when shooting vertically as they have when shooting horizontally. On the front of the camera are four user assignable function buttons, two for vertical shooting and two for horizontal shooting, allowing customizable button control when shooting in either position. The camera also features a level of weather resistance equivalent to earlier professional models such as the EOS-1D Mark IV.

Canon has answered the request of many professional EOS photographers and incorporated Dual Card Slots into the new EOS-1D X DSLR camera. The dual CF card slots will allow photographers to carry only one memory card format and still achieve instant image back-ups and enhanced storage capacity.

This camera also features a new shutter design with even greater durability and precision. Rated to 400,000 cycles, the new carbon fiber shutter blades are more lightweight and durable, allowing the EOS-1D X to achieve over 100,000 cycles more than the shutter of the EOS-1D Mark IV. A new shutter motion and new motor help further reduce vibration in the camera. The EOS-1D X also features an electronic first curtain, new to the EOS-1D series DSLRs, for minimal in-camera vibration during image capture.

Canon EOS-1D X Dual CF Slots
Connectivity

For professional photographers who prefer a wired workflow and transfer system, Canon has included a built-in LAN connection in the EOS-1D X DSLR. The built-in LAN connection features a gigabit Ethernet Jack capable of 1000BASE-T transmission speeds, offering photographers a stable wired connection for ultra-fast data transmission. If the network were to go down, the camera will attempt to resend images until the files are sent. The EOS-1D X also features a direct image transfer function whereby images can be selected for transfer, and only sent once a LAN or USB connection is established.

Accessories

Designed exclusively for the EOS-1D X, the new Canon WFT-E6A Wireless File Transmitter* features wireless LAN support for 802.11n network transfer rates providing users with increased communication speed when compared to previous models. With this new dust and weather resistant model, professionals can synchronize clocks on multiple cameras and use the unit to support linked shooting when utilizing multiple cameras. In addition, Bluetooth-compatible equipment can be easily linked to the device as well.

The EOS-1D X also offers an optional Canon GP-E1 GPS Receiver*, which can be easily integrated into the camera’s body. Powered by the camera, this GPS receiver provides the same weatherproof resistance as the EOS-1D X, even at the connector. With an electronic compass on-board, the GP-E1 will log movement – latitude, longitude, elevation, and the Universal Time Code – and allow viewing of camera movement on a PC after shooting. The receiver will also record camera direction when shooting, even when shooting vertically.

The D3 + 10% three years later and what's with the name? Just call it a 1D5???

Canon finally learns, it IQ, not MP!!!!

The full-frame 18-megapixel image sensor is a brand new design, with 6.95 micron pixels—1.25 microns larger than the 1DMKIV and 0.55 microns bigger than the 5DMKII's pixels—and the now-standard gapless micro lens architecture.

The only thing I think is cool is the multi-exposure feature...and its a gimmick at best.

The ergonomics still look cluttered. Everything else is yawn to me...I agree with Jup...an enhanced D3 in Canon skin.

boring.

Good lord!.... Maybe not worth the upgrade for the "ALREADY PROS." but hot damn does it look enticing to photographers getting serious about photography without a top end pro camera.
