I didn't read any manual, I just watch videos online of what people do like

Lightroom Clarity
Lightroom Noise
Lightroom Contrast
Lightroom Presets
etc

Whatever I didn't know about Lightroom I try to find a video of it.

Instruction manual for software, it's not the 90's....

If you want a book, I suggest Kelby or Seth Resnick

Thank you Sir!

Mine is on the way. Purchased from B&H it includes a DVD, by Scott Kelby, showing the ins and outs of LR4.

When I ordered it it was $94. Plus I got an additional discount.

Now its $109.00

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc..._Software.html

Amazon has it for $103 but it doesn't seem to include the Kelby DVD.

I'm having trouble with LR4 exporting files. Say I export 40 photos into a folder, 8 of them fail to export. When I close LR and refresh the folder the files will show up but they won't be resized like the others. If I export those files again, the next time 4 of them wont export. And so on and so forth.

This is driving me nuts. Could it have something to do with Windows 8? (which is also driving me nuts)

I read something on line about others having the same issues. One tip was to not have the file open when you export to it. That doesn't seem to matter in my case.

never seen or heard of that before. It could definitely be some kind of software conflict or issue.

that is a big problem, a dealbreaker. I'd have to get that sh*t resolved.

I'm kind of a dolt, because I haven't been shooting in raw.

Is there a noticeable difference in the finished image when you do?

You still convert to jpeg (or tiff) at the end, but you get to post process the entire image data, not just whats left after the jpeg compression. Gives you much more range in what you can adjust about the picture.

Workflow speed in LR got so excruciatingly slow (it was taking 5 seconds to move to the next photo, for instance) that I had to find some ways to speed it up. This link helped me a lot:

Any of them really stand out for you? I'm curious about the renamed of the pref file and creating a new catalog.

Yeah, the renaming of pref file worked the best. According to the article this should be done periodically. Note: after I did that and started LR, I had to manually choose the location of the LR4 catalog. And then it came up no problem.

I also did this hack where you remove unused modules... a while ago. I don't know if this helps anything but it's something else you might want to consider. On it's face, it makes sense.

srika, since you have a bunch of photos, see if this helps you: http://photo.stackexchange.com/quest...itional-harddr

It's regarding RAW Cache Setting from the top answer.

I tried it as well...not seeing anything really noticeable yet. I took screenshots of the preference tabs so I could update the handful of changes I had made.

I'm at just about 50k photos in my catalog, not sure what's a lot for lightroom.

Here are some suggestions from Adobe:

I found the suggested order of operations to be interesting.

Anyone updated to 4.4? It seems faster, I thought it was just in my head but then I read in a forum others claiming the same, just wondering if anyone else here think the same

...well shit, I think the update took up a whole gb, I would hope they did something to improve the speed (even though I didn't really have any complaints about the speed )
