You don't need one, long as you have a shutter release cable. Just put your camera to bulb mode lock your shutter release and just time it with your phone that's all I ever do. I have a timer but I find myself just doing it manually that way.

I don't have a shutter release cable either.

my model Sony doesn't have a compatible one. IIRC the only remotes that work are IR based.

This issue is that the IR sensor is on the front of the camera.

I'm not gonna sit there and press the shutter every 30 seconds for a few hours.

Maybe I'll set the camera to continuous mode and duct tape the shutter down

Doesn't mean you have to be in front of the camera to trigger it

I don't even use mine anymore, but when I did, I just held it out side the frame, worked just fine

Either way I have to actively sit there and tell it to take a picture every 30 seconds.

Meh, bust out a lawn chair, use a stop watch. If you really wanted to you can make it happen rather make up excuses

Buy a new camera body that can do what you want it to do.

Matt, I take it those trails are stacked? Awesome shot, astro is one thing I want to try and get into just to get stunning shots like that.

Single exposure for the star trails then obviously the forground with the school I exposed for separately . But I manipulated the star trails in PS to give the vortex effect.

im not sure how they work, but i dont think they have a lock.

i did download an app for the NEX-6 that was supposed to use the proximity sensor to start and end the shutter in bulb mode, but sadly it only works on the A7/S/R

Wow, you got a lot of trails in there for just one exposure! Nice work.

I haven't posted any work in awhile now and a friend came up to asking help for her clothing line. I do need a boom stick to have a light on the subject's hair but other than that what else do you think needs work? Ive never done product photography, so this is somewhat new to me.

TBH as a product photo I wouldn't have used such a composiiton. Also I'd have cleaned up the background and ironed out the wrinkles in the dress.

Take a look at Lindsay Alder, she's got great advice on stuff like this.

you are so super ghey.

yeah most of her shots don't have composition and no i didn't ISO. I just took this shot for random purposes.

acutally most of them look like this.

I walk pass this building from time to time (or drive by) and never realized until the other day that they added something modern to an old building (here in Vancouver, when a building is considered "historical" they can't tear it down or redevelop unless there's a real good reason). I really like what they did... a mixture of the new and the old
