***General Picture / Photo Gallery Thread (pics you have NOT taken)***
post cool pictures and gallery links in here - pics or sites you stumble upon that you want to share. I don't think we have a thread like this.
These were done with a D70 - check em out:
http://www.pbase.com/daria90/colour_collision_splashes
I think this is my fav but that's not saying much:
http://www.pbase.com/daria90/image/55688254
I don't know if "cool" is the best word - what I mean is, pics that catch your eye and "wow" you and make you feel like sharing em.

I miss my 03 CL-S :(
There are many many fantastic pictures in the "Perpetual Photography Thread" in ArsTechnica. That thread's been closed but there's a follow-on thread called "Son of Perpetual Photography Thread" which is the follow-on.
Just wanted to share those threads since there's so much great stuff there.

Micro Worlds by Andy Ilachinski

This portfolio also appears in the most recent issue of Lenswork magazine (76). I definitely suggest checking the work out in print if you can. As with almost everything B&W, computer screens just don't do justice to the images.
BTW, the same issue of Lenswork also contains the portofolio Energy Plant by Jim Laurence. It is by far some of the coolest HDR work I have ever seen. You can see four or five of the images if you download the pdf "Overview of the Current Issue" from the Lenswork web site.

More photos from the China earthquake - some discretion advised, partly graphic images
http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/200...AKE_index.html
ps. changed thread title, as this doesn't necessarily have to contain "cool" photos - just photos or galleries you come across that you think are worth a look.

Running the Numbers
An American Self-Portrait
Running the Numbers looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics. Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on. My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books. Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 32,000 breast augmentation surgeries in the U.S. every month.
This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. Employing themes such as the near versus the far, and the one versus the many, I hope to raise some questions about the role of the individual in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.
