New California Emissions 2013

http://www.custommagnums.com/forums/...e-sniffer.html

No more tail pipe tests for smog for cars made in and after 2000. Only visual and OBDII tests now I believe. I'm kinda excited about this so I hope now I can just get some DC sports headers rather than buying Comptechs used somewhere

Good news is that smog checks should be cheaper now.

Mopply, you still need to pass the visual inspection of the check. If they pop your hood and see the headers without a CARB number on them, your going to fail.

My friend just got through with a fake C.A.R.B sticker. I was thinking of leaving the stock heat shield on it so you don't actually see the headers. And yeah smog should get cheaper. Almost $80 seems too much. Just another way for california to get our money.

First, you can't fit the heat shields over aftermarket headers.

Second, some smog shops actually run the CARB numbers. They ran the CARB number on my comptech headers and they failed me. Why? cause these were from their first batch and the number on them were only approved for the 1G CL. So I had to call CT Engineering and get a replacement CARB sticker with the CARB number for my car and it says that superceeds previous numbers. Just FYI from experience.
If I had to guess, some shops might actually look more at the numbers now that they don't need to do the emissions test.

The shop I go to let's me go with 30 bucks OTD per smog. That's with the cert included.

Yup. Pennysaver coupon used at Smog Diagnostics. You can get that price too. Or check KC smog through Mike on the sac chat thread.

I think you should pass since the cat is still there. Maybe the visual you won't pass. They don't check under the car but it seems like they've been getting stricter.

Anyone have experience doing the new smog? Do they just do an OBD reading and a visual for post 2000 cars (assuming you haven't been flagged as a gross polluter)?

I just did this. I passed after showing them the CARB sticker Comptech sent me (CARB plate welded on headers are for a different car/year).

Still can't believe they just do a visual and OBD reading. Thank goodness for the cat shield.
