The car looks alot better in that dark gray than in the silver, IMHO. The interior is beautiful. I love the interor console and dash, and would pic it over any German rival (except maybe with the A8, and maybe not even then). The interior is extremely well done.

I love the rear interior, the Maybach inspired reclining seats with ottoman is a nice touch! But the front interior is not that impressive to me, it just looks like an enlarged IS dash. The gray plastic strips and buttons outlining the center stack is tacky so is the digital clock which doesn't belong in a $70K+ car. The armrest and dead pedal looks like any other from Toyota. And lastly the instrument cluster is plain, even the IS has a better design. But overall they did a pretty good job.

I don't find the interior design as impressive as an Audi A8's. It's not bad, but I think it could've been a lot better considering the improvements to the exterior. The reclining seats are cool.

I think that the exterior is a tad too boring and conservative, but the interior is excellently done. It'll really appeal well to the usual Lexus demographic and this thing will probably drive like it's on a cloud. I see this being another major success for Lexus.

Definitely, that goes without saying........this will sell like hotcakes just like the last LS.

Will appeal to current LS owners and will certainly steal customers away from the XJ, 750, and S550.

I think even to a higher extent than the previous LS, its that much more competitive (engine wise, exterior wise, interior wise).

Particularly the A8's dash, it has a more luxurious design and is better executed then the LS.

man oh man, if ever there was a car. The Audi A8 . And now, IMO, with that new Audi grill, it really does look like a $1,000,000 when it passes by; just screams "I MADE IT BIG!"

The exterior looks adequate, but that interior is great! That rear seat looks like it came straight off of a Maybach. It would be great if Lexus put some more exciting wheels on it. The ones in the pic looks like the 2006 TSX wheels.

Seeing the new LS makes me realize a couple of things: A) Infiniti HAS TO get a new Q45 (or other flagship) SOON and B) Honda must develop a V8+ flagship sedan upmarket from the RL. This new LS is simply leaps and bounds better than any other Asian luxury sedan sold in the states.

how on earth did they manage to create a climate control system that measures your body temp? kudos to Toyota on their recent developments, I gotta say it.

Jeep had something similar to that which appeared back in '99 on the Grand Cherokee Limited, which used infrared sensors to detect body heat, and adjusted the desired temperature accordingly.

I just want to see how Nissan responds to this, seeing as they've had the most powerful V8 sedans (of all the Asian makes at least) for quite some time. (<--- correct me if I'm wrong on that assertion. )

You're right. Infiniti's VK V8 has had 340HP for a very long time, and has been the HP leader (standard V8s, not the AMGs etc. from the Germans) in that segment for quite some time. I've very interested in seeing what they do with the next gen of that engine, and the Q in general.

Think the way car companys rate speakers can sometimes be deceiving. Like one 3way speaker will be counted as 3 speakers rather than one or tweeters are counted as a speaker etc. So it could be 6 - 3ways and one sub.

On paper it seems that way but remember the Cobra is really underrated, it actually puts out anywhere from 360 to 385WHP depending on ambient conditions. That's about 425+HP at the crank.

True...on paper. Unofficially, the SVT Cobra SC motor is VERY underrated.

I've wondered for a while why a manufacturer hadn't come out with a feature like that. If you have a bunch of cds, they can get bulky very quickly in the car. Being able to save them to the car's computer is genius, IMO. I hope other lux makers copy that.
I guess it was a risky proposition to have considering the LS target demographic?
But now that Ipods and mp3 players are ubiquitous, perhaps the mp3 market is ripe and a good time for a hard drive standard in a car.

It's probably only going to be available in the "Ultra Luxury" model of the car, which is essentially a chauffeur driver's car. When the driver opens the door for it's owner, which door does it open? The right side. That's probably the answer to your question..

Maybe they should just say 19 transducers. I always think the speaker "race" is funny, since being a 2 channel audio kinda guy, the thought of tons of speakers gives me the willys. Now if I could just figure out how to mount a pair of Totem Mani 2s at the correct place on the dash... but I guess if you were counting their way I would have 6 speakers... even though the Manis are 2 way...

Ehhh, it's a plausible explanation. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense, i mean the current LS has massaging seats for both rear passengers.

Worlds first hybrid V8
Lexus has unveiled the LS600h – a performance hybrid version of its new flagship – at the 2006 New York International Automobile Show.

The all-wheel-drive LS600h will be launched in Australia in the first half of 2007.

It will be the world’s first vehicle of any class or category to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain.

Available only in long wheelbase in Australia, the LS600h hybrid combines the best of Lexus’ luxury, technology and performance.

The vehicle will build on the performance hybrid strategy to be released with the GS450h in May followed by the RX400h later this year.

The LS600h will combine an all-new five-litre V8 petrol engine with combined massive, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack.

It will deliver a peak, combined output of more than 320kW.

“The flagship LS600h, as with the entire Lexus performance hybrid program, is about Lexus stretching its reign as a technology and performance luxury leader,” said John Roca, corporate manager, Lexus Australia.

A new all-wheel-drive system will give superior handling, while a newly developed dual-stage electronic continuously variable-transmission will deliver the hybrid flagship’s considerable power.

With electric motors providing infinite torque from rest, the V8 hybrid system will deliver power seamlessly with impressive acceleration and passing speed.

The LS600h drivetrain is recognised as the automotive industry’s most advanced petrol-electric hybrid system. It is anticipated that it will provide 12-cylinder engine power with V6 fuel economy – estimated at approximately 14 litres/100km.

As a SULEV-rated (Super Low Emissions) vehicle, LS600h is estimated to produce just 20 per cent of the smog-forming emissions of a conventional five-litre V8.

“Obviously we save the best for the flagship. The original LS400 shook up the luxury auto market back in 1990, and the LS600h follows that tradition,” said Mr Roca.

“There is nothing currently available – or to my knowledge even in planning stage – that can offer LS600h’s immense power with its surprising fuel economy and low emissions.”

As released in New York, LS600h will feature a suite of world-first safety systems, such as Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS), which can anticipate and act on possible collisions with pedestrians.

LS600h’s interior is predictably indulgent. Its 5151mm wheelbase will be 122mm longer than that of the LS460 available in Australia from November this year.

A host of Lexus-level luxury appointments include a four-person seating configuration with a fixed rear console and fold-out table, and a right rear-seat 45-degree recliner with ottoman and vibration massage.

A 19-speaker premium Mark Levinson stereo and 19-inch DVD fold-down screen are standard across the new LS line.

LS600h Preliminary Specifications

What's going on with the three-lenses headlights? I like the overall package, but those lights caught my eyes immediately.

I liked these better:

YES!! LED headlights, it's about time it came out of the concept vehicles and into production vehicles.

I'm not sure on this, but I do believe the Audi A8 W12 was the first production car with LED headlights, but it was a secondary system to the Xenon HID. On the Lexus, they look to be the primary source of illumination.
