it really does look like the RL. whats up with that?

i thought toyota/lexus was going to do that new finesse look or something. LFA design? they did it on the IS, Avalon, and GS but why would they go for this look on the LS? cant wait til i see the production car of the lexus flagship though

Looks like a stretched, slightly less ugly ES330 from the profile. Hope this is wrong.

I agree with you guys who think that this is like a less UGLY ES. Oh yes, the ES is one of the ugliest things around.

Yeah, because the ES is a great car. It's like a more floaty, comfy, luxo version of the Camry. And the Camry has always been a great car.

Interesting sketches... I'm disappointed from the front; it gets a little better at the profile, and I like the rear the best. If this pics are accurate, the next LS's face will look like an only bigger. I'm sure the interior will be beautiful, but it still the outside still lacks character, IMHO. I guess we'll see if this is it soon enough...

Looks better than the 7-series.

And what the hell is "kerb-weight", isn't it "curb weight"?

Nothing stellar, but I do think it looks attractive enough to compete. Certainly less awkward looking than the current LS.

^ Now those are much better looking pics of the LS. The rear looksl ike an updated ES, the front, very agressive (but in that generic, Lexus way). From that rear 3/4 shot, you can see the raised trunk lid and sloping rear fenders, much in the vein of the RL and 745iL.

Eight-speed Lexus is on way - - Source: Autoexpress

Hear we go again... In a world first, the Lexus LS460 luxury car is set to re-write the rulebooks with an eight-speed automatic box.

It will debut at next week's Detroit Motor Show, and rival the all-new Mercedes S-Class, which only has a seven-ratio self-shifter.

Love it or eight it, the LS460's smart styling will be based on the Lexus LF-Sh concept which was displayed at last year's Tokyo exhibition. The newcomer is expected to provide class-leading refinement, with an advanced 4.6-litre V8 pumping out more than 370hp and 500Nm of torque.

The clever box isn't the new model's only hi-tech feature. The company has confirmed that the flagship will use a special air-suspension set-up in a bid to steal sales from its European rivals.

Despite its superior refinement, the biggest Lexus has traditionally lagged behind its Continental competitors dynamically - but that could all change with the latest machine. There may even be a long-wheelbase variant to tackle the extended BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class models, although there are no plans for a diesel. Instead, the big range-topper is set to become the first-ever hybrid luxury car.

Set to debut at the New York Motor Show in April, the hybrid will boast a 5.0-litre V8 rumoured to generate 450bhp with the aid of a Toyota Prius-style electric motor. The entry-level LS460 is expected to go on sale in November, starting from around £50,000.

Lord. I love the HP wars, but this is different. I hope it stops at 8. Honestly, I though MB's 7 was as far as it tranny speeds need to go.

LOL, if they are going to use 8 speeds why not just put in a CVT?

Because no CVT can possibly withstand a 450 hp V8?
