Post 2015 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition

Press release...

Lamborghini has announced production of an exclusive new special series, the Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition, created to celebrate the long and ongoing history of collaboration with prestigious Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli. The partnership began back in1963, the year the House of the Raging Bull was established, and since then all Lamborghini cars have been equipped with Pirelli tires. The two firms share not only their Italian origins but also, and above all, a constant quest for technological innovation.

The new Aventador Pirelli Edition, available in Coupé and Roadster versions, will be produced in a special series and is available to order now from dealers, for delivery early summer 2015.

The super sports car maintains all its unique technical features, first and foremost the carbon fiber monocoque, the V12 engine, pushrod suspensions and the permanent all-wheel drive, which underlie the Aventador's global success. The special Pirelli series is enhanced by exclusive equipment specifically designed by the Lamborghini Centro Stile.

The exterior sports a two-tone color scheme in two options. The first is matteblack for the roof, the pillars, the rearview mirrors, the engine hood, and the front, rear, side and moving air in takes, in contrast with six glossy finishes for the rest of the body (Giallo Spica, Rosso Mars, Bianco Isis, Nero Aldebaran, Grigio Liqueo, and Grigio Ater). The second option is glossy black for the upper parts of the car and the air intakes, in contrast with four matte finishes for the rest of the exterior (Bianco Canopus, Nero Nemesis, Grigio Adamas, and Grigio Titans).

I'll be interested to see the numbers on this one. The bar keeps going up. It will be interesting to see what Lamborghini has in store.

Information on the car...

The Lamborghini Aventador has had several years on the market to break necks—both of passersbys and of drivers engaging Corsa mode—but now it's getting an even more extreme variant: the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce, or SV.
These official photos show that yes, Lamborghini can indeed take an extreme design and top it. With much more aggressive aerodynamics, a blazing red paint job, and 750 metric horsepower (hence the LP 750-4 title) from a 6.5-liter V-12, the Aventador SV is the latest track-honed weapon Lamborghini will offer to its patrons.

In the U.S., the car will rate in at 739 hp, which is up 48 hp on the regular Aventador LP 700-4. And combined with roughly 50 kilograms (110 pounds) less weight thanks to the increased use of carbon fiber instead of heavier materials, the new Aventador SV should not only be more powerful but sharper and quicker, too.

The interior has been completely revised with a clear focus on weight reduction. The new sports bucket seats and the door panels are made of carbon and the interior's lightweight design excludes an infotainment system (available as no cost option), carpets and certain noise insulation parts.

That's borne out in the numbers, hitting 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds—about a tenth quicker than the standard Aventador. Top speed is still claimed to be somewhere in excess of 217 mph.

But the real proof of the Aventador SV's pudding will be in the corners, where the enhanced aero, lighter weight and some chassis improvements should allow it to post impressive lap times. The latter includes adaptive magnetic suspension, which responds immediately to road conditions and driving style: wheel damping is adjusted individually during cornering, largely suppressing body roll and making the steering and handling even more responsive. The adaptive damping also counteracts brake diving.

Also new is the electric power steering, which variably adapts the steering ratio to road speed and to the dynamic mode selected. Specially tuned for the SV, it should ensure greater stability at high speed, while making it significantly easier to maneuver at low speed.

For the aero, overall aerodynamics have been optimized by 150 percent in term of efficiency and gained a considerably higher downforce of 170 percent over the standard Aventador.

Even if the Aventador SV is outrun by more ordinary or more extreme supercars in the final tally, however, it will still be uniquely Lamborghini and undeniably head-turning. Let's hope the buyers have whiplash insurance. They'll need it. Deliveries start in the spring of 2015.

Note, an open-top version is due out soon. A prototype for this Aventador SV Roadster has just been spotted.

"The new Aventador SuperVeloce continues the Lamborghini tradition of SV models, pushing the boundaries in terms of performance and pure driving emotion," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said at the reveal. "The original Aventador was presented four years ago, and the SuperVeloce pays homage to its passionate owners, as well as the fan community, whose enthusiasm has resulted in the biggest commercial success ever of a Lamborghini V-12 super sports car.”

Press release...

With increased power, lower weight, improved aerodynamics and innovative technologies the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is the most pure incarnation of a Lamborghini to date: unmistakable Lamborghini super sports car DNA, dynamic superiority and exceptional driving precision. A focus on weight reduction while incorporating innovative technologies has resulted in the most sports-oriented, fastest and most emotional series production Lamborghini ever. The weight has been further reduced by 50 kg through enhanced lightweight engineering including significant use of carbon fiber. The naturally aspirated V12 engine's power is increased to 552 kW/750 hp. This results in a power-to-weight-ratio of 2,03 kg/hp. The Superveloce accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds and powers on to reach a top speed of more than 350 km/h (more than 217 mph).

"The new Aventador Superveloce continues the Lamborghini tradition of SV models, pushing the boundaries in terms of performance and pure driving emotion," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. "The original Aventador was presented four years ago, and the Superveloce pays homage to its passionate owners, as well as the fan community, whose enthusiasm has resulted in the biggest commercial success ever of a Lamborghini V12 super sports car. In the Superveloce Lamborghini's expertise in lightweight engineering is clearly evident. With technological features which, combined with design, quality standards and craftsmanship, the Superveloce results in the most exclusive, pure and emotional production model in the history of our brand."

I do too, except the quad-pipes. For some reason, it can't pull it off the way the Corvette can. The single, angular big exhaust looks much more coherent, IMHO.

I have to say, the Murcielago SV has always been my favorite Lamborghini, up until now. This looks absolutely incredible.

The only thing I'm not completely sold on the body color front splitter (?) in between the grilles. It reminds me of a tongue sticking out.

Not to take away from the achievement but if you watch the video you'll see they stopped the clock early to get the under 7. This was something more like 7:02. Not a big deal but anyway.

Other manufacturers(not all) have done it the same way. IIRC 918, Z28 and Civic Type-R also "cheated" in their recorded runs.

SV Roadster incoming...

Lamborghini has finally confirmed what we’ve known since March—that an open-top version of the new Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce is coming. To be called the Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce Roadster, just 500 will be built, making it even more exclusive than the coupe.

“The Aventador LP 750-4 SuperVeloce is the most pure, sports-oriented and emotional incarnation of a Lamborghini, and all 600 units have been sold, with first deliveries starting now,” Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said at the British event. “We will also produce a roadster version, which our dealers worldwide are now taking orders for.”

With only 500 destined to be built, 100 units less than the coupe, it means you’ll likely have to pay significantly more for the Aventador SV Roadster than the coupe’s already steep $493,069 starting price. Nevertheless, it’s likely the car will sell out fast. All 600 Aventador SV coupes were accounted for within weeks of the car’s 2015 Geneva Motor Show debut.

The roof of Aventador Roadster models is a simple two-piece design that snaps into place. When not in use, the two pieces fit snugly in the car’s front trunk. As they're made from carbon fiber, they are not only sturdy but also extremely light. The total weight comes in at less than 13 pounds, making it very easy to handle.

The Aventador SV is one of the fastest cars in production. It managed to lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, and in our own test drive we found it to be surprisingly sharp and responsive. The performance of the open-top version should be just as exhilarating. A debut will likely take place later in the year.
