Yeah, no official Cadenza thread...so, created. I mean, this car is replacing the Amanti/Opirus -- which to have threads...

WOW, I love it.

Kia and Hyundai are really coming along. They now have their own 8 speed for transverse and longitudinal applications, and 7 speed dual clutch transmissions. Where many brands are turning to ZF for the 8 speeds. I can bet that every next gen Kia will come with no less than 7 speeds.

Alex on Autos seems to really like the Cadenza (much better all-around than the Azera).

Love Alex on Autos. Easily my favorite review channel of any available.

I sat in an RLX in the show room the other day and I have to say I was impressed at the amount of soft touch materials, it really is built to a rather high standard. The reason I mention the RLX is because the new Cadenza appears to be slightly shorter than the RLX and I wonder if this vs a fwd rlx would be better. RLX goes up to 70k here (with awd) this goes for $50k currently. If I was in the position of spending 50-70k, I don't know if I would take an RLX over this to be honest. Though the powertrain and drivetrain is WAY nicer in the RLX.

I'd wait for the refreshed RLX. Hopefully they take the snooze factor out of it.

Yeah I am excited to see what happens. They desperately need to remove the grandpa's buick vibe. The interior and exterior vibe are boring af. I finally seen 2 different rlx's on the road by the way.

I think I'd give the Cadenza a slight edge in the aesthetic department. Would come down to price & how they drive. I'd take either for the right deal.
Or, a K900

I seen ONE (yes 1) K900 on the road since they have come out. Zero cadenza's and 3 RLX's (all the same color and general area by the way, so possibly the same one). On the other hand I did see a good number of new genesis (including a deep blue 5.0 ultimate driven by 3 old ladies)...I feel like I was going somewhere with this, but forgot to be honest.

I've yet to see a K900 on the road, but have seen quite a few Cadenzas & a half dozen RLX.
Surprisingly, I've seen a couple Equus as well.

So, they downgraded, well, with the way Acura's been falling behind lately, who knows... I pass the MB dealer all the time, I cannot tell you how many times I've seen a MB with one headlight or DRL running for no apparent reason other than an eclectical problem!!!

I perfect the simplicity of older cars, I HATE touch teens, really, the only thing I like about new vehicles is maybe EPAS, which I thought I'd hate, but loved instead!!!

The refreshed 2020 Kia Cadenza premium sedan made its debut at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show. Brimming with new design elements, technology and available convenience features, the 2020 Cadenza remains true to its mission of offering luxurious interior surroundings combined with a quiet and composed ride. Significant interior enhancements for 2020 improve ergonomics and a number of newly standard Kia Drive Wise driver-assist technologies make time behind the wheel of the Cadenza more pleasant than ever.

"The Cadenza continues to introduce new and luxury-minded customers to the Kia brand," said Michael Cole, president, Kia Motors America (KMA). "We recognize there are many customers who don't want or need an SUV, but still desire a vehicle with plentiful interior room and a large trunk. The Cadenza is the perfect choice for these people and the refreshed 2020 model is well-suited to their needs."

When it goes on sale, the 2020 Kia Cadenza will be available in two trims: Technology and Limited, while last year's Premium trim has been eliminated.

Exterior Enhancements
  • Redesigned hood and grille with deeper vertical waterfall fascia
  • Standard multi-lens LED headlights with redesigned LED DRL lamps
  • New lower front fascia with integrated turn signals
  • Redesigned rear bumper and trunk lid
  • New LED combination rear taillights
  • Redesigned 18-inch (standard) and 19-inch wheels (available)
While the exterior design is the first thing many will notice, it's on the inside that the 2020 Cadenza sees the most change. Interior design changes include:
  • Completely redesigned dash and instrument cluster with relocated audio controls above the climate switchgear
  • Standard 4.2-inch TFT color screen in the instrument panel
  • New 12.3-inch touchscreen with multi-device Bluetooth® connectivity is standard
  • New available multi-color ambient LED mood lighting (Limited only)
  • Two new nappa leather-trimmed seating colors: Saddle Brown and Gray, with Limited models offering quilted seat bolsters
  • Three additional USB charging ports (one in the front passenger area, two in the rear seat)
  • Enhanced 10-watt wireless fast-charging phone charger
  • New standard Smart Key with remote Engine Start
For 2020, Drive Wise, Kia's advanced suite of driver-assisted technology, sees a number of significant enhancements to the Cadenza. New standard features include:
  • New standard "Sensor Fusion" combines Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian/cyclist detection, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go and High Beam Assist
  • Lane Following Assist follows visible lane markings or a preceding vehicle and provides steering inputs to maintain the vehicle's position in the lane
  • Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist - Rear with Lane Change Assist
  • Highway Driving Assist uses federal highway speed limit information to automatically adjust vehicle speed to be within the posted speed limit
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control - Curve uses navigation data to lower the vehicle's speed proactively before upcoming curves
  • Safe Exit Assist alerts the driver or passenger opening their door to not exit the vehicle when approaching traffic is detected
Powered by the same smooth 3.3-liter V6 from last year, the all-aluminum engine delivers 290 horsepower to the front wheels through an 8-speed electronically controlled Sportmatic transmission. NVH improvements for 2020 include reinforced rear sub-frame cross members and resonator wheels (19-inch only) that help to reduce road noise entering the cabin. Redesigned shock valves reduce vibration and larger rear dampers improve rebound over rough surfaces.

Kia discontinues Cadenza and K900 sedans in the US

Kia only sold 305 K900s in the US last year.

Steven Ewing

Listen
- 01:58
Enlarge ImageThe full-size Cadenza competed with cars like the Nissan Maxima and Toyota Avalon.
Kia Pour 1 (well, 2) out for the Kia Cadenza and K900 -- the sedans are being discontinued in the US. The news was first reported by Car and Driver on Monday, and Kia confirmed the lineup change to Roadshow Tuesday.

"An important part of our growth as a brand is our ability to understand market conditions and recognize our customers' needs," Kia said in a statement. "To that end, as the auto industry shifts its focus from full-size sedans to SUVs, Kia is poised to succeed with a robust range of utility offerings which includes Telluride, Sorento, Sportage and Seltos. As we realign our model lineup to meet consumer demands, the K900 and Cadenza will be discontinued for the 2021 model year."

This news hardly comes as a surprise. Sedans of all sizes have been falling out of favor in the US as customers step up to crossovers and SUVs, and Kia's two largest four-doors have sold in dismal volumes in recent years.

Kia Cadenza quietly rolls into 2020 with small updates

See all photos +14 More Kia refreshed the Cadenza early last year, but only managed to move 1,265 examples through December. The Cadenza competed with other full-size sedans like the Nissan Maxima and Toyota Avalon, both of which are relatively small players for their respective automakers. The full-size sedan class used to include nameplates like the Chevrolet Impala and Ford Taurus, but those sedans were recently put out to pasture, as well.

The larger K900 fared even worse, with only 305 finding homes in the US last year. The K900 was always sort of an oddity in the Kia range -- a rear-wheel-drive luxury sedan with optional V8 power. It spawned from the days when Hyundai sold the Equus, but with the split-off and expansion of the Genesis brand, it doesn't really make sense for Kia to offer the K900.

Kia does see a bright future for its smaller sedans, however. The subcompact Rio and compact Forte will carry on, and the midsize K5 got a major overhaul for the 2021 model year. Kia will keep the super stylish Stinger hatchback around, too, and it receives a few key updates for 2021, including a new turbo engine option.

Not surprising. Pretty slow sellers, I'd think.
Can't even remember the last time I saw either on the road.

Kia is undergoing a renaissance of sorts, heralded by a new logo, streamlined alphanumeric model names, a focus on electrification and crazier designs than ever before. The first production model to wear the redesigned emblem and fresh design language is the new K8 sedan, which replaces the Cadenza in the lineup. Sadly, the K8 won't come to the US, but that doesn't mean we can't still ogle over it.

Making its debut Tuesday, the K8 is about an inch longer than the outgoing Cadenza, which was called K7 in other countries, but no other dimensions were announced. Kia is positioning the K8 both as more of a premium offering and more of a sports sedan than the Cadenza, which is apparently reinforced by the name change.

The first thing you notice about the K8 isn't the new Kia logo, but the massive "tiger nose" grille that sits below it. The grille is frameless so it seems like an integrated part of the bumper, and it features an intricate diamond pattern that's echoed by the LED turn signals beneath the headlights. It's extremely distinctive, and not really like any other Kia currently on sale. The new grille also seems like it could easily be translated onto electric cars by closing off some of the diamond elements, which we're sure is by design.

Like the K5, the K8 has a fastback profile but a traditional sedan trunk, with Kia proclaiming that traditional sedans are being reinterpreted as fastback passenger cars. The K8's sides are sleekly surfaced and mostly unadorned, and Kia says the main character line is inspired by "yachts sailing across calm waters." There's a strange finlike trim element in the rear windows, and a chrome strip in the lower doors kicks up to meet a strip in the quarter panel flowing off the taillights.

Our favorite part of the K8 is the rear end, which features a fabulous ducktail-esque spoiler integrated with the trunk lid above a thin, horizontal taillight strip. The LED taillights split off into two spears to form a Y shape and feature jewellike patterns, and there's a pair of rectangular chrome exhaust tips. The angular look is really successful, and you can expect to see similar taillight shapes on Kia's upcoming crossover EV.

Kia didn't release any interior photos of the K8, just saying that it has a "simple, ergonomic, first-class" interior that's more modern and tech-filled than that of the K7. No information on powertrains or chassis improvements was released either. The K8 will launch in South Korea and other markets later this year, and the brand is set to trickle out more info before then.

https://www.carscoops.com/2021/03/ne...nd-offers-awd/

Kia showed us what the K8 would look like in February but has only now officially revealed what it’s putting under the hood.

The Cadenza/K7 successor that will not be sold in North America or Europe will be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine making 295 hp (300PS) in top spec. Naturally, it will be only one of a number of engine options and will be joined by a 2.5-liter inline-four making 195 hp. The K8 will also get a 3.5-liter LPI (Liquid Propane Injection) engine that makes 236 hp (240PS). Later in the year, Kia will introduce a base 1.6-liter turbocharged four.

Power will be routed via an 8-speed automatic transmission that Kia says improves the V6 engines’ fuel economy by up to 6%. Unlike other premium sedans that sometimes go the double-clutch route for performance, Kia is doubling up on torque converters. That, says the company, makes acceleration smoother and reduces “shift shock,” making for a nicer ride. It’s also partially responsible for those efficiency gains.

Available AWD for V6 model

One of the biggest advantages of the new car over its predecessors will be the addition of driven wheels. Exclusively available for the 295hp 3.5L V6 gasoline model, will be a front-wheel-based AWD system. As standard, it will be front-wheel-drive, though.

The K8 will also be available with electronic suspension adjustments to make it more comfortable or more sporty depending on your mood. But the focus seems to be on comfort.

To make it quieter, Kia has increased the gear ratio, added sound deadening, and has added a third layer of sealing material between the door and the body to really make the interior vault-like.

To really keep you comfortable the interior of the K8 will even come with a “Comfort Stretch mode.” This uses airbags within the seat to give you a “stretch.” It’s a bit of a gimmick, but it’s a fun one. And it’s offered in addition to heated and ventilated seat functions.

It will also come with an air filter that actually monitors air quality in the car. The system also helps keep the HVAC system cleaner, meaning the car will smell better for longer.

As for tech, the K8 gets a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch instrument screen. It even gets a 12-inch heads up display that can project information about speed, driver-assistance systems, and traffic signs on the windshield.

You’ll be able to control many of the cabin’s controls with voice commands. If you’re a bigger fan of listening than speaking, you’ll be treated to a 14-speaker sound system from Meridian.

And no premium sedan would be complete without some advanced driver aids. These include highway driving assistance, forward collision avoidance, smart cruise control, and remote parking assistance. These will help steer the K8 and maintain a distance from surrounding cars in many cases.

The Kia is accepting pre-orders in Korea as of today. As we reported when it launched, the K8 will not be sold in the North American market.
