I had a chance to check them out today. I was very, very impressed. In fact, my first thought was that I would like to have one as a daily driver.

Due to the H-frame structure, the front end was pretty compact which probably helps with weight distribution and structural integrity. It also helps with the overall flow of the car's design which is a good execution of the fluidic sculpture design language.

The interior was very nice, especially for this price range. Granted, I saw some parts that were hard plastic and somewhat cheap. But in a $10k range car, I couldn't complain.

The front seats were comfortable and supportive. I was surprised how roomy it was. But the rear seats were tight. I wouldn't put more than two adults back there and definitely not for a road trip. Perhaps this is a good thing for the front and the trunk, because the trunk was pretty darn decent size. I don't have the numbers, but it looks only a bit smaller than the YF Sonata.

The 6-speed manual felt promising, though I can't attest to the clutch feel. At least the shifter felt slick and confident. The auto transmission shifter was too tall for my taste while the shifter gate materials and the surrounding parts were of nice quality.

I really enjoyed the HVAC and navigation interface. On the manual HVAC control, the temperature knob sits within the fan speed knob with a master button in the center. Nifty.

Well, I won't bore you guys anymore. Everybody already knows what it looks/will look like based on the pictures.

I just wanted to say that it doesn't disappoint in person. If I'm actually thinking about spending my own money to buy one, that probably says something because I'm a cheap bastard. I've had my TL for like 7.5 years now. A modified Genesis Coupe for the weekend and a loaded UD for commute would be a fun, economical setup.

L.A. Auto Show unveiling in two days! Though I must say it really won't be a surprise since everyone expects it to be pretty much the same as the KDM version and it is.

Leaving bright and early tomorrow for L.A. for the press days.

but the automaker's North American CEO, John Krafcik, tells us not to rule out the addition of GDI direct injection on future versions of the Elantra.

Hyundai hopes the 2011 Elantra, unveiled today at the Los Angeles auto show, plows into the small-car market as effectively as the remade Sonata did in the mid-size category, where it's become a fast-seller. Last month it was fourth-best-selling mid-size, closing fast on Nissan's Altima.

To achieve the goal, Hyundai's set Elantra's starting price at what it considers a tempting $15,550 including shipping, and will be able to advertise 40 mpg on the highway.

Hyundai tried to make the Elantra stylish, hoping it reminds you of the sleek Sonata, but making some folks think instead of the Honda Civic -- not necessarily bad.

Jake Fisher of Consumer Reports magazine says he thinks the Elantra is one of the most significant cars of the auto show. It's a stylish, basic car that achieves a lot of its fuel efficiency through weight savings in contrast to glitzier cars with fancy, expensive electric drive systems.

Hyundai's carved out considerable leg and knee room in the back seats. In a quick sit-test at the show, we had lots of spare room in back even sitting behind a six-foot-plus driver.

Elantra weighs 2,661 pounds, light enough that it should be well-motivated by the 1.8-liter four-cylinder rated 148 hp and 131 lbs.-ft. of torque. It'll be available with a six-speed automatic -- rare in this size and price class -- or a six-speed manual. It's built at Montgomery, Ala., and will be shipped to dealers by year's end.

I have lots of pics from the L.A. Auto Show, but I'm exhausted right now. But I will say that the UD was well received by the media. TONS of people were at the Hyundai show and swarmed the Elantra afterward. Base price around $15k, topping out at $22k.

103 Pictures in the album. It was done with a point-and-shoot so don't expect anything spectacular.

It is not going to happen. your constantly ignoring the poor handling characteristics of of Hyundia vehicles.
and the fact that both Sonata and Elantra has nearly identical rear seat leg room. They look the same and styling is similar. so they will be cannablizing each other sales.
Between Honda Civic and Accord. there is big difference in size, and styling. both has separate identity. and excellent coupe versions that even Hyundai Genesis coupe cant compete.

Should it be Honda Civic Champion addition Type R. Hyundai has to built LFA equivalent to compete. So there is no point in comparing the company products when same level of technologies is used. not 2005 competing against 2010.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T vs Honda Civic Si Coupe: Track Comparison

Unconventional Competitors: The Affordable Sports Coupe Track Test By David Pratte, Aug. 21, 2009, Photography by Joe Magro Video by Colum Wood

As you can see from the data acquired from the fastest lap recorded for each car during testing (using a DriftBox, a device that uses both GPS and onboard accelerometers to measure speed, lateral g-forces, longitudinal g-forces, yaw angle and much more), the Civic Si had a marked acceleration advantage over the Genesis Coupe 2.0T. You can see this quite clearly on the main graph, which plots mph and lateral g’s on the vertical axis and distance in feet on the horizontal axis. The blue line represents the Civic’s speed and the dark purple (appears black) line that follows below it is the Genesis Coupe’s speed. At the end of the main straightaway, the Honda was consistently reaching 96 to 97 mph before braking for Turn 1, whereas the Hyundai was reaching a maximum of 90 mph at the same point. This trend continued across the entire 1.4-mile distance covered during a lap of the test circuit (the shape of which you can see in the bottom right corner of the data screen), where the Civic’s blue speed line remains above the dark line representing the Genesis Coupe’s speed.

hyundai (elentra) stealing away honda's (civic) sale is enough to say elentra is going to kick civic's ass
elentra doesn't have to outsell civic (which won't happen overnight) to say that statement

In the rest of the world, it's called the Hyundai i30, but by another name, it's going to come to the U.S. next year, the AFP news agency reports.

The i30 made its debut earlier today in South Korea, where Hyundai is based. The small crossover previously made an appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In the U.S., it's likely to come as a replacement for the Elantra Touring, an obscure model that's more like a minivan, reports Car and Driver. AFP says Hyundai expects to compete against vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf in Europe and that it hopes to sell 215,000 of the new model next year, 190,000 of them outside South Korea.

As was mentioned this really isn't an Elantra but if they will bring it to the US as the Elantra Touring replacement, it can be discussed in this thread.
