I'm surprised this stuff hasn't come out sooner - these things should be coming of the assembly line next to the RDX within a couple of months.

Looks good - by this time next year when gas is approaching $4/gal, a 30+MPG SUV (CRV diesel) would sell real well.

Nahh, i don't think Honda is playing at all.

While the other kids have moved up to Twister, Honda is still trying to master the intricacies of Chutes and Ladders.

Maybe someday Nissan will enter this class

When the realworld mileage on the v6 rav is coming back at 17-20 by most of the reviewers the V6 doesn't seem quite as hot. this class is all about mileage.

We get the X-Trail in Canada and apparently the next gen will be US bound as well.

I don't see the need for a 3.5L in the CRV but the 3.0L from the Accord would have fit nicely IMO. 10-15% of sales is better than having that customer go over to Toyota.

Uhh, they already are...it's called the Xterra.

In this class (in the U.S.), the compact and small-Midsize SUVs are:

Rav4
CR-V/Element
Xterra
CX-7
Escape/Tribute/Mariner
Liberty
Tuscon
Sportage

They all offer V6 engines (optional or standard), except the CR-V/Element and CX-7. but the CX-7 has a turbo.

I guess Honda's got at least one other company to play Chutes and Ladders with.

You forgot Outlander, Equinox and Torrent.

And I personally don't consider the Xterra competition for the CRV. Probly because its about 5-8k more up here.

Yes, stateside the CRV MSRPs between $20,395 (LX) - $25,450 (SE) where the Xterra MSRPs between $20,050 (X) - $27,750 (SE).

It does look smaller, probably going back to the original size of the 1st gen. I don't think that's a bad thing; the current CR-V has gotten too big IMO.

By looking at the specs, the next gen CR-V isnt really that different with respect to dimensions.

The 07 wheelbase is 1" longer, and the width is about 3" wider. The length is .3" "shorter". I believe though, that the previous measurement (for years 02-06) includes the rear mounted spare in its length calculation. If this is true, the new CR-V is actually longer than the previous iteration.

In terms of cargo space, the new CR-V will lose around 11 cubic feet (61 cu. ft instead of 72). The interior passenger volume is similar to the 2nd gen; I dont have any specifics though.

The biggest difference is weight. The 07 CR-V 4WD EX is supposed to weigh ~250 pounds more. However, the engine is supposedly going to be slightly stronger. Also, it has been stated that the new CR-V will be "sportier".

I think that's the most distracting element. It also must restrict visibilty when you're reversing into a spot...

Why does Honda like those kind of headlights? First on the US Accord and now on the CRV, if you're listening Honda, "the shape of the headlights are bloody awful"!!!

Ugly, just plain ugly you hear!

The saddest part is this car will still sell because of the Honda record of "reliability".

I can live with teh front end. But the rear quarter window is TERRIBLE. It brings up memories of a Taurus.

I agree, I don't even find the front end that offensive now that the wraps are off. But the rear glass is horrible.

Definately nowhere near hot or sporty, chick looking minivanish, yes. I thought about the next CRV as possible future vehicle being it would be similiar to what it is now with 180hp, but not looking like this exterior wise. Reminds me of the mb r-class but worse. Maybe thats the look they wanted.

Is it just me or it looks like it has styling cues from the Volvo XC90 SUV? Also, not a fan of the plastic bottom.

Whoa, not sure about that grill. Too busy. But I really like the rest. The side windows in particular.

Now throw a V6 in that thing for god's sake.

OK, I am looking at this from a CRV history standpoint. From model 1 to now, that thing is A FUCKING EXCELLENT IMPROVEMENT!

Now if your just looking at it from a what's in front of you standpoint, I understand the previous negative comments.
