I suppose it's a long-term investment plan... sort of.
Yes, limited edition Ferraris will appreciate in value depending on how many are actually produced & what the demand is.

The Speciale will increase the moment the 458 production halts, yet something like the 599 Alfonso Edition will likely stay where it retailed for due to the lack of general acceptance.

Ferraris that are front-engined seem to not get too much love...generally speaking...esp. the more current wave (i.e. 456, 550).

But, yeah...the limited run cars not only hold their value, they increase in value. It's like that for most uber-cars though methinks. You won't find the McLaren F1 dropping in value...
This isn't really true. Out of all Ferraris, mid-engine V8s tend to depreciate faster than the others simply because they make so many of them & owners are quick to trade their current ones in for the next ones. You can see it from the 355 all the way to the 458, which will start to drop as soon owners get their Speciales or the next mid-engine V8 comes out.

Only the special editions have gone up, but nowhere near what the special editions of front-engines; Barchetta/SuperAmericas are selling for $200,000+ every day, the price of a decent 599 GTB (which is depreciating at the moment because they're being traded for F12s; price of buying new vs. ordering your own & waiting will run you $500,000 to bypass the wait).

The same thing happened when he got his C63BS, it was around $130k and he was getting offers nearing $250k, due to the car's limited availability.
The SLS Black Series is going to sky rocket as soon as production halts & a few years pass. There's a brand new one retailing for $380K right now. There's another at $287,000 with barely any miles which means it could quite possibly join the Ford GT & Carrera GT as a car that will immediately return the owner's investment.

If he got offers for his C63 Black at $250,000, he should have taken them. That car is nowhere near even $200,000 on the market. Good condition, low miles, $115,000 at best w/ the track package installed because it was produced beyond 1 year unlike the SLS.
