the difference between a good 7/8 speed AT and a DCT is getting smaller every year in terms of shifting speed.

the 8 DCT i test drove in the TLX shifted no faster than the ZF 8AT in the loaner 328i i had.

The base Corvette is 455 HP, the Z51 package is 460 HP. 460 HP is more than I've ever driven.

I can't imagine 650 HP in the ZO6.....

Honestly, IMHO with modern engines (mechanically speaking) by time it hits the dealer lot for you to buy its already broken in.

Dyno for the Z06...

So, unofficially, if we account for the standard 15%-ish drivetrain loss along the way, that’s 688HP and 725lb-ft at the crank. So, a bit more than 650.

Up to 660/663 now

Our friends over at Vengeance Racing went straight from the dealership to hit the dyno! Bone stock the 2015 C7 Z06 put down 587hp/611. After some base pulls Ron and the guys at vengeance Racing pull the Z06 apart to install a high flow cold air intake, upper pulley, and custom VR tune. Just these basic mods increased 75whp/60TQ to 660whp/663TQ.

This is the mid-engine Corvette test mule

It's unreal, yet totally real, and it's happening.

This is the mid-engine Corvette that all of you called BS on when that that story broke back in October.
Well, it's obviously not the final car, but it's officially our favorite cobbled-together test mule ever—C7 passenger cell, with flared-out Holden ute bodywork around it. Why make the mule a Vetteamino? Well, that engine's got to go someplace.
Car and Driver has a mountain of additional spy shots, so you should go there right now.
Chris Doane Automotive
As for us? We have a suggestion for Chevy.
Next week's Detroit Auto Show is going to be a giant Ford Party, what with the expected (though Ford won't confirm) debuts of the Shelby GT350R, the new Ford GT replacement, and the new Raptor all tipped to debut.
So make 'em sweat.
Chris Doane Automotive
Roll this exact mule onstage, be like, "Yeah. This is happening." Then drop the mic and hustle it away.
That would probably get people talking. Now go see more photos.

I'll be interested to see how it looks. But performance should be jaw-dropping. More tidbits from C&D: EXCLUSIVE: Mid-Engine C8 Chevrolet Corvette First Photos! ? News ? Car and Driver

Behold, mid-engine Corvette fans: The car you’ve waited patiently for Chevrolet to build has finally evolved beyond titillating concepts to the engineering mule revealed here. An 82-second strike by our recon op resulted in 15 frames before security narcs dropped the curtain on this black test car—with its two occupants still inside.

Don’t fret over the pointy-pickup camouflage; more attractive attire will follow. Instead take solace in a cabin hugging the front axle, ample space between the cockpit and the rear wheels for the hot parts, and this Corvette’s crouched and ready attitude.

The nose clip is from Holden's Commodore SSV (with even wider flares), while the cabin module, roof, and exterior mirrors are hand-me-downs from today’s Stingray. A Holden SSV ute’s sheetmetal wraps door to door around the heinie. The wing keeps the tail planted during high-speed runs and what could be more practical than the bumper-mounted 2-by-10 for shoving this test sled back to the garage when it breaks down? Other items of note: The fuel-filler located on the driver’s-side B-pillar and the cooling intakes located along the rocker panels.

Scaling the span between the axles using the wheels as guides (we’re estimating them at 19 inches in diameter) yields a projected wheelbase of 98.9 inches, some eight inches shorter than that of today’s Corvette. That blueprint upgrade comes from bumping the transmission from ahead of to behind the rear axle as God and Dr. Porsche intended. A tighter wheelbase quickens steering response and cinches up the turning circle. It goes without saying that at least 60 percent of this probable Corvette ZR1’s mass will be supported by the rear wheels, enhancing launch traction and balls-out braking. There are rumblings that the engine bay may eventually play host to a small, 3.5- to 4.0-liter V-8 with all the fixin’s—meaning no pushrods.

Thus far GM has issued no denials discrediting our most recent (and highly detailed) mid-engine Corvette forecasts. While there’s no fresh intel regarding launch timing, the fact that experimental hardware has left the laboratory suggests that the C8 Zora sports car is on schedule to roll into showrooms in about 20 months as a 2017 model, at which point it will be sold alongside the front-engined Corvette. Place your orders now or find yourself stuck at the back of a long delivery line.

You're right. I just have a bad feeling this is a $150,000 Vette. I would give a lot for a mid-engined Vette.

Yea, they've been in the rumor phase on this mid-engine set-up for a lot of years now.

GM Denies 2015 Corvette Z06's Rumored 6:59.13 Nürburgring Lap Time, Says "Is Not Correct"
Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:31 am | Posted by John Halas

From early this morning, there's a rumor going around that the new 2015 Corvette Z06 lapped the Nürburgring in an amazing 6:59,13, but we're here to tell that it's not true.

If it were, the Corvette Z06 would have been the fourth fastest production car on the Nordschleife, two seconds behind the Porsche 918 Spyder (6:57).

The story seems to have originated on Horsepowerkings (you probably remember them from their report on Ford dropping V8 engines from 2017 which was debunked, and their claims that the Mustang GT350R lapped the 'Ring in 7:32.19, which we question as well), and quickly spread on other sites, and we quote Horsepowerkings:

"According to fresh reports, the 2015 Corvette Z06 has run a lap time of 6:59.13 at Nurburgring, and the HD on-board video will be released 'soon'. What do we know about this run? It was done in a production 2015 C7 Z06, and the car was equipped with the Z07 aerodynamics package, along with GM’s new 8L90 eight-speed transmission. That is all the information we have at this point, but we do expect more (official) information to be released in coming weeks."

We contacted Chevrolet Spokesman Monte Doran and asked him about the alleged report. This is what he told Carscoops:

"Simply put, that number is not correct," said Doran. "We accumulated nearly 1,000 miles of testing on the Nurburgring with the Z06. However, as you know, there are very limited opportunities to get a lap on video at the ‘Ring. Both opportunities we had to record a lap on video were rained out. We have decided not to release a lap, as we don’t have the video to back up a time. When we get a chance to run a fast lap for video, we will publish an official time."

I had some serious doubts, no way in hell that car is almost as fast as a 918 Spyder.
