It's not going to be confused with a BMW or Audi but it's light-years better than the current Cobalt/HHR/Caliber class cars.

General Motors has officially announced that it will produce the upcoming Cobalt replacement, the Chevrolet Cruze, at its Lordstown, Ohio facility. The Cruze will make its worldwide debut at this October’s Paris Motor Show.
The car will hit the European market in the spring of 2009, with U.S. production at the Lordstown plant — where the Cobalt is currently made — beginning in June 2010. Although the Cruze will replace the Cobalt, GM will produce both vehicles for a short time together.
GM has yet to release any specs on the all-new Cruze, but it is expected that the new compact will use GM’s new 1.4L turbocharged engine. Fuel mileage should at least equal that of the current Cobalt, with figures in the 40 mpg range likely.
Based on what was once called the Delta 2 platform, the all-new Cobalt will ride on GM’s Global Compact Vehicle Architecture. The primary engineering and development will come from GMDAT — General Motor’s Korean partner (although there has been strong input from the North American and European planning groups).
Codenamed GMX071, the Cobalt shares many components as well as styling features with the next Daewoo Lacetti, including a large portion of sheetmetal.
Obviously Chevrolet’s Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti will not be completely identical, as each will have different styling cues on the front and rear clips, headlamps and taillights, although earlier prototypes do appear to have a grille that strongly resembles the new Malibu and upcoming Traverse.
Chevrolet will also offer another version for markets outside of the United States, known as the Optra. In addition to these, there will likely be up to 15 different cars for GM’s global markets based on this new “Global Delta” architecture.

Wow, that's a much better looking car than the Cobalt could ever be. The interior looks good. It has some design element from the new Honda Accord, but is quite pulled together. The taillight design reminds of some other car's though...

That pic is obviously of a European version - maybe the Optra (US license plate wouldn't fit on the trunk lid) which always gets nicer interiors. I wouldn't get my hopes up that the Cruze would be anything other than some warmed over cheap GM offering.

It looks really nice IMO.

I've been in the current Cobalt, rental..... it looked and just invoked a sense of cheapness. I didn't even have to touch anything, I just sat down and was like, wow. Who in their right mind would buy this over a Civic, Corolla, Sentra even, etc. This looks like it'll be a major improvement.
The Cobalt SS (turbo) ran an 8:22 on the Ring which is nothing compared to the GT-R or ZR1 of course but impressive for a car of its class.... in fact I think its the best of its class. But considering how boring looking and cheap feeling it is I wouldn't even consider it, but if all goes well, it deserves a maybe.

^ that's the Daewoo, and obviously an upscale version. The Chevy version may be just alittle more, ahem, downmarket...
#178
Yup, that's Daewoo on the steering wheel. Doubt it'll have the leather interior either.

I'll just say it now, as much of a GM fanboy as I appear to be, I would NEVER choose a GM econo-compact over its Honda/Nissan competitors until now.

That is a much better interior than anything in that class from GM ... EVER.
HOWEVER, I want to point something out that GM has been doing lately that is completely perplexing and somewhat infuriating.
Look at where the Lock/Unlock buttons are for the doors.
Can someone explain to me how that could be construed as a good idea?

Welcome last car I had the door locks were on the center console...never bothered me.
Then again I never used them. Doors autolocked at 10 mph....unlocked when engine is turned off.

nice but why is there cloth on the dashboard??? it would be perfect if they put some aluminum trim to replace the colorful cloth shit.
#193
^ I like the cloth, it's different, but it works. Not sure about long term durability, but for looks it works.
I am soooo tired of the fake aluminum on all cars these days. I don't even want real aluminum. This is breath of fresh air.

score 1 for chevy over acura.
damn even chevy gets it but acura is still lost.
