What for? They all look the same right across their model range anyways (maybe not exactly, but pretty much).

To me, it looks terrible. The front is okay, but look at the rear of that thing. Anyway, we are all entitled to our opinions. That's why there are so many designs out there. To each his own...

The front will probably look just like the Z4, it seems.
Lots of taping and such disguising, but it seems like the design reflects more Bangle-ing than the 7 or 5.
I think the most 'ugly' part of the design for a BMW, far as my opinion goes, is that exagerated 'hofmeister' kink in the rear window, just doesn't look BMW to me.

If it does resemble the Z4 from the front, than it's not such a pretty car IMO.

Junkster, who would still like to see the coupe and the sedans.

The hood/nose is too long for that short body. Looks kind of like a 3 series with a lopped off tail again.

It has to be to fit an I6 engine driving the rear wheels. That was one of the things I wondered about in this car. As the rest of the car shrank the hood had stay that long to fit the engine, hence you end up with this disproportioned car.
Maybe the trunk of the sedan will fix that.

Spy Shots: ’05 BMW 1-Series - The new Golf-killer from Munich - - by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image

Here are photos showing prototypes of the new BMW 1-Series almost without disguise. They got caught during cold weather testing near the Arctic Circle. From September 2004 on, the Bavarians will enter the Golf class with the new 1-Series, hoping to sell at least 150,000 units per year. Meaning also, these buyers would have to come from former VW-Golf or Opel Astra customers in Europe.

The new 1-Series is a rear-drive car with a longitudinal engine and it will be available in several different body versions. The pictured prototype is the five-door basic model with a steep rear end. BMW will add in the beginning of 2005 a three-door and in the same year a coupe version; a sporty wagon version is coming, but will not be out before the end of 2005.

Power will come initially from four-cylinder engines only: a 120-hp, 1.8-liter four, a 2.0-liter four with 160 hp, and two diesels at 115 hp and 150 hp. Later on a turbo version of the gasoline four-cylinders delivering 220 hp is expected.

Those are horrible. The 1 series is just terrible, that thign is gonna be a failer, at least i hope it is. The 4 series isnt that bad, i would have to see it in real life. The convert is actualy pritty hot, but keep in mind that this is an artists rendering, not necissaraly the real thing, so i doubt it would look exactly like this.

Again, the 1 is just terrrible.

i'd rock a 4, and take shits on every 1 series that i see on the road with it.

and wtf is up with the 432iS? 3.2 liter turbo making 325 horses? why not just stick the current M3 engine in there? be allmotor and make more power.

Cos the turbo will make a ton more torque than the M3's engine.

exactly. seems so un... BMW. like honda using f/i... it's cool, sure, fast and all, very moddable, but it just doesn't seem typical of these car companies to use F/I for power. especially BMW, since they make engines with cylinders > 6 (unlike honda).

I am not surprised now, because there have been rumors for FI from BMW for about a year now. It was about the 3 liter 380HP engine rumored on the current/new 5 Series car which have now subsided. Maybe it's the 3.2 liter engine shown above, maybe not.

Though, I was absolutely surprised when I first read the rumors.

You have to factor in the evolution we've seen with FI during the past 5-7 years. That's why it's slowly getting "typical" for many companies to use this solution more and more. You'll see it more and more as we'll see AWD get more ubiqueteous.

Hopefully, if this does happen, it will be a 4cylinder that can handle a decent amount of power. Would be cool to finally have a rwd compact, although probably weak from the factory, that could be tuned like the golf, srt, wrx etc.
