Acura RL News **Less Expensive RL on the way (page 33)**

According to Automobile Mag which I was reading today while in Los Angeles, the next RL will be shown at the next Detroit auto show and will offer FWD and AWD as an option. A new 3.5 liter V6 will be used which will make 260 lb-ft of torque and 300 HP the mag reported. RWD is scraped.

ANd that was the previous rumor that I posted here a long time ago. It came from Autoweek I believe. Afte this latest 300HP rumor, I believe that both might be true. Only IMA will come one or two years later and maybe as an option. We'll see. At least both rumors agree on the AWD piece.

Are you sure it was not Autoweek you read at the dealer's? Acura has not officially printed any of the above "rumors". That's why I call them rumors. Anything that's not officially announced by the company is a rumor. But there are different types of reliability levels applied on those rumor. Coming from Autoweek, it's pretty reliable.

And I would not be surprised to see the TL get the same setup as well.

i think if acura comes back with a ivtec 3.5L v6 300 hp/260 lb.ft . for there new RL (which has been an under achiever for it's whole life) will be the biggest mistake acura will have ever made....lets face it...you know the TL has to be a performer .if it were just this body style change, 270 FWD they'd have shown us by now...i believe they intend to set the bar that much higher again ,as they did with the first type S...with 280 to 300 hp /260+lb.ft. and the MDX awd system ...what room would this leave for the RL 300 hp and the rest basically the same....i believe we're gonna get wow'd from acura over the next few years first with this TL and in '05 the IMA RL

Hmmm... Acura must have something planned for the NSX too. Can't have a 300hp luxury car out horsepower the flagship 290hp sportscar

It seems there would no TL Type-S... Next year a 300 HP AWD Type-S might be possbile. But would be enougt? Volvo has 300 HP but has a ~300 lbft too!... 260 lbft is not too much for AWD system.. Sure enought it would not be as quick as the S4 or S60R!

I was at the dealership today...they CLAIM (and I know dealers aren't the most reliable source for this stuff)...but they CLAIM Acura will do the unthinkable...they will put a new V8 in the NSX. He says "it's official." We'll see.

THe possibility for a V8 in the NSX and a V8 from Honda in general, increased dramatically when Honda officially announced that they will enter the truck market. Though at that time, they made it clear that it will not be the full truck market, but mini truck, or smaller truck market (sorry I dont follow trucks to be familiar with the jargon). The bottom line is that the above statement suggests V6 engines would be enough.

Though I am guessing that even if the above is true, Honda might have mean that "the fact that we wont come out with V8 trucks right away is because we dont have the capacity to produce them in large numbers". So even after all the above, the NSX could get a V8 no problem. Because the production of this new, hypothetical V8 is so low, that it does not necessarily apply on the mass market statements the comapny makes. And certainly, the "truck statements" falls under the mass market umbrella.

Bottom line, if the next RL gets 300HP from a V6, there are 2 possibilities for the NSX. Either make that V6 (or a slightly enlarged one, to 3.8 liters for example) make at least 350HP to be competitive, or make at least 350HP from a V8 (possibly 4 liters or so). Either way, the next NSX will have significantly more torque than the current car. ANd torque is what the NSX needs more than anything else. 224 pounds is just plain rediculous at this point. Even for its displacement it's nothing special any more. My RX 300's engine makes 222 pounds and it is 200cc smaller! Give me a break for $90K.

You know, I'm not too concerned about the other cars having more hp than the NSX (and I have a feeling Acura isn't worried either). It's still an amazing car. Even if the RL or TL end up with 300hp, the NSX will still be faster...and that's what's important when it comes to sports cars. The idea of a V8 is intriguing though. w00t.

I dont think 300hp awd rl is going to happen either...but hey crazier things have happened before...someone DID actually decide to bring out the aztec...

Ugh, The lights in the grill idea is indeed intriguing but I'm not digging on how they did, but hopefully it will change for the better for the lexus version.

Another sad note, from that angle it looks a little neonish.

all three of those cars look very nice IMHO. But I hope they change the grille of the RL to more of an Acura trademark grille with the single crome bar in the middle.

Every car looks good, except for that rendition of the GS. I certainly hope it doesn't come out looking like that.

If the RL looks like that, it will deffinitly sell extremely well.

I guess Acura is happy having the RL a 3rd level luxury sedan. FWD and a V6 (225hp only recently) for a car that costs over $45,000??? No thanks, 530 BMW or Lexus GS300 in that same price category please. We all know that they can make a hell of a car I just wish they would grow some fucking balls and send it to the front of the line.

Ummm...theholloywoodextra.com is not a place to see new cars.

The guy photoshops cars and passes them off as what is coming. Every once in a while he adds on cars that were revealed at autoshows to add legitimatcy to his garbage.

He had an Opel that was suppose to be the next Maxima on there for the longest time.

Best just to ignore.

"European" Honda Legend gets 300HP 3.5 liter V6 from Dualnote

By Chris Thorp

Next Legend To Ring Changes

It's no myth - the Legend lives on. Exclusive pictures in the current issue of Auto Express magazine reveal the all-new Honda that will take on the likes of BMW's 5-Series and Mercedes' E-Class. Caught on camera at the Nürburgring in Germany, the Legend was being put though its paces by UK engineers brought in to ensure the car will appeal to European tastes.

Wider and longer than an Accord, the new model will get the 3.5-litre V6 engine first seen in the Dual Note supercar concept shown at the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. With 300bhp, 320Nm of torque and four-wheel drive, it will have the muscle to take on the most powerful of rivals. A five-speed auto gearbox will be standard, with sequential changes available via steering wheel-mounted buttons. To improve fuel economy, the engine will get Variable Cylinder Management, which shuts down three of the six cylinders when cruising.

The car will be launched in Japan in October next year, and will arrive in Britain in 2005. A hybrid version will be introduced at a later stage, using technology showcased in the Civic IMA.

And if I remember correctly, the engine in the Dualnote was an iVtec engine.

Unfortunately 320Nm is only 236 lb-ft which is 4 pounds more than our CLS. Surprisingly low for a 300cc increase in displacement.
