Nexus 7 Install after NAV went out
Well just purchased my TL a few weeks ago and the NAV unit would freeze or not load up. So I ventured into cleaning the drive and then was going to order a replacement drive myself instead of spending $450 for Alpine to do it.
After much searching their was basically no cheap fix for the NAV unit and I didn't want outdated maps.
So... I read some threads on here and decided to put in a 2012 Nexus 7.
* I'll add details after the holidays and links for everything. For now here are some photos. Absolutely the best thing Ive done yet.

Congratulations! Couldn't agree more - several folks have asked if my 2005 car is a new 2015 model!!!
Which ROM did you end up using? I'm thinking about updating mine, even though it's stable. One advantage of these tablet installs is that you can save your current installation, and then revert back to it if a future modification creates problems...

I rocked the Timur one since day one.
But recently, I got pissed at it. So, I wiped it, and installed Cyanogenmod.
I'm having GAPPS issues, and a weird thing where the screen seems to refresh. When this happens it kicks me out of my Netflix or YouTube video. I've been meaning to look into that. But my amp took a shit on Thursday. So, I've been neglecting the TL since.

My Navi unit is out, too. I have been trying to decide if I wanted to pay to get a new disk drive or send it off. I think this looks like a better idea for about the same money. I can't wait to see more of your posts on this mod.

Way better mod and a lot cheaper. Plus now my radio looks updated along with capabilities to play my phone on my isimple, and the joys of havin Internet on the tablet. No problems as of yet, except I still can't get my tablet to connect to my laptop via the hub. So I just Bluetooth my new music over

How difficult was it to do this? My NAV just died on me and wont eject the disc and this seems alot better than sending it in to Alpine.
How did you connect the audio from the tablet?
Also any pictures of the power source?
How come you didnt just use the Nexus' android OS?

As for putty, I believe folks used the Milliput brand from Hobby Lobby:

Most of us have connected to the OBD2 using an inexpensive reader from Amazon ($8?) and Torque. Other key apps are Google's g-apps, which includes Google Now + Maps (and traffic), Pandora, EasyCam (backup camera), Apex Launcher (cleaner user interface), AutoMate for Android Beta (replicates Android Auto), Pocketcasts (Podcasts), Yelp (for some).
