HFL Parasitic Current Draw SB 08-057

Anyone have an issue with the HFL module failure causing a parasitic draw on the battery and killing the battery?

After my dealer checked this out and sold me a new battery I discovered this SB. They want $500 to replace the HFL module. Do they do the SB for free or only while the vehicle is still under warranty?

Thanks,

A search will pull up quite a few threads here about the parasitic draw and HFL failure.
There are several threads here that also show the 5- to 10-minute HFL replacement process; you just need to buy the $180-$230 HFL "telephone assy, hands free" from our on-line vendor Acura dealers or your Acura dealership.
Some members had success baking the circuit boards and reinstalling their HFL, too.

The TSB items are not warranty work if the parts haven't failed, but dealers decide if they will pay for fixes when the cars are under warranty. Out of warranty, the owners generally pay for them.

Thanks for the feedback. I was going to replace it myself, but thought I would see first if anybody got the dealer to pay for it even though the vehicle is out of warranty.

I appreciate your input.

HFL replacement - no problem

I just did this myself over the weekend, since I'm getting ready to trade in my 2007 TL and wanted everything working. I was at the Acura dealer test driving an MDX, and went to the parts shop to see if they had the module in stock. They wanted $330 for it but came down to $220 when I showed them a printout from an online Acura parts dealer who was selling it for $210.

Replacement was quite easy, just remember to disconnect your battery first. Also note that there are different variants of the light module (which houses the HFL) depending on your car's interior, but if you are only replacing the HFL you can buy whichever is cheaper/in stock -- re-use your existing housing.

I didn't want to replace the part, so I just removed the whole module.
