Tonight I noticed that my "Driver 2" key fob was not working with my '10 TL SH-AWD Tech Pkg.

I suspected it was a battery issue, as this battery was about five years old. After swapping out with a fresh battery, no luck.

This fob has been used maybe three times to check if my car was locked before going to bed. Most recently about four months ago (successfully).

So I got to thinking, about two months ago, I had my short block replaced (under warranty, 20k miles, three days shy of powertrain warranty ending). Is it possible that in the process of replacing my engine (and a host of other parts that broke as a result), the service center could have unpaired my key fobs, then reprogrammed my "Driver 1" fob? As my "Driver 2" fob was sitting in a drawer, it would logically have been absent from the reprogramming process.

I'm not sure why this would happen, as disconnecting the battery has never affected my fobs in the past..

I suppose I'll call the service center tomorrow to see if they'll take a look into it. Maybe they won't charge me $300 to reprogram an original key..

My question is, has anyone ever run into a situation where one fob just flat-out stopped working? This fob has seen no abuse whatsoever, unlike my primary key, which I've had several of those, "Oh S#!@!" moments with (somehow fling my keys from my pocket, 30 feet away onto asphalt...watch a 500lb barbell roll over the key as I celebrate a big deadlift)

if they changed the Engine, you need to go back to get your 2nd driver key fob re-programmed. this involves using the HDS(honda diagnostic system) and only the dealers have this handheld device.
