Unhappy 2010 TL USB port seemingly died

Well, not hopeful here, but I thought I'd give the forums a try. I've been using my 5th gen iPod 160GB (the non-touch, non-bluetooth kind) in my TL for years now and it's worked pretty well (except for the terrible nav with large amounts of music).

Yesterday I went to play some music and the USB connection says NO DATA. I unplugged ipod and reconnected at ipod side, unplugged and replugged at the USB dongle side, reset ipod, all to no avail. I then took the ipod in and tried it and the usb to ipod cable on the computer and it works fine. The cable looks fine, no damage or anything. Also tried blowing on connectors and yelling at it with zero affect.

I then tried plugging in my Samsung Galaxy S4 into the USB connector and it still would not connect and also did not show a charging indicator.

So it seems the USB port is dead. Everything else on radio/nav works ok: bluetooth with S4, hdd, nav, radio etc. I am hoping against hope for a magic USB only fuse or the like. I hate the thought of bringing it to the dealer for this.

Thanks for any help.

Same thing happened to me I always had my ipod plugged in and then one day it just stopped recognizing it. I tried playing music off a normal usb flash drive and it works. I don't think these ports provide enough power for charging phones, it didn't work with my blackberry either. I haven't investigated further as to why the ipod stopped working

You enter a diagnostic mode by holding the Menu, Map/Guide and Cancel Button for at least 3 seconds once the caution screen comes up. From there you can run a diagnostic check of all the components. I looked at the schematic it doesn't look like the USB has a separate fuse.

Run the diagnostics and if the USB shows up as green then I don't think the port would be the problem, also try plugging in a normal flash drive with music and see if that works. Also try to reset the ipod, I think there is a specific procedure for each model

Hope this helps

Okay I just went out to my car and reset the ipod and it works.
I have seen it on other forums too where the ipod connection for the car just stops working for no reason.
Hopefully your fix is as easy as mine was

Happens to me about once every two weeks, I start the car and the iPod displays NO DATA.
No matter how many times I unplug it it continues to display NO DATA until the car is restarted.
