2013 Nav Update Disc?
I just recieved a letter from Acura stating the new 2013 map discs are available for 149 with free shipping, I currently have the 08 disc so I have to figure out if I need this or not.

these "updates" Arent really updates at all.
if you're expecting faster load up times, newer graphics, better searches, etc....Dont hold your breath.
all these new "updated" disk bring updated POI and newer roads that have been constructed in the last 2 years.
which isnt much of an update at all.
I dont know about you, but I have better itesm/places to spend the $149 on.

I usually skip a year or two with my TSX and RDX. The last time I updated was in spring 2010 for both cars, I'm about due again. I wish Acura could give a more detail explanation of map, traffic, weather, features and firmware updates are on the disks.
I did notice when I upgraded in 2010, my Bluetooth worked a little better with the 3GS iPhone. Not sure if it was the update disk or just software updates from iPhone.

I had a 2012 RDX loaner for a few days and I notice the traffic works zoomed all the way down to the lowest level. This might be the same for the 12 MDX tech you drove.
I'm trying to remember; but, I think it took a while for my traffic to show up when I renewed the service last year?

Did you guys notice they have a new program where you can pre-purchase Nav discs up to 3 years for cheaper than upgrading every year, they send you the new nav disc as they come out for the next 3 years, cool.

5 year old nav disc is not exactly recent, I would go for it if I were you.

I would recommend upgrading every other year or every third year and waiting for the specials. I've been cool with this schedule traveling in the southwest USA (not a lot of new roads).

Anyone know how up to date the 2013 release actually is? The data in my 2009 RDX was a few years old when I bought it. For example, the road work around the 880/80/580 exchange was completed years before and it wasn't updated in my nav unit. I took a trip shortly after I bought my RDX and the nav missed exits on major freeways (e.g., 80). I'd done the same trip before so it wasn't an issue as I knew the route, but I haven't trusted my nav for anything other than telling me where I am since. (add line break, doesn't work!) The Google Maps in my phone beats the integrated nav system by a wide margin. Also, I get traffic and don't have to pay an extra XM Sirius for an extra service. I actually signed up for XM Sirius + traffic, but XM Sirius couldn't or wouldn't send the code to activate my radio for 2 months so I had to cancel. (add line break, doesn't work!) I figure my 2009 nav data was circa 2006. So, is the 2012 nav data current to 2009 (year I bought of my RDX)?

Our other car is a 2013 Mazda CX-5 with the TomTom based factory nav. I just pop out an SD card that resides in-dash. Do a update via my laptop and viola! I pay $27 a year and can update once a quarter (4 updates a year). VERY reasonable and the SD based updates I love for a factory system.
I'll probably spring for the 2013 though now since ours is an '08 and if the roads are two years old (which they must be because our house was built in 2006 and doesn't show up on the '08 nav) then it will at least finally show our house for HOME!

I am ready to spring for the update. Bought my 2009 TSX in August of 2008 so maps are probably 4 years old by now at least. I did see the "deal" today for multi-year upgrades. I will probably go for only 1 and make it last for the next 2 or three years until I trade the car. These discs are a huge rip-off. I agree with others that buying a Garmin with life-time updates for the same or less money is a much better deal. I did that for my 350Z and sent my old Garmin to my pick-up truck. The new Garmin also came with traffic info. I just update it on line with my Mac every now and then. Easy and intuitive. No more factory navigation systems for me.

Former 07 RDX Tech owner
My main concern is performance. The UI has never been quick, but when I upgraded from my original disk in my '07 to the '12 disc it got a lot slower - to the point that I'm thinking of forgoing all of the street updates and switch back to my '07 disc.
If I scroll through the list it can take upwards of a minute to show me the address of the entry (it used to take 5 seconds or so which is painful, but a minute is pretty much worthless). If I click on an entry it can take another minute to offer me the "Go, call, etc." options. By that time, I can just about figure out my own way using other means.
Has anyone else seen these problems with the more recent discs? Could this be a bad disc or was the '12 out of the ordinary and I might do better by getting a new disc even if it has only been a year?

You can copy just about anything, if you have the right equipment and skills. But if your going to go through that much trouble you might as well just buy the disk. After-all, in the '08 RDX it stays in the car and gets used everytime you push that "accept" button.

I bought one on flea bay. The seller was from Jersey or New York. I think he was getting them from salvage hurricane cars and then selling them. He started at like $50 and I missed those, but he has been steady at $99 shipped (that's what I bought at). Frankie's Auctions I think is the user name. My ebay history doesn't show past 60 days and he didn't leave me feedback.
