Biggest Issue IMO: TapaTalk is NOT good for forum traffic as they tend to get the traffic counts/take credit for traffic through their system, not your forum - therefore you lose traffic counts, and on a national forum that means dollars and cents into advertising dollars. There are several examples I could give you...but thats a big negative.
Other Issues: TapaTalk ignores ALL forum add ons, meaning if you have restrictions set up, registration add ons or security measures, TapaTalk ignores them ALL. Meaning you are just as vulnerable to troll attacks, spamming, ect as the out of the box vbulletin product - somewhat even more.
TapaTalk is a double edged sword greatly. I used it because frankly I am not in the social networking forum money making business so traffic counts are not as important to me as getting more members active on the forum...so in my case it doesnt matter greatly...but on a national forum....I would NEVER use this ap as its counter productive to many of your goals.
Another example....Tapatalk hosts images. Do you know how much I cringe everytime I see a tapatalk hosted image? The more that happens...the more they embed themselves into your forum - meaning dump the program...suddenly lose site content at the same time. So one has a tendency to want to change all those links to local site hosting (in my case) so that cannot occur.
In all honesty...TapaTalk is not a good thing for most forums...its just most forum owners have not fully considered the pros and cons therein. Astro obviously has researched the issue and prob found many of the same...plus more....issues that would not make that a good fit.
And the way this forum is set up and the overall scale of the forum itself (size and traffic)....a mobil ap is gonna be mega expensive, trust me. Could be wrong on that last one...but am doubting it. Looked into it myself and comparatively is was HUGE cost wise to have developed and I have a forum that is in peewee leagues in comparison to this one. lolol Local vs National / Small vs Big
Bottom Line: IMO TapaTalk is a wolf in sheeps clothing appearing on the outset to be a wonderful thing but in fact...greatly a traffic pirate and in such you lose some control if that makes any sense...which can be a negative thing on a forum this large.

I have resigned myself to just be satisfied with searching AZ on a computer when possible. Is a mobile solution still in the works? It just isn't phone-friendly in its current state, even on my phone's friggin huge screen (Galaxy Nexus). Sucked even worse on my iPhone.

How do you do this??
- Simple: Go to the site SearchAZ in safari
- click the add bookmark button
- Add to Home Screen
- Rename to whatever you like, I suggest SEARCHAZ (fits perfectly)
- Click add and youre done

Thanks, appreciate the work you're putting in... but I no longer have an iPhone

Forum Runner!
I made a thread about Forum Runner a while back but it had no hits.
http://www.forumrunner.net/
It's free to install on the VBulletin software.. I'm currently using it with this other private message board that I'm a part of and it's awesome.
The client is free for the iOS and the Android platforms (but with ADs of course). I paid 2 bucks for the one without ADs and I love it.
Please consider it! It shouldn't be hard at all to install from the server end.

Half-Life 3 will come out before Acurazine has a mobile app/mobile site (as of this typing)
methinks its harder to load ads on a mobile app is one of the big reasons. I remember AZ had a mobile site for a brief period....

Half of my posts on this site were from mobile. Hell I'm using my.phone right now.
4G is pretty quick. Where as an app will probably have some kinks and force close at first, I have no problem using mobile internet.

It's not a matter of speed. The speed is just fine over 4G, even 3G isn't that bad. It's the layout/aspect ratio that sucks.
The only time I don't mind using AZ on anything but a desktop/laptop is on a tablet.... that doesn't really count.
It's like using Netscape Navigator when there's Chrome and Mozilla. Better than nothing, but how much better....

Not to sound like a hipster but I remember back when there was AZ's mobile site.... quite an improvement over using the regular site on a phone.

lame, the site works fine on mobile for me btw. The only thing i dont like doing is typing up stuff in the reply box. My phone zooms in and just typing out stuff is weird. Especially if you have a lengthy response.
