Not just AWD, but Super-Handling AWD...

Definitely a car I'd buy if I was in the market for that tier of vehicle.

If I had $55K to spend on a car, I can think of MANY others I would buy before this. This car requires you to have goofy pants and a fat ass, cuz it looks like it would appeal to the middle-aged golfer type. Lackin style and power. Dumb. Flagship car? or fagship car? yeah, thats right, i said it

Have you driven the RL or some of the other cars you mentioned?

The best selling lux car around is the LS 430 and it is nothing too special to look at. Yet I love that car because of what Lexus offers in way of refinement. That is the same approach Acura has taken with the RL. No, the looks are not as striking as my TL's or as in your face as the new 5 series. Yet Acura has done a masterful job in the details.

Acura is playing catch up in an area it created in '86 when no other lux name plate came from Japan. To that end Acura is doing good.

And as for the middle-aged golfer type, well that's who buys a Lexus LS or GS for tht matter. I can even throw in the Caddy STS, Benz S-Class, etc.

The most beautiful car you can buy, Jag XJ, isn't selling for a variety of reasons (one of which is the "I can't tell it's new" styling). Also, the RL is the flag ship for the moment. If and when Acura decides to offer a larger sedan then the RL will lead the fight against the E's, 5's, A6's, M's, GS's, STS, and S-Types of the world.

Oh yea, I forgot. Some business deals are done playing golf or treating a client to a very nice (read: expensive) lunch.

Have you seen this car in person? It's actually really small. A lot smaller than you'd imagine from the pictures. It's my type of car because it's NOT big and heavy looking as most grandpa luxury cars out there.

Love It!

I really like the looks! I am not a ground effect guy either, I think Acura has done a very tasteful job on both the A-Spec RL, TSX and TL.

God I wish my front brembos on my TL looked like that!

Acura debuted its A-SPEC program back in 2002 and is offered as an upgrade for the TL, TSX, and RSX. The program is lead by Makoto Tamamura of Honda Access Corporation, the developer of the chassis and suspension for the NSX supercar. The goal of the A-SPEC program is to provide complete dealer-installed accessory packages that highlight Acura's high performance image and conform to Acura's exacting quality standards.

The new RL, which was released late last year, has already won several industry awards and set monthly sales records since it's introduction. The new A-SPEC concept shows that Acura is able to even improve the RL further by making the exterior more aggressive, dramatically improving the handling, and enhancing the interior to make it even more beautiful. The RL A-SPEC concept is meant to be a design model to explore the next level of A-SPEC performance accessories for Acura's flagship sedan.

The RL A-SPEC concept is one inch wider and the track has been widened 30mm over the standard RL. This is combined with custom 20-inch alloy wheels, and high performance Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40 R20 tires that lend to the aggressive appearance of the car. The RL A-SPEC concept is 1-inch lower thanks to the inclusion of a high performance suspension package with track-tuned shocks and springs. Brembo brake components on all four wheels feature 8-piston calipers and 15-inch drilled rotors. These features combined with the standard SH-AWD should help to give the RL A-SPEC concept amazing handling and stopping power.

One of the most noticeable enhancements is the redesigned front fascia, which includes a newly designed bumper, a bold new grille and larger lower air intakes. The rear of the car was also improved upon with a restyled trunk lid that includes an integrated spoiler. A new rear bumper featuring pairs of dual, high-flow exhaust finishers has also been included. Other exterior enhancements include wide fender flares, restyled rocker panels and side sills.

The interior of the RL A-SPEC concept features custom hand-stitched premium leather on the seats, instrument panel, and door panels. That is combined with a two-tone Alcantara headliner and blonde Birchwood accents and a wood sport steering wheel and shift knob that creates one of the most appealing interiors we have seen.

Be sure to check back for more updates on the RL A-SPEC and other Acura related news.

Angry All Flash And No Extra Go

It seems to me that most of the responses are only interested in looks and fluff. How about putting that 5/7k into a s/c like in the TS. Is any one doing this with the 3.5 engine?
I recently moved from BMW interests to the RL, and I have not read anything technical about improving the performance of this vehicle so far.

RL'S ARE sweet but the tan interior is absolutely hideous.... u can only make so many different designs before one car looks like the next.... but i would never buy GM, FORD or dodge, all horrible IMO incomparison to Acura, honda

For the record, upon seeing pics of the revised '09 RL - the rear end looks great, the front not so much.

Ehhh. Nothing to rave about. I wouldn't mind having one; don't get me wrong, but it's not my preferred style.
