Transmission fluid change 3x3, how many quarts?

So...information about the ZDX, in general, is somewhat limited.

To perform a 3x3 transmission fluid change on the ZDX how many quarts do you need? 10 or 12 of Honda ATF DW1? The ZDX is essentially an MDX (right?) So I can just follow the procedures on how to do it on an 2010-2013 MDX for most maintenance (oil changes/transmission fluid/brake fluids, etc) and use the same torque specs?

Maintenance manual info. Just plug in year and model, there is ample info: Acura Vehicle Information | Select Your Model | Acura Owners Site

Well, I think that there may be ZF1 in there right now...Normally I would just do a single drain at each oil change but I want it to be the synthetic DW1. Should I 3x3 it or single drain it (thus mixing ZF1 and DW1) over a longer period?

Personally, I would do the 3x3 because mixing the two does deplete the performance advantages of the DW1.

You’ll get approximately an 80% flush with the 3x3, and then continue with the trans pan drain & DW1 refill every oil change.

Changing transmission fluid drain and fill on ZDX

Here’s a step by step video I made for the Acura ZDX transmission fluid change. Check out my channel if you also need to change the transfer case fluid and rear differential fluid on the ZDX.

Thanks! I'll flush my transmission as soon as my 12 bottles of ATF DW-1 arrives and I will look into your other videos as well. I've had the ZDX för less than a week now.
Any particular reason you chose to remove the fill plug instead of just add fluid through the dipstick?

Any way to find out if I need to change the transfer fluid and read diff fluid? I will flush the tranny due to the RPM fluctuating and I have a slight feeling that the clutch slip under load. From what I can see in my cars book the tranny fluid was changed the last time for eight years ago or so...

Hi, Filling the transmission fluid through the dip stick would work too. Only reason I fill through the fill port is because I don’t have a small enough funnel in my garage. I have too many tools in my garage and hesitant to purchase another funnel due to lack of space. The fill port is much larger than the dip stick tube and I have funnels that fit the larger fill port.

Since you recently purchased your ZDX, you should probably change the transfer case fluid and rear differential fluid too. Acura dealerships sometimes have access to service info that has been done to your car. Maybe your local Acura dealership service center can pull up that information to see what services the previous owners have done in the past.
