Thinking about looking at NA2s. Anything specific to NA2s I need to look at outside of the usual used car stuff? I know to look for signs of abuse, crashes, repaint, etc.. I am referring specifically to model specific issues.

Not interested in NA1 right now.

Are you looking for an NA2 (97-01) or a NA2 (2002-2005)? Nothing really to look out for in those models. Have a dealership complete a PPI and also see if the previous owner had the timing belt/water pump completed. If you can't find record of that, complete it right away.

I'm thinking of later NA2, though I wouldn't object to the earlier NA2 with a good enough car for a good enough price. My dream would be a Monaco Blue 5MT, but those are rare and expensive.

I'm just in the early stages of thought process.

Well NA2 will not get you a 5MT You'll get the newer 6-speed. Like Synth said, make sure timing belt/water pump has been done within 7 years and it has documentation to support it. Otherwise plan on setting aside some extra cash to get it taken care of.

NA2 starts in 97, with the change to the 3.2/ 6 speed. 2002 eliminated the pop-up headlights.

NA1- 5 speed 3.0 engine 91-96
NA2 6 speed 3.2 engine 97-2005

Most of the rare colors are going to be very hard to find at this point. If you do find monoco blue pop up, jump on it as the odds of another one coming to the market is going to be very slim.

Just to add: any car with the 3.0 is NA1. That includes cars newer than 96 with an automatic transmission. They never fitted an auto to the 3.2.

I have a 97 NSX. I don't think there is anything unique or special to worry about an NA2 when evaluating one. I happen to prefer the 97-2001 versions. The 2002+ cars have exposed headlights and a cosmetic body kit. I am not aware of any issues with 97 NA2 - the first year of the 3.2L and 6 speed manual. My car has a bit over 75K miles and I put 50K of those on since I bought the car in 2006. Outstanding reliability.

Thanks for the help and clarifications. I am a :noob: . I honestly don't expect to make the purchase this year, unless a miracle happens and I find one that is in decent condition for a decent price...one that must be immediately jumped upon. NSX is the only car I'd give up my S2000 for.

V wagon is going nowhere for the foreseeable future. I have received several serious inquiries for it, and have declined all. Maybe I'm making a mistake? The only plan for Beastwagon is to get a good paint correction and detailing done in the spring, then it goes back to being my daily driver.

Good luck on the NSX search. I have been debating on my dumping my stook as well. Hasn't been driven in about 30 months. Sitting there collecting dust.But the only thing that itches my fancy is an Atom or a 3 wheeler Morgan.

Knowing me, I'll probably change my mind about the NSX thing once I pull my S2000 out of winter storage and hit 9k a few times. That never, ever becomes tiresome. We'll see, though....if the right NSX falls from the sky I may simply do it.

If anyone is serious about an NSX, might be a good idea to get one sooner then later. Prices seem to have been going up the last few years. Not sure if this will continue or not.. but we'll see....

Yup had a spa yellow AP1, now have rio yellow ap2. Elise is red, should have ordered it in Saffron Yellow.

I saw your other TL/NSX pic on the other thread. GORGEOUS pic, that would be my ideal NSX, till the 02+ yellow/yellow came out

After 165K miles of hitting 9k, the car got tired. It also looked dated. My 07 doesn't hit 9k, but I am ok with that

I have noticed that. High-mileage NA1s are in the $30k's now for asking prices. I certainly may have missed the nadir of the market and now people are paying attention to the NSX because of the upcoming Version 2.

I also think that because the 2G NSX is out of reach for all ordinary people, folks like me who want an NSX are paying more attention to well-kept stock 1G NSXs. I can (barely )afford a car payment on $150k, but my son's education and my retirement are more important.

We'll see what pops up when people are pulling their NSXs out for the season. If it's anything like what's going on in S2000 world in the last year (people asking, and sometimes receiving, top dollar for crap), then I will likely pass.

I have been on NSX prime with Lude for almost 13 years. $30k as the floor has been there a while for something like a decent driver with a decent history.

Good ones are still out there, as long as you are patient, and know where to look.


Of course you can buy a $20K NSX in Los Angeles all day long, but those are cars, Bob, you and I wouldn't touch with a 10 feet pole.

Just drop the 150K and get the NSX, Doc. Even paying for retirement and your kids school (I got two 529s myself), you can probably afford a 458. So look at the bright side. You are saving 100K, by getting a new NSX

Price for the new nsx starts at 150k. When it's all said and done, I think we're talking about a 200k car from Honda. It will be interesting to see what happens after year 1.

OK, I saw a tastefully modded 2001 on NSX Prime down in Georgia, in my second choice color scheme (silver/onyx). That is causing the NSX bug to bite, and HARD. He's asking $68k obo for it. I'd have to sell both my (long paid off) S2000 and my (also long paid off) V wagon to make it happen without taking on new debt. For now, keeping my hand away from my wallet......until I get over this paroxysm of "this doesn't quite make financial sense"....

However, if I'm shelling out $90k for an old NSX (and I won't) I'm going to DRIVE IT, not collect it. It's an absolute travesty that the car was not driven.



For $90k, I can buy a brand new 2016 CTS-V with the latest tech gadgets, 650 hp, and some options.

OMG, I may have found THE one, quite by accident, and within a reasonable drive from me so I can go look before paying. Spoke with the owner today. Yellow/black (another NSX color combo I like), 2000 NSX-T 6MT, only 38k miles, and actually reasonably priced! It's time to put the S2000 on the market.....though I may have to nab this car quickly, long before the S2 sells.

Someone talk me out of this. Not.

As long as the paint is all original and maintenance is up to date (including the pricey timing belt replacement), go for it. Oh, and make sure the seats aren't showing excessive wear. The bolsters take a beating in the NSX.

Is it modified or stock? I'm hoping stock... They're best that way

The one I found is completely stock. No timing belt done yet, but I have factored that into the price asked. It's a US model previously imported to Toronto, never converted to Canadian spec (so still with US speedo) other than to loosely attach a DRL. If I do this, it should be easy to drive it back across the border; the seller has the original documents proving U.S. origin.

Why not keep the S2000? Because I don't want the upkeep of five cars, and one has to go. I'm going to miss it, too. If I were closer to the end of the lease on my RLX--I'm one year in--I'd probably just keep the S2000 and daily my CTS-V wagon year-round again.

Yes, the addition of DRLs is a fairly easy addition, but I do believe it requires cutting into the factory harness. I wouldn't sweat to much about it though. That's something that can't even be seen.

I'd venture a guess that the car is a US model also (without even looking into it, that is). Very very very little NSXs were sold in Canada after 1998. I've heard of quite a few of them making their way up from the US to Canada though, especially when the dollars were on par with one another. Pretty much all of them retained the original gauges too, instead of switching to km/h. It's not worth it. New gauges are super pricey and you'd lose the odometer reading too.

While the s2000 is a brilliant car, I too would sell it in favor of a pristine NSX. Plus, you can pull the targa off and still get that top down feeling

Cannot stress this enough. The car & seats are so low that it take some acrobatics to get in and out of. The bolsters take quite a bit of roughage in the process and will go bad (both in terms of ripping and being worn out faster than the rest of the seat).

Even if it doesn't work out, I've got time and I've got my paid off S2000.

As part of my due diligence, I called my dealer today to ask how much they charge for the timing belt/water pump service. They have a guy specially trained to take care of NSXs and he is (by word of mouth) very good. The dealer charges $1800. I paid about $700 (on sale) for our old Pilot's timing belt/water pump service at the Honda dealer. This car is obviously much more expensive to maintain than a S2000....but I already knew that....

It didn't work out. The guy changed his mind about selling. With a car like that, I'd understand. He was a legit seller, familiar to NSXCC members, and a no-stories car.

There's one other car in New Jersey that I'm looking at as well, in silver, so the hunt is not yet over.

We'll see.
