Type S rims question
Hi, Im new here.
Just got a 2013 ILX, want to put some different rims on her. Wondering if anybody has the TL-S rims on, the 10 spoke dark ones. Thinking of picking some up for cheap. Also if I go 18 instead of 17, does anyone have tire size suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums and hope you are enjoying your 2013 ILX. Which color and trim did you pick up? I went with the Polished Metal Metallic from the 2013 line, I love it.
To answer your questions. I believe the TL-S honeycomb style wheels in gunmetal are 5x114. If so then yes they will fit our ILX.
I believe they are 17in though incase you did want to go larger. They are wider for sure though. Maybe 8in...? I dont even really know honestly.
As for tire size, you have a few options you can choose from that really comes down to preference.
If you want to stick close to oem spec I would go either 225 for some extra track or stay 215. For the 18in wheel Id go with a 40 series side wall. This will make it so your car stays the same height with the new wheel set up.
Hope that all helps.
Lastly, just a pet peeve I have. Don't call them rims. The rim is a specific part of a wheel and rap videos have done a poor job educating the public. LOL Just call them wheels.
If you are further curious about wheel sizes you can check out my set up. They are 18x8 with 225/40 tires. It's a pretty conservative set up but still an inch larger and wider. Take care!

OP - Justin is correct the Type S "waffles" are in fact 17x8 with a +45 offset. OEM size tire on these rims is/was 235/45/17, but don't know how this will fit on the ILX in terms of rubbing.
usdmJON - This might be vocabulary or nomenclature but to me the rims are the round metal things you bolt on to the car and wear the tires. The tires are the black round rubber items which keep your car on the road and go on the rims. The wheels are the tires and rims combined. At least this is how I have always referred to them and am really hoping we are not depending on rap videos to educate people on anything............

Thanks guys. I'll put some pictures up when I get home. Just got her tinted 20% all around, Tein springs are waiting at the house to be put on, got some leds for the license plate and a drop in k&n so far. Bought it used so i'm not sure of the package level or type of silver that it is.

Oh great. I did not mean to thread jack but here goes.
Im not going to sit here and say my termonology is 100% and yours is wrong. But I went through auto class understanding the rim as part of the wheel. I was never informed of a term that means wheel + tire. It's just a wheel with tires mounted.
Best break down I could find. The rim is a specific part of the lip of the wheel. That's how I see it and that is how I was taught.
I tried to make it clear that was just a personal pet peeve of mine.

With the 2013 you have 2 choices of silver or "grey". There was a lighter version called Silver Moon and a darker gunmetal called Polished Metal Metallic which you can see in my avatar picture.
Mods so far sound promising. Your drop will be just a TAD higher than my H&R springs gave me with the Teins. Similar to the Eibach spring height.
20% is what I originally had al around on my ILX. Got a couple tickets and now its 20% in the rear only.
LED plate lights should update the rear look of the car. It was a must for me. Maybe check out the LED reverse lights as well to match the LED lights you picked up already.
We can help you figure out which trim level it is.
First... is it a manual or auto?
If it's manual it's a 2.4 and probably a premium unless you live in Canada and can get the 2.4 dynamic. If it is an auto it may be a base, premium, or tech.
Do you have fog lights? How about navigation? That will help determine which trim level you picked up.
Id be really interested to see an ILX on TL-S wheels non photoshopped. I think that would look great. Not an upgrade in diameter but as Justin confirmed, it's an upgrade in width for sure.

Yeah, haven't even had it for a week yet, lol. I was looking at the reverse leds but read that some are too big to fit and didn't want to get the wrong ones. Have some Nokya yellow fog bulbs laying around when I had my FA5 but think I wanna do leds there, too.
Its the lighter version silver than yours. Automatic 2.0, has fogs, sunroof, spoiler, no navigation.
Does anybody have pics photo shopped with the waffles on the ILX? I cant seem to find any. I can get the 17s for 380, so I figured if I didn't like them, the wife could put them on her civic.

Also, if you aren't hot to them you can keep them as your winter beaters and sell the 17 ilx wheels.

If you have the 2.0 with fogs and no navigation then you have the 2.0 Premium in Silver Moon. Good options. Glad I choose that ILX for the chop since it has a spoiler but it is a hybrid ILX so it may be the wrong spoiler.
I say sell those since Id personally keep the TL-S waffles over the stock ILX wheels anyday. For 400 bucks shit Id even consider picking them up as beaters.
Stretch the tires from your ILX 17x7 onto the TL-S 18x8s. Boom.

Actually I just realized the wheels that were on the Silver Moon ILX originally were only 16in base wheels. Meaning the TL-S waffles will look SLIGHTLY larger than in the picture I chopped because I made them the same size as the 16in wheels.
Glad we could help. 225/40 will work great on those wheels. Can't wait to see the waffles on your ILX instead of my chop. Ive been wanting to see those wheels on an ILX for a while now and many times considered them myself.

So, I got the springs in without too much of a problem. only one axle popped out. No biggie. But, the tl-s wheels fell thru. I mean, I could still get some, but I started looking around a bit and i'm down to 2 choices. 18 BBS SR or Enkei M52 in 18 as well. Or maybe something else, too many choices.
#23
If they are AUTHENTIC BBS, then go for it. IMO, since our stock wheels are already made by Enkei, its not that awesome of an upgrade to just get some Enkeis (unless this was an SI and you were going for some RPF1's with performance as your main concern). Id say go for a legit looks, size, and quality improvement, not just slightly cooler. Like people getting reps, saying "oh its the same shit"... RIIIIIGGGGHHHT.... Thats why there are multiple threads on broken rep wheels even just recently withi just the ILX forum.... Wheels can make or break the looks of the car, don't get impatient, shop smart dude.

I like the BBS over the enkei. Both very similar designs but I like hub section where the lug nuts sit on the BBS more. The BBS almost just look like more refined versions of the enkeis.
So people can see them...

I looked up the wheel weights, and interestingly, the Enkei's are actually lighter. However I think the BBS look nicer, and its considered more of a premium brand. You'll get more looks /compliments from the BBS. I know somebody is gonna say who cares about that, but thats like girls that say they do their makeup to make themselves feel better, not attract guys.... RIGGGGHT..... Why not just do both at the same time? I mean get compliments and looks and upgrade wheels of course.

I actually like the BBS rims better too.

I would check into how both were made if weight is a factor. The enkei may weigh less but not be as strong.
I like the look of the bbs. They just sort of look finished where as the enkeis look kinda bland.

+48mm offset is safe and conservative, +38mm would be flush.

I assume what Ron has said is on a stock height suspension.
If you lower the car without purchasing a camber kit and adjusting camber to 0 then the bottom of the wheel will actually poke and the top will tuck.
If you lower the car and zero out the camber then it will once again be as flush as rondog is saying.
Just some info so someone lower does get confused why its not as flush as in those pics.

I'm a little confused on this thread. 07-08 TL-S gun metal rims are 18" in size, not 17, with tire size of 235/40-18. I have the 08 non Type S and my stock wheels are 235/45-17

07 and 08 TL Type S came with 17 x 8" rims often referred to as "waffles" because of how the design mimics a waffle design. Standard tire size is/was 235/45/17.
Acura had/has optional 18 x 8" A-Spec rims that came in I believe five different colors. In 2004 Acura had 18 x 8.5" A-Spec rims that only came in a gunmetal color. These were only available in 2004 and only in the gunmetal color.
Whether you had the 8" or 8.5" A-Spec rims the standard tire size was 235/40/18 as you mention above.
Hope this helps clear your confusion -
