So this morning was my first time driving my 2016 A-SPEC w/ Tech Plus after having some frost on my windows and the blind spot warning and front brake assist both gave me a warning message on the dash because of the frost. Once it finally melted, both of the lights finally went off. It's gonna be a fun winter! I knew I should have just gone with the regular A-SPEC...
I am curious to know if anyone with low profile tires ever survived the winter with no damage to the rims? I wanted to buy rims and tires for the winter to not risk my A-spec rims but cant offer it right now. the 18" look pretty low to the ground, it's becoming worrisome.

My budget is pretty tight right now i would love some extra rims and tires for the winter but its not gonna happen. Just curious if anyone survived the winter with low pro tires like the A spec with no damage to the rim?
I'm not even going to risk it in mine. Syracuse winters are friggin harsh. I have a set of 16" steelies laying around so I'm going to see if they'll fit on the 2016 and if so I'm going to just order new snow tires for them. If not... then sadly I'll be ordering a new set of 17" steelies and snow tires.
I'm in the same boat as you though... pretty strapped on cash and have to buy a new snowmobile trailer, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do. That's why credit cards exist.
I live in Metro Detroit area and I too am really worried that if a-spec rims will survive.. Michigan potholes are quite notorious. I was only going to get a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 tires, but now I see this I am really worried. I am a student so I am poor lol Any advice? Suggestions?
I was thinking of plasti dip? To help protect from the salt. dip it in black matt. And at the end of the winter i can peal the dip off. A can of plasti dip spray only cost 10 bucks that might be the best ten buck that can help save my rimz

No, I understood what you meant.
It all depends on what your local plows use for ice removal. Some chemicals will wreak havoc with your wheels.
The weather has little to do with low profile surviving the winter. Are the roads full of potholes or not? That bends wheels. Chemicals corrode wheels.
I have a spare set of winter wheels and tires (Michelin X-Ice IIRC) from a 2013 Civic if somebody needs a cheap set - Metro DC Area only

Sorry man, haven't even tried it yet. I've been so busy and the weather has been in the 60's and 70's here so I haven't been too concerned about snow tires yet.
I'll definitely post on here though once I do try them out.
Hey Waldo87, I'm curious if the 16" wheels will fit on a 2016 ILX because I called an Acura dealership and was told it would fit but when I called this same dealership another guy told me they won't fit because of the changes in the 2016 model, the brake calipers will rub and also traction control can't be turned off if you don't install TPMS. Not sure if the dealership can be trusted as I get two different answers from the same dealership.

That's the main thing I'm worried about... the calipers being too large on the 2016's for 16" wheels to fit it. If I find time this weekend I'll head to my parents and see if they fit.
As far as the traction control goes, that is true. I had the issue with my 2013 TSX. I didn't have TPMS sensors on my winter wheels/tires so obviously my TPMS light stayed on the entire time and due to that, I couldn't turn off my traction control... which I hated! I hate driving in the snow with the traction control on. It kills so much momentum when you really need it, but whatever... I'm never going to pay extra for sensors and have to take it into the dealership to get them configured each time I change my wheels.
I don't know about the ILX but on my previous 09 and 2012 TSX I ran snows on aftermarket wheels With TPMS sensors and didn't have to go to the dealer when I mounted the wheels. the TPMS system automatically recognized the new sensors. This was after I had been told by the dealer that I would have to bring the car to them to reprogram. Sometimes you have to wonder what the dealers really know.
Soooo I called my dad tonight and apparently he gave away my wheels to one of his co-workers and figured I wouldn't mind since they weren't being used. Of course he didn't want to share that information until now... So I guess I won't be the one testing this out.
I am going with 205/50/17 with Michelin X-Ice i3. The difference in cost between the final cost for 16 & 17 steelies was only $30. The tire shop guy had doubt if the 16s will fit or not. So going with the 17s. Did any of you guys go with TPMS sensors? Decided not to go with them as the shop guy said price would be much higher.
I know winter this year will not be as bad as previous years, but I still went for winter tires and wheels. Since I do a lot of highway driving and Michigan (Metro Detroit Area) does pretty good job with snow removal, I went with Hankook Icept Evo2 (performance winter). I minus sized my wheel (from 18 to 17), so I am running 215/45R17 tires.
I put on some Michelin x ice on all 4, did not change the wheel, kept the Aspec wheels. Today we have some icy winter weather mix in NY which gave me a chance to see how the ilx handles in these winter conditions. I am proud to say the ilx took on the road like a champ! even tho it is not AWD, the FWD did a good job. I was going up hill and taking curves with a soild feel. I am coming off a 2003 Cadillac CTS with RWD that loved to fish tail in the ice or slush, so for me, this is a great feeling.
I just bought my 2013 ILX 2.4 Prem. I live in Minneapolis and we *finally* got snow. I came from a Saab 9-3 which is bigger, heavier and handled snow quite well. This car with the right tires I think could do it too, but it is lower to the ground. All in all I think I will be investing in a set of 16" steel wheels and snow tires in the near future.
Hey guys, so after a few KMs with my winters the TPMS came on today. I can't find a way to reset it. Does anyone know if thats even possible on the 2016? Or am i stuck with it until I change over to my summers?
I dont think you can turn off the TPMS warning. You either install sensors on your winter wheels or live with the warning sign until you change over to summer wheels.

You cannot turn off your warning. In addition, you'll also have issues with a variety of electronic nannies built into the car which will be affected by not having a fully functional TPMS system.
Does anyone else know if a 2014 Acura ILX 205/55/16 winter tire/steelies will fit the 2016 model?
Not sure if anyone has tried already but im anxious to know if it will fit.
I just traded in my 2014 ILX for a 2017. I can confirm that the 16" steel winter rims will touch the caliper (it moves but you can hear it touching when you rotate the tire). I'm looking into whether or not I can get rims with more offset to see if that will fix the problem.
