Air Bag Question

I recently purchased a 2016 ILX Premium Package, and I just noticed that the Passenger Air Bag Off light (on the right of the info screen) never turns on, even when there is no one in the passenger seat. Is this normal? Or do I have a defective sensor?

Just curious if anyone else has noticed this... I suppose having the airbag always on is better than the opposite haha.

I believe it turns on when there is weight on the seat, but the weight does not match up to an adult (or at least a kid old enough to warrant an airbag going off). Little ones aren't supposed to have a bag thrown in their face i guess....

For instance when i put my loaded gym bag on the passenger seat the Air Bag Off light turns on. Take it out of the car and it's off, wife sits on the seat it's off, etc.

So basically, if my light never ever turns on, then there might be an issue with my air bag?

I did drive the 2016 ILX several times, and never noticed an airbag light... Which info screen are you talking about? The main backup camera screen, the touch screen, or the small screen in the dash? I don't particularly remember an airbag light being on at all on my 2013 or 2015 and 2016 loaner ILX's, and that's the kind of thing I usually notice... Check your manual to see if it's supposed to be on.

It's probably working fine. Trust me I see mine on and off all the time. My Gym bag probably weighs 15lbs, which is not enough for the system to turn the air bag on, so the "off" light comes on. If your seat is completely empty, or has like 5lbs or less the air bag will be "on". Try putting something in the 15-25lb range on the passenger seat and drive around for a minute, Should turn off

It's to the right of the information screen, which is where the navigation would be. Above the touchscreen. The "off" light never comes on, even when the seat is empty, which means the airbag is always on. It was just weird to me that the light never toggles, so I wanted to see if anyone else noticed something similar. I guess I'll ask about it at my next maintenance.

it's normal. The way it works is it stays off until there is like 15+ lbs on it. It will stay on until about 80-90 lb then it'll turn back off.

Try putting a bag about 20-30 lbs on the seat(distribute the weight evenly ) and it should make the light come on in about 30 seconds.

If there was a problem, you'd be getting a red SRS light on your instrument panel. Until that comes on, everything is fine.
