2016 ILX gas milage??
My father has been driving his 2016 ILX he bought about a month ago. He is complaining to me that the car seems to get really bad gas mileage. The computer is showing 19 mpg average. That combined with the fact that he had to fill up in two weeks from just driving to the local shopping centers a few times seem to confirm the low gas mileage.
I thought average should be closer to 25mpg in the city? Is it because it is still breaking in? Mind you my dad driving style used to get average of 35mpg out of his Civic LX.

So far I've logged 1500 miles and I'm averaging 28.1 combined. Pretty much 50/50 city/hwy.
If your dad is only getting 19 he must either have a lead foot or be driving in sport mode all the time. Or something is wrong with the car.

See if you can find the MID readout showing the Average Miles Per Hour. This typically resets with each fill up but will show you how fast his average speed is on a given tankful of fuel. I could see 19 MPG if the average speed is ~20 MPH or less. Also, remember that the motor will continue to break-in for the first 5000 miles or so, it should improve after that period.

He is coming by tomorrow. I will check over the info on the car. I believe it is not his driving style. But he does drive a lot of local with almost no highway at all.
I will keep do a milage vs gas added check manually for the next tank.

I mainly drive in town traveling to and from work about 7.5 miles one way. It's a lot of stop and go driving and my average speed is around 15-18 mph (even though I am going 30-40 most of the time). I too am getting about 18 mpg. I was worried until I read this thread.
Zen S14 I believe your father and I are driving the same way and because we are not traveling too far nor too fast it might seem like this is normal performance?

As Colin said MPG is tied to MPH.

Don't know why, but first time I read that I saw Meth, do you even?
Dad's engine is still being broken in and an avg 11 MPH isn't going to yield tremendous MPG.

Thats super low milage though. the 2016's DCT will normally keep the revs before 2000rpm so long as you drive normally. Anything higher then a 2000rpm shift point and your accelerating to hard making it go into a more aggressive mode.
I'm hard pressed to get anything less then 28mpg doing nothing but city driving here.

^^ I normally suggest to my clients that it's around 10% improvement once you'e past 5000 miles. Some of the older cars with the FRM cylinder walls took a little longer. Also, for those in colder climates, don't forget the effect of winter blends of fuel on your mileage, it will lower it from what I understand.
To the OP, 11MPH is pretty low, I think the MPG figure is good considering. FWIW, my fuel economy seems to follow my average MPH. With my '13 6-MT (different engine, I know), if I can get over 30 MPH, I'll do the same on MPG.

I reset the computer on Sunday. Next week I will see what the new average speed is.

Stop being a dick, I was simply stating that for me, the new ILX was getting what Acura describes as it's expected MPG. My around town mileage is almost right on for what Acura is advertising.

He wasn't being a dick, but that is a matter of opinion. What isn't opinion is that there are very few people (myself included) would understand your point based on what you posted.

this is the only information that will let others know how well they are doing.....
when you dont include your average MPH, your "city driving" could have no stop lights for 20 miles and your "city driving" would be a lot higher than someone who sits in traffic more.
so, third time asking.... whats your average MPH and average MPG based on the MID?

I made the mistake to not check the manual or the gas pump door for octane rating requirements and I've used my 2016 Acura ILX purely on Regular 87 octane gas, and while at times it did feel a bit jumpy during acceleration, in 6000 miles my average with some crazy, full throttle fun rides, normal city driving and highway driving, was 30.7mpg. I have reset the counter now since I realized I should be using Premium 91 octane gas and I started measuring millage. So far I have done about 80miles highway driving and 80 miles of city driving and I'm around 33.6mpg right now. I will report back once I have another 6000 miles combined driving on it whether the octane rating has a difference in millage for me.

16 SSM ILX Prem-Aspec
both these readings came after a 52 mile trip that was 90% highway, The 43.0 mpg was cruise control on 70mph and the 37.6mpg was going faster. not bad! my overall average that has not been reset i assume from 0 miles is 30.5mpg at 27mph average

Yeah! That is what I want!. First tank I got 265 miles with lows 20's MPG combined but I had the car in sport mode the whole time and was in stop and go traffic for 2-3 hours the first day I bought it killing my MPG. Second tank I probably will get 300+ miles and I am currently averaging 27 mpg. As mentioned what really determines your MPG is average speed for the most part. My average speed is like 26 MPH because sometimes I have really short trips around town plus I live in NYC where there always is a stop sign or traffic light. I am really interested to see what the car can do on a full tank on straight highway where my average speed in 50+ MPH. Hitting 36 MPG to 40 MPG would be awesome. I know average speed plays a huge roll since my 2016 RDX AWD while rated at 19-28 MPG maybe would get 19-20 MPG most times because my average speed again was in the 20's. With this being said there were plenty of times with my RDX I hit bellow 19 MPG and times on long trip 98% highway I got 30 MPG.
But to see the ILX get 7 pts MPG higher is really cool

I just returned from an 1800 mile round trip from New Jersey to Nashville TN with my 2016 Tech. According to the MID my mileage averaged between 39.8 and 41.9 all on premium gas. At each fillup I checked my mileage with the calculator on my Iphone. I filled the tank to the pump's auto shutoff point to keep things simple. Each time my actual average was from 1-2 MPG less than what the MID read. Unscientific as it may be, I'm still happy with the mileage. BTW I had 6200 miles on the car when I started the trip so I assume the engine was fairly well broken in.

I have the 2013 Manual 6 Speed....The most I have been able to squeeze out of my car was 43-MPG... On a really long drive....However... I have a lead foot... and Ultra high performance tires... SO... IF you invest in really nice High MPG eco tires... Its totally reasonable to me to see people able to squeeze out 45MPG (also using Premium gas and full synthetic motor oil, a good filter they both give better MPG's).... It depends on a lot of conditions... It's all about tipping the conditions to your favor...
I noticed for sure my MPG dropped with the tires.. but it was mostly due to my driving habits... I have since calmed down... I was getting like 23MPG city... but I was having fun and driving aggressive...I mostly get about 26-27MPG city now....Not terrible when the car is rated for 24MPG city and highway... I'd say about 32-34.... Mixed driving? realistically about 28-32... The city is definitely the MPG killer... And I also don't have a Hondata tune... which eventually I will do... I think I waste gas because there is rev hang... I have to kind of rev it / give it a bit more gas then it "should" need... when starting from a dead stop... Or else the car feels like it wants to stall out...
I rarely run the AC... When I do, it's full blast and it does drop a MPG a tiny bit...

When people tell me sometimes... "OH gas is gas.. I don't care..." or BLAH "Oil is Oil"... Well YEAH... if you are being a cheap ass overall with your car... you aren't going to see a bigger overall change like someone who does do all the little things that add up...

I have 2500 miles on my 2016 ILX. I live in NYC and a lot of city putting around. I average around mid twenties 25 MPG, which is the suggested city MPG. The ILX like any car is heavily influenced by your average speed. I recently went on some long trips to Philly and VA and not only got the suggested 36 MPG highway but even did 40 MPG when going straight highway cruising at 60-65 mph average speed 65 mph. As soon as I hit traffic and got back into my routine of short A to B trips in the Tri-State area my MPG plummeted. Point being I wouldn't be surprised is someone averaged the suggested MPG, I would be surprised if someone went bellow the suggested or even exceeded it. I guess the most surprising thing is that the ILX surpassed it's highway mpg rating of 36 mpg by 4 mpg on long straight highway strips while my previous car 2016 RDX AWD which was rated at 28 mpg highway would do 29 and change at best. Which in my shows us how the 8 speed DCT is so great.

Joseph, I agree with you about the variation between city and highway MPG. My 2016 Tech had about 6300 miles on it when I took a trip to Nashville in June. The trip computer showed I was getting from 40-42MPG between fill ups. Each time I filled the tank I checked the mileage with my calculator. The best I found was 38.2. it didn't surprise me that the trip computer was overly optimistic; I've seen this on 2 previous TSX's. Other people have observed the same on other makes of cars also. But 38.2 is still a great number and is probably due to the overdrive ratios in the 8DCT.
