'16 Civic vs. '16 ILX......Thoughts?

I have the 16 ILX and while I love it, I do think the Civic is obviously the better buy......seems like it has a lot of nice features, the body style is fresh/futuristic

it seems like Honda put more time into this model, as opposed to Acura.....ur getting more for ur money possibly, and they have a type r coming also

all in all I'm extremely happy with my 2016 ILX, it's a car I would own

just wanted to hear ur thoughts? (body style/ features)

I enjoy watching that video, I drive those same exact roads everyday. Even with the same black ILX!

Your looking into it too much. Both are compact 4 cylinder Japanese cars. It's like comparing wheel barrows, I wouldn't put a lot of time into it, they sure as hell didn't when they built them.

2017 at the earliest for the type R. Maybe even 2018. Civic is way better value, at lower trims. Civic has Honda Lane Assist Technology. Main other difference would be engine size, which the Acura RAPES the Civic on. Its like 60 more HP. Top trim ILX's offer way more tech and such, but that's not exactly "value " priced.

If you want "more" go ILX. If you want value, go Civic. Really, I'd suggest Accord over 2016 ILX. Depends on your needs.

I like having a smaller car for ease of parking and such, affects me everyday right now (home, work, and school). BUT an Accord/TSX size car is much more comfy, and I would NOT buy a car this size again in the future. I'd even be willing to give up stick shift later on. I would just keep the ILX or get a sports car as a weekend/ fun/backup car.

it would be nice if Acura released an update adding Android Auto and Carplay to the 16 ILX. Kinda ridiculous that a 16 Honda Civic has better tech than a 16 Acura ILX

Refreshes come so fast and furious nowadays, it's like watching a game of leap frog. I wasn't a fan of the first ILX, but thought the MMC ILX was good, Then comes along the 2016 Civc, which I think surpasses the ILX. I'm sure Acura is working on a new ILX built on the new 2016 Civic platform, and it will be even better.

I prefer manual transmissions. I also prefer exposed tailpipes unless I'm in a hybrid or EV. This pushes me into the Honda camp, but even the new Civic hides its dual exhausts.

For now the Civic is more exciting with a hatchback on the way, along with the Si and Type R versions. I'm not in the market for the Civic Si boy racer -- nothing wrong with boy racer looks. It's just that I'm not a boy anymore.

But I might be a Type R kinda' guy.

gtdrake, I've been trying to talk to you respectfully in the other thread regarding the ILX that your wife drives: https://acurazine.com/forums/acura-i...x-loud-937969/

Although, I haven't been able to get any other information out of you regarding what you "DO" enjoy driving, and why? We know you don't enjoy the Honda or Acura brand, but since you've been bashing every user in the forums regarding how stupid, idiot, and low lives we are for driving an ILX/TLX, I cannot take any of your comments seriously anymore. I would appreciate it you would kindly reply back to my response and answer some of our questions that we had kindly asked you so we could understand why you're so anti-honda/acura. What have you driven in the past besides the dumpser truck and some other vehicle that was much quieter than the ILX? I feel like if you cannot answer this to us, I just won't be able to read your posts seriously, and as a result your opinions our pointless because they have no validity.

Did Honda or Acura ever do anything to you that you have such hatred against it? Obviously the comment you made about them not putting enough time into the vehicle is stupid. Why? Because if they would be as stupid as you think, they wouldn't continue making these cars. Obviously they know what they are doing because people keep buying them from one generation to the next. If you feel like you're way better than a Honda or Acura driver, go buy yourself a "True Luxury" car like a Bentley and save your time and other peoples energy by feeling a bit happy about what you drive rather than waste other peoples times bashing what they drive. Thanks for understanding!

Sixers....I have to admit that the new Civic seems to offer a great package with a great price. If I had to buy one of the 2 options, I would be inclined to go on the Civic for the 2016 model year but it will be interesting to see what the updated ILX brings.

At the moment, the interior of the 2016 Civic looks more upscale in my opinion

That new Civic is awesome! I love the interior and it's 10,000 less than the ILX!

But that bigger engine doesn't translate into that much more go.

Car and Driver : ILX vs Civic

Zero to 60 mph: 6.6 sec vs 6.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 17.2 sec vs 17.7 sec
Zero to 120 mph: 28.5 sec vs 28.6 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 7.0 sec vs 7.5 sec
Top gear, 30-50 mph: 3.7 sec vs 3.9 sec
Top gear, 50-70 mph: 4.6 sec vs 4.9 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.2 sec @ 94 mph vs 15.3 sec @ 94 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 133 mph vs 126 mph
Braking, 70-0 mph: 184 ft vs 178 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.83 g vs 0.82 g

And the Civic Touring ($26,500) has just about every major feature the ILX w/tech ($33,000) has. Not a big difference from what I can see. Mainly small minor things, aside from ELS audio.

"Small minor things" like a dct vs a cvt, suspension components, interior materials... It looks like the Civic redesign will be a good driving appliance and deserves the enthusiasm it is garnering, but pump your breaks on the ILX is redundant hysteria. The two vehicles are very different driving experiences.

I agree the 16 civic is a better buy. But as you mentioned i would like to see what the next gen ilx would bring to the table being that it will be based on the new civic.

Oof, while I agree the Civic is a great value and sorta sad (although not surprising) that it trumps several of the Acura vehicles, including their own flagship (RLX) in terms of features, I cannot get on board with the exterior design of the new Civic. IMO its fugly. The rear especially is horrendous. Its almost as bad as the 09-11 4G TL.....

Where Honda is firing on all cylinders is in the 2016 Accord. Both the sedan and the coupe are stellar both in interior and exterior design. And again showing great value in features for the cost. Im seriously considering the new Accord once my RLX lease is up. I'm sorta fed up with the Honda/Acura strategy and just not seeing the long term value for the money they charge for their "luxury" brand when they simply arent providing enough differentiation between the two brands to warrant such higher prices. The 2+ years experience I've had with an early 2014 RLX advanced has not lived up to the cost of a $60k+ vehicle.

Not too hard to tell which one has a more attractive exterior design.Just dont get what they were trying to do with the Civic. To me it looks too much like the Honda Crosstour, which IMO is by far one of the fugliest cars ever made.

The entire design doesnt look cohesive at all. The front, middle and rear section all look like they came from three completely different vehicle designs just stiched together in a mad dash of rushed product release. No cohesive flow at all.

I didn't like the look of the CrossTour (nor the ZDX), but I have to see the Civic in person. The CrossTour was ugly to me because it was jacked up. The Civic, being lower to the ground, could wear the fastback profile well.

But yes, the ILX is handsome, conservative, and cohesive in design. Except for the wheels which look like running feet.

Agreed on the wheels. Something less busy would have fit the design better. The OEM rims on the pre-MMC models was great.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

just to be clear here you are comparing ILX 16 2.4L vs Civic SI correct ?

What You're Missing ILX 2.4L
Limited-slip, nav, and summer tires are all unavailable and stuff we want. The thinner anti-roll bars and 2.2-inch-shorter rear legroom are just a shame.

What you missing on Civic SI
Leather, heated, or power seats, HID lights, keyless go, dual-zone auto climate control, active sound cancellation, an auto-dim mirror, and Acura's one-year-longer warranty.

It will be interesting to see what the next-gen ILX has in store for us. For now, my salesperson friend at the local Honda dealership showed me a 2016 Honda Civic Touring -and I have to say, I am impressed. The interior quality materials, features, fit and finish (for a non-Japanese model anyway) were very good. The exterior appearance did not seem as "disjointed" as the pictures here seem.

The 2016 Civic Touring is definitely a better value than the ILX if you are trying to save some money for stuff like your kid's college fund, house project etc.

Acura needs to step it up.

I haven't seen the new civic on the road yet, but I'm sure it'll be soon. I'm just not a fan of how the new civic looks. Definitely like the ilx styling better.

I like "small" cars (05 TSX), but sat on one @ the dealer, & felt a little bit smaller than my TSX, specially the back seat. No adjustable lumber support? Looking forward to the ILX based on this Civic.

to add one more thing on the CIVIC vs ILX, Honda comes every other year if not every year with a newer style, which makes your car seems old after one year.

I saw a Civic on the road yesterday and I have to admit that the rear area looked a bit awkward....It wasn't bad but I liked it better in photos or when its not in motion....when it moves, it looks a bit weird
