Software or nav data updates?
I have a 2015 TLX Tech and have checked the owners site for updates with none showing.
Anyone know what the normal cadence is for Acura to release updates for nav or the info-tainment system? I assume the 2016 and 2017 models have newer software.

That's the update from 2 years ago that was applied by the dealer prior to delivery. I'm wondering about new and ongoing updates.

I have the same car. When I checked with my dealer a few weeks back, he said there were no updates. But also said the type of updates that have been coming out relate only to specific problems--and if I haven't encountered those problems, the update would be "counter-productive." Never heard anything like this before--but that's what he related.

I have already asked my service advisor about this update. According to him, the DVD is inserted into the CD player slot and instructions will be provided.
The email points to the wrong update.
For a 2015 TLX, the update is located at
The Official Acura Map Update Site | Acura | 2017 Brown DVD Map Update V2 | HERE
I have some highways that are new (almost 2 years old) near my location and they aren't on the current version of the navigation database and so an update would be useful.

Just received the 2017 navi update discs...
...and the engine has to be left idling for 75 minutes???? Really?
I've had a Lexus and my wife has a Nissan, and neither required anything so ridiculous to update the navigation data.
Has as anyone else updated yet? Did it actually take 75 min?
I'm inclined to return the update for a refund, as I really don't want to leave my car idling for 75 min in front of my house, not to mention the wasted fuel, the emissions, and the wear and tear.

You don't have to do the update in one 75 minute session. The previous update (2 years ago) took 60-120 minutes but I just drove the car normally for a couple of days and it completed. The updating stops when the car is turned off and resumes when it is turned back on.

Then the instructions say it takes 5 hours for the update to then install in the background, but you can drive and restart he vehicle.

Definitely you have to do the download in one continuous process. You will get lots of messages saying it will re-start from the beginning if you turn off the engine or remove the DVD. 75 minutes seems about right for the time to install. Once the download is done it will start the update. Says that the map you have on-screen will be updated, so the 5 hours should not be an issue.
One thing that I did not expect. My cell phone was un-paired and my speed dials all discarded. Had to re-pair and create again the speed dials. Nothing in the instructions said that would happen.

Left the car running in garage with the door open. Sat there with a good book. Not sure why there would be any issue with overheating. Fan runs, after all. Anyway, no problems, just a bunch of waiting.

Is the update you are talking about a software update (as opposed to a map update)? For me, map updates have always just been a case of swapping the dvd in the trunk. No idle time at all.
However, if there is a navigation software update I'd love it. The basic nav software in my Acura (2005 TL) sucks so bad that I always take my garmin with me when I do long trips. I doubt that they would change it significantly, but I'd be interested in seeing anything they might have changed.
Slightly off topic (I'll also craete a separate thread), does anyone know of third party hacks to put google maps, or garmin, or tomtom or anything else onto the nav system?

I did the update and it really does take 75 minutes including swapping to disk 2 halfway through. I also experienced the phone unpairing and loss of all my speed dial entries.
I suppose you could use a battery charger and leave the car ON but not running.
I see lots of new POIs like restaurants and ATMs.

So unlike older Nav systems, the DVD does not stay with the car? The files are written to the HDD. So this means after this update the DVD is useless? I imagine it can be sold on to someone else?

So...just completed the update. Here is my experience for anyone who cares.
Total time to complete the disc related process was 1 hour and 40 minutes (100 min). The disc had to be ejected and put back in several times with "Disc read error" even though no obvious scratches or other dirt was on the disc. A quick wipe each time seemed to get past the issue.
It does appear that both the "software" and the "database" were both updated. No idea exactly what that means. Here are the versions before and after:
Before:
software version 3.00.2d05
database version ST003.02.00
After:
software version 5.00.2d03
database version ST005.04.00

My phone was also unpaired and had to be paired again. The update made no change to the inability to add voice tags to speed dial, which has never worked and the dealer and Acura have never been able to get working.

I would be interested in any observations of how things might be working differently.

I've added voice tags to all my speed dials. (Had to re-do that after the un-pairing.) It takes a few tries and for one I wanted to call "Home" it tells me the voice tag is already used. Not really sure where, though. Nothing similar so far as I am concerned. Voice tag lookup is pretty spotty anyway. Does not seem to give those tags priority over other voice response lookups, so I usually have to select from a list of "possibles". Usually I just use the left dial and list on the MDU. I don't need a lot of speed dial numbers anyway.
The update also reset all of my sound and screen settings to default, so I'm assuming the software update may involve the audio and Bluetooth stack as well as navigation.

Voice tags for speed dials on my 2015 have never worked and Acura has never been able to get them to work, despite changing out the telematics unit and other hardware.

just did the update date and although it installed with no problem I also found all my screen and sound settings back to factory default and my phone connection had to be redone. Agree with those who felt this should have been mentioned in the instruction booklet . Also the 16 digit code cane with the discs I have no idea what the security code is. Luckily the instillation completed by simply holding the audio ON button for 2 seconds
#33
Navi update
it asked for the 16 digit code which came with the disc. But in the step by step instructions it mentioned a security code which I might need ifholding down the audio ON button didn't work . This was a different code I think but in any case it wasn't needed
#34
Instructor
That is the Radio (info system) security code. Normally you would not need it. I think you only need it if the radio thinks it might have been removed from the vehicle. That might happen if, for instance, the car's battery is disconnected for a period of time.
#35
The update prompts for it but pressing the power button for 2 seconds gets around inputting it.

Ok I remember I was given this by the dealer with my 2007 TL . I needed it to restart the radio after battery died or battery change but was told I didn't need it for the TLX.

Thanks for you comment. . Since the dealer never gave me the code this time. Hopefully I won't ever need it

Curious if anyone did the update and noticed any subtle changes?
I have a 2015 and have noticed some subtle changes such as a warning to be aware of your surroundings for the rear view camera UI, and maybe it's my imagination, but the sound settings were reset during update, and after update and setting them back where they were the frequency adjustments seem to have changed. The bass seems to have been attenuated and the subwoofer input also has been attenuated at the same UI levels. Maybe this is due to people complaining about vibration (I experienced it and now it's not there at the same level adjustments)?
The "software version" has definitely been updated to 5.00.2d03 so I'm curious what parts of the infotainment system are covered by the "software" update and for anyone with a 2017 TLX, what version came from the factory? Is it the same version as the update?

Is this a navigation update only or is the infotainment system also updated. For example, color contrast on the buttons for audio source is TERRIBLE. Hard to see the icon. Might this be fixed with the navigation update?
