So Fresh & So Clean

Made it back. 1,500+ miles round trip. 22+ hours behind the wheel: half with the 2010 Automatic on the way there and half behind the wheel of the 6-speed manual. More to come. Very tired, but very happy as I now own the B on B 2010 6-speed. No trouble with the law, but unimpressed with the dealership in TX where I did the deal. I won't mention them by name, but it was not the best deal/experience ever. Suffice it to say the experience there is now in my rear view mirror and the line from Gumball Rally applies: "What's in the rear view mirror is not important". I can say this: It was worth it.

Thank you, Ma'am. I wanted the manual from day one, but could not find one. When the Big Black Pilot violated the 2010 Auto, I decided it was time to seek the manual again. I found 4 total in the entire country. 2 were already sold, there was one in Boston, and this one. Now I have to find the right all-season tires. With the help of the tire guys I work with locally and Booya, I will go with the 255/40's I think - just don't know which brand. I have until October/November to decide. I really, really liked the 2010 Auto, but this is that much better. It feels more nimble and I can certainly feel that it is lighter.

There will be no mods here. No money, wouldn't know where to start, and am happy that Honda/Acura did it right out of the box, for me anyway. I do thoroughly enjoy looking at the pics and reading about all of the cool stuff that all you good folks do to your TL's. For me, I am gonna clean it, maintain it, and drive it the way it should be driven: with respect and ENTHUSIASM...

3 mo update
I've owned PICA for 3 months now...in that time, no more speeding tickets
Filled the license plate holes with nice flat plugs, swapped fogs for Morimoto XBs, disabled DRLs, LED plate lights, drove around a tuner show by myself with groceries in the car, had a flat tire, applied layers of Pinnacle Synergy wax, and first oil change at really great local shop called King Motorsport, they recommended Ow20 synthetic.
Next order of business is wheels, but will be later in the season due to a house siding project that starts in July. Siding so far, is the most expensive house renovation I've encountered.

It has been brought to my attention that I can remove the door trim molding myself with a hair dryer and fishing line with no harm to the finish...every time I look at the car I stare at those trim pieces. I'm going to go wash it now and ponder my approach.

+1 on the Conti's. I've had 2 sets of them and really love them.

Autocross!
I plan to Auto-x my TL for a day this summer. My greatest fear is rolling it, I think it was even a part of a dream last night. See I'm having this mini life crisis and have always wanted to try the sport. Once I'm hooked I'll save for a S2K and let 'er rip - mark my words.

New Enkei's
Today the car got new wheels - 19" Enkei Raijins in Hyper Silver matched with Pirelli 245/40/19 P Zero A/S tires.
The goal was an OEM plus look. I failed and I'm not happy with it, looks like I started something and didn't finish. For 1. I should have gone with a shorter tire, 235 perhaps. For 2. The car has never looked so tall, it needs to be lowered.
Here's the other picture I can look at comfortably:

Originally I was going to purchase an OEM 18" rim set with snow tires for winter. Now that this happened I might use the new Pirelli 245/40/19 P Zero A/S tires for winter this year with the stock rims and buy a lower profile tire for the Enkei Raijins - any advice here? 235, 225? How much should I lower it? Don't want to roll fenders.

I have the H&Rs on the factory 19"s and it gives about a 1" drop all around. You can see my default pic for reference.
For the tires, the 235, 225 are tire widths, not profile (tire height). If you want a smaller profile and want to keep a similar overall diameter, then the need a wider tire. Because the profile is a percentage of the width. For example: the 245/40/19 Pirellis would have an overall diameter of 19in + 2(0.4 * 245mm) = 26.7"

From this angle, wheels look good and you have the correct tire size for the 19s. Once you get the coilovers installed, it will look much better with a mild drop. Need a side pic to get a better shot of those wheels. Nice progress though.

I'm not one of those members who come here to show off my car, I'm learning, I come here for advice and to share my journey.
I like the Enkei brand, they're lighter & well made, I realize the car looks good with 20s...
I have some confusion about tire sizes, one guy who has 19 x 9.5 squared TSWs (which I think look great) has 265/35/19 sized tires - why did he do this?
-->My new TPMS doesn't display the individual tire pressures, it has a line next to each wheel and says tire pressure OK, this is to be expected with new TPMS?
Here we go:

As regards to tire size, the width of 265mm will offset the shorter profile (or height) of 35mm. So if you use a tire calculator, it will be very close to running 245/40/19 in rolling diameter. He went with a meatier size tire for more contact patch is my guess. Also, the tpms takes about 5-10 miles for it to detect and read the tire pressures. If you know you're past those miles, I'd get the tpms on the new wheels checked. Are they OEM or aftermarket?

Thank you. It's starting to make sense.
The TPMS is OEM, I'll have to look into it.
I'm trying to mash functional with some sex appeal. I'll lower it 1" and report back.

Happy to see you ordered the Tein SA, everything will fall in to place when you are lowered. You have the correct size tires for the rims, I am also running the same size on my car. The 40 sidewall helps to keep the ride fairly compliant and smooth vs 35 series.

Thank you, it's coming along nicely.
The near future holds:
-New 30% tint by an extremely reputable local company. Currently, there's 3 different shades. Limo on the back, 20% rear and 50% front, really an odd combination. Surprisingly, most people don't notice.
-Tein SA coilovers
-Removal of door guard trim. Although I hated it at first, it kind of grew on me, I felt in some angles it made the car look sportier. Now that the Enkei Raijins are on I feel like the trim looks too chunky.
I don't know what I'm going to do once it's complete, part of the fun is the journey. I do plan to take it to Road America for ONE auto-x event in Aug. In general I'm really excited about auto-x and won't be able to pick up a S2K this year, so I'm going to subject PICA to one day of intermediate careful aggressive driving. I'll have pictures taken, it'll be fun.

Removing Door Guard Trim Project
Taking a break from removing the door trim, here's some pictures:
Used a heat gun/heavy duty fishing line to remove trim.
^That's an interesting look
Work smarter, not harder...Then I used a plastic blade wrapped in a clean shop towel to roll the adhesive off
Clay bar removed the ground in bits, followed by a nice wax and finally....perfection. Well on 1 door, 3 to go....

After 5 months of debating the subject, I've decided to remove them. Besides I park in no man's land anyway, I like the exercise.
Your link doesn't work, you want the trim?

To each his/her own. I had the molding added when I acquired the 6MT. With teens parking next to me in the garage, it serves a really good purpose. Yeah, the RDX gets the third car garage all to herself. She's younger and better looking! But away from home, I'm parked in the north 40 and enjoy the walk as well. The seldom passenger may not, but they aren't allowed to drive it either. Today I had it up to the 6K RPM mark getting around 2 slower movers on the interstate on ramp. it's two lanes for about 300 yards and comes just after a sharp, but elongated turn to enter the ramp. It is in these situations that the engine, transmission, and super handling combine to create an experience for a driver that is really, really.....well you all know what I mean.
