Brakes & Rotors Replacement/Kits

Hello all! I need to replace my brakes on my 2012 Acura TL soon & my dealer told me to consider replacing the rotors aswell. I'm thinking of going after market to save some money & possibly get better performance. I'm a daily driver but have my moments where I like to speed. This is not a easy choice for me as there are many options available. I've been online searching & so far I'm leaning towards the: Power Stop Z23 4-Wheel Brake Kit - K5856. which I believe gives the best bang for buck. Also, has anyone purchased from Brake Rotors Brake Discs Drilled Slotted Rotors . I was wondering how's the quality/performance of there brake kits? They too seem to have great deals on there kits not to mention a lifetime warranty. Please feel free to share links from other threads regarding this topic as I'm sure it will help me & many others. Thank you all I really appreciate it, Rich.

to summarise;

any rotor with slots or drilled holes will be just for aesthetic reasons, ONLY. not so much performance attributed to slotted and drilled rotors. so, when you say you want to save money...you can save money by foregoing the aesthetically designed rotors. if you grab a blank design, it would be MUCH MUCH cheaper

2nd, in that brake kit; they are still offering ceramic pads. ceramic pads arent intended for performance, rather they compromise with white dust. so, instead of a carbon based pad, that gives off dark carbon debris, the ceramic pad will have less debris

t hat brake kit is camouflaged as a performance kit, but it is not. you can get the same performance as that kit, by going to autozone and getting their blanks and ceramic pads for WAY less than that

Well it's just that I found that kit for 300 even including shipping and taxes. Would you say that's a steel deal or should I just go with some plain rotors? Btw thanks for ur reply/info Justn.

you're free to purchase whichever kit or braking components that you see fit according to budget, etc.
if you like the designs and are comfortable with the price, go ahead and purchase!!

that kit will stop the car! and make you look good, doing it!

i'm rocking some slotted rotors up front!

I just looked up the Duralast gold set up and that's going to cost me 200-250. I know it's up to me to make though to make decision but I really appreciate your feedback. Have you ever used a power stops? When I searched for info on them they actually have pretty good reviews. That's the reason why I was leaning towards them but really the price. Now my question is...... Is it worth spending the extra 50 bucks? I know you said earlier that there is a lot of options for a lot cheaper what do you suggest being that it seems that everything is in the 200+ price range.

Wow... I'm wrong about the price on da duralast gold set up it's actually $325 plus tax. That's on autozone with a 20% off coupon.. Can I actually find a better kit then the Power Stop Z23 that includes all 4 pads & rotors for under $300? Or even if I can buy it all separate as long as it's under $300

I actually posted a thread about some cheap quality options unfortunately it was quickly filled with many unwelcome useless comments. But for you I will provide the answer in which you seek.

I recently just installed the Powerstop Z36 Heavy duty pads front and rear which were on amazon.ca and rockauto for stupid cheap, just search for z36-1103 and z36-1102.

I then chose Raybestos Advanced solid rotors, they are painted which vastly improves the look and saves you time painting them, also their tolerances and runout are much less than other "high end" rotors.

Very very happy with the purchases and the price was outstanding.

Make sure you use a silicone brake grease like kleen flo eze slide or even better is
Amazon Amazon
.
Do NOT use permatex brake lube, although it states it wont swell rubber sliders, much research will show you it does, causing large issues down the road.

There ya go

^that's the beauty of the internet, joe

everyone has an opinion. your opinion is neither right or wrong and Richdakidd can choose which way he wants to go..duralast, powerstop, truck brakes, or ANY other option he comes across

as literally, EVERY option that was shown in this thread will stop the car. there's nothing special to the truck brakes, duralast or the power stops...NOTHING special. they are brakes

All I was doing was providing options not telling anyone to do anything. BTW they arent truck brakes, they are the same pads our cars take designed for Heavy duty use, I was pointing out the interchangeability to assist people looking for quality cheap options such as this guy. That is all.

The issue was the people filling the thread with comments that had no value added whatsoever, very much like how your post has nothing to do with this thread. Wow.

All I can say is I do appreciate any & all information that's shared in regards to this topic... So ty Joe

I've been testing/paying close attention to my breaks & how they perform when stopping. I think I might only need to replace my pads, if so it looks like I'll be going with the Akebono ACT1102 ProACT brake pads. Btw my car only has 26k miles on it.

Also ever since Joemcfarnham mentioned the Raybestos advance technology rotors, I've done some research & found really great reviews on them... So if I decide on replacing my rotors looks like I'll end up going with them. Thanks again Joe.

You're very welcome, I'm very happy with them on my car and they were a decent price too.

Since I bought my 2012 6MT TL a month ago I've done the following:
Caliper paint and RDX brackets
Brake fluid
Coolant change with water wetter
Undercoating
Oil change
Air filter
Cabin filter
Mufflers and tips
Transmission fluid
Rear differential fluid
Transfer case fluid
Tires on rims with TPMS
Brake pads front and back
Brake rotors
Rims and tires

think I'm good for a while. Car had 93k km and I'm pretty certain other than oil none of the fluids had been touched.

I purchased the slotted black zinc coating rotors along with the semi metallic pads a year and half ago and just barely installed them in Nov. 2016. This is the Part No. Part No. &
Dimensions: SBFR-40075 SBFR-40074. The pads isn't all that great because i had to clean my rims every 3 days so I changed it out for the Centric Posi quiet ceramics. Now less brake dust and better stopping abilities from my experience. Not too fond of the rotors having surface rust, but that's pretty much what you get in the PNW weather. Good luck

Sorry for the delay, lots going on.... But for the rdx covers I cut the center tab off and bent the side tabs to fit snugly onto the caliper bracket. Not the caliper, I've noticed many people attach it to the caliper itself rather than the bracket, but as its a floating caliper I thought best to leave it unattached to that and only only the bracket, I used some steel weld glue stuff apparently good to 300 degrees. Its held very well soo far, and the weathers still shit here lotsa slush still kicking around. I painted the calipers first with POR 15 caliper paint, I did a pretty shitty job with a brush and it still came out decently. If you have any other questions just ask.

I forgot what I did, they are attached to the caliper on the front and on the bracket in the back. The point is not to attach to both as the caliper is meant to move freely. Thanks.

45218-TX4-A00 is the part number for the caliper cover, I used a JB weld steel weld to affix them to the calipers, I cut the top middle tab off and bent the side ones to fit around the calipers, I think I have better instructions above.

it was just a protective film that came with the caliper covers, I left it on while I painted the calipers and affixed them as to avoid marking them up.

So OP what did you end up using for the rotors and pads?

I am in need to replace my pads and rotors as well. I was thinking of grabbing the stoptech kit, the blank rotors and ceramic pads.
BRAKEPACKAGE-PB-0913TL - Acurazine Brake Packages - Excelerate Performance - European, Exotic and Japanese Performance Specialists!!

I was planning on going OEM but for the price not sure if I want to do it. But I read people said going aftermarket the brake pedal feeling is different than OEM...

I ordered one of the Acurazine packages, they get installed Monday. I will let you know how they feel. I did go with new lines and will have them flush the system, should feel stiffer.

Cheers

I installed these brakes over two months ago now. I can confidently say they are better feeling than the brembos on our Cadillac XTS. These are the smoothest rotors I've ever driven. Two months in zero complaints and as a bonus they are really well priced. I did also bleed all my brakes with good dot 5.1 brake fluid. Makes a noticeable improvement in pedal feel

OP are those tires Michlin Pilot Sport A/S 3+?

How do you like them? I plan to get a set for my 19in adv wheels. Also I notice your running 45 instead of 40 is there a reason you went with higher profile?

Hello,

Anyone looking for a pair of pre-cad deletes? I only had them installed for a week on my 2011 TL, these are for the 3.7 SHAWD model. They added a vast improvement in performance but combo'd with a jpipe and xlr8 exhaust were a bit loud for my wife. My 6 year old loved it but being middle aged my wife wins! They are in perfect shape (installed and removed by local Acura shop) and would sell them cheap...will ship only in the lower 48.

Cheers
