Renew XM Radio for $77 or less for 12 months, Part 7
#162
Thanks everyone!
They wouldn't remove the $11 royalty fee, so I opted for the 5 month deal. $23 and change including the royalty fee. $56/yr... but I'll have to remember to call in 5 months.

another satisfied customer...just renewed for $23.05 for 5 months. I tried to get them to charge me $55 for 12 months but they said they can only do it for 5 months and I'd have to call back in 5months to see if I can get it again.

I tried the script even though it was not needed, they automatically go to the $77 +$11 for XM. I spent an hour going from 1 call center to another trying to add Best of Sirius. Their answer was No there is no promotion for Best of Sirius it will cost $186 for a total price of $208. And if you want to continue your Nav traffic $4 more and include weather for another $3. To continue what I have now it will be either $88 for only XM or $292 for everything. So as of 9/1/10 I will have NO SAT radio just local stations. piss on them if they think I'll pay $300 a year!

Just had to update, I called back this morning and was able to get a marvelous XM representative. She took her time and yes She was able to do either the 5 month XM with a 6 month BOS for $47.88 out the door which will automatically roll into an XM + BOS on Feb 1st for 101.94 + 11 royalty and $2 for a billing fee. Could not get the weather and traffic for less than $7 a month so me cell phone can do that for free. It is a nice feature on the NAV but not worth $84 a year. It paid to try again. Thanks for all the posts prior giving the insight on how to get this done.

My trial ends in a few weeks, called today and was offered the $88.78 deal right away. Had them throw on the best of Sirius so that made it $114.94 and then did the traffic for $3.99/mo and got the guy to credit me a month ($13) since I had time left on my trial. They didn't ask for credit card or anything, said they would bill me

I need some advice. I followed the script and was able to get the $77/year for XM but I could not get BOS and to make matters worse I was told that I had no choice other than to have the account auto renew. I told the CSR I would not sign up under those terms. Any advice for call #2?

At this point they do not have any promotions on traffic and weather.

Ok, I typically never post, just lurk but I figured this post would help others!
My 3 month trial period ran out and I received the typical "renew XM" letter with the ludicrous renewal prices. After reading a lot of posts here, I decided to try and renew for one year with the best of Sirius for $114.94 that someone mentioned in an earlier post.
First call in I spoke to someone that was very unhelpful and said it wasn't available. I said I guess I wouldn't be getting a subscription and she said ok.
Hung up and called back immediately and this time I spoke to a rep that was very nice and helpful. I mentioned the $114.94 deal and mentioned that it had included fees. She said she had not heard of it, but would look for a package. Sure enough, she found the "Half off XM and best of Sirius" package for $101.94. She stated that even she hadn't heard of that package before.
Asked to get billed instead of credit card and was told no problem, just a $2.00 processing fee for that. Was also told that I would automatically renew at the normal subscription price of $186 when the year was up unless I canceled.
All said and done I will be billed $113.83 for one year of XM with best of Sirius. Hope this helps anyone that wants the best of Sirius with XM!

XM Subscription
My 3 month trial subscription ended yesterday. I called XM today and was quoted $142 for a year. I said that was too much, and the CSR told me about music only packages for less. I said I wanted XM Everything but $142 was too much. The CSR didn't offer anything else so I said no thanks.
I called back 2 hours later and said that I had heard there was a $77 package. A different customer service rep confirmed that I was eligible. I ended up with $77 for a year plus $11 royalty fee with a one time credit card charge (I will be invoiced at the prevailing rate after year at which time I could accept, negotiate again or cancel).
I appreciate all who have posted here - if I didn't see these posts, I'd probably be spending $142.

I started getting the $77 deal on my '05 TL back in '06, and it has worked every year since. However, about a year ago, I decided I was going to cancel because the service quality after the merger has gone way downhill. When I called last year to cancel, they immediately transferred me to retention and they asked why I wanted to cancel. I listed several reasons - service quality getting worse, pricing too high, etc. All of a sudden the $77 was not even discussed and they immediately threw the $20 for 5 months special at me. I asked if I could get it for a whole year, and they said they could only do 5 months at a time, and I would have to call in to renew or cancel or it will auto renew at the current market rates.
I jumped on it, and I just renewed that promo for the 3rd time this week right before my expiration date. Definitely follow the script and you will get the deal. Don't be afraid to tell them you want to cancel; the key is you have to be willing to follow through. It doesn't hurt to list reasons why you are considering cancelling; cost, service quality, too many commercials, etc. They won't let you cancel without offering you something special. Believe me they need all the customers and revenue they can get since they are bleeding money.
XM/Sirius will be in even more trouble once the auto makers integrate full time Internet connectivity in all vehicles someday. Then, most people will just use Pandora, Napster, AccuRadio to get their tunes via Internet radio which is free.

As many others have done, I setup the account to invoice me for the $2 fee.
NOTE: She said that she couldn't find the same special with BOS and she asked where I heard about it. I just mentioned that "I had a coworker who just renewed with that plan at that rate." After a moment she came back and said that her supervisor would allow her to honor that rate.

Burning Brakes
Just renewed for the 5th time; The deal was the same $77; got the C.S. reps' name & I.D.; 2 days later, check my Amex statement, & they added that $11 surcharge.
Called back; blasted them; they agreed to apply the $11, to my next Traffic & Nav. payment, in October.
This company is VERY disorganized; no wonder their stock went to $1
Deceit doesn't sit well with consumers; a deal is a deal; no surprise surcharges

Advanced
Even easier the 2nd year
Got my invoice today (Sept 20, postmarked on 17th) for 3 month service as of Sept 13 for around $45.
Called the number on the invoice to cancel. First guy took info to cancel service effective Sept 13 and said passing me onto another rep. Second rep asked why canceling... I said too expensive...she looked up my account and said last year you had 1/2 price deal. She said she could offer that and I said if you can, that would be great.
So paid $77 + $11 fee + taxes so total for year is $92 (and change) for second year. Seemed even easier than last year. Although, I wonder why they don't just offer a reasonable price right up front vs. going through all the customer service dance!

So I thought I'd share my story on how I was able to get XM Everything with BOS + XM Navi/Weather for $100. I had canceled my trial subscription yesterday because I did not want them to charge me the normal monthly price. After I canceled, I called back and told the representative that, I wanted to renew my membership even though I canceled it earlier today. I had told them that i was offered a $100/Year Plan for XM Everything with BOS + XM Navi/Weather (Which I was not offered, I had to make this up- Thats the Catch).... The representative was not able to activate my membership because the cancellation was still pending and he told me that I had to do it on the following day. I then ask if I would be charged an activiation fee, he said No, he would go ahead and put comments on my account to, 1. Not charge a activation fee, and 2. To give me the $100 Membership fee for the XM, BOS, XM Navi/Weather that I was promised by the representative earlier.
I called in the today, told them that they were comments on my account for what happened, and BAM! Got 1 Year XM Everything with BOS XM Navi/Weather for $100. Not bad at all i'd say! Give it a try, works like a charm!

Here is a take from a Canadian perspective.
My 3 month free trial expires tomorrow and I was going to wait till next week to use the "flyer script". I had received a letter a few weeks ago offering 3 months at 4.99/month and then the other 9 at the normal rate of 14.99/month.
I thought I would try the script and said.."Hey glad you called I got this flyer etc etc.
He said he had no knowledge of such a flyer and after dickering back and forth the best he could offer me was 119/yr plus taxes etc.......came to almost 140 bucks.
Told him too expensive and he said thx for my time and if I ever want to sign up just call them.
I'm going to wait a week and phone and hopefully get a different CSR. My hope is that they may contact me before that.
Again this is from a Canadian perspective....

Just called and said something to the effect of, "My trial ended, and I wanted to sign up for XM and best of Sirius, but the online price is way too expensive, and some of my friends have XM for 77/year." He said he can do the 77/year, and $12.12 quarterly for best of Sirius. So with the $11.78 royalty fee, it comes to $137.26/year, or $11.43/mo. I also added traffic service for $3.99/mo.
P.S. The guy wouldn't budge on the royalty fee. I really didn't fee like staying on teh phone with the guy forever battling him for less than a dollar per month.

This website has saved me some serious $. I bought my TL in 04 and got the deal mentioned in this thread for the first time in 05. Well, I kept getting this deal through 09 (five times) then I traded in my car and got a new one with an XM radio. I replaced the radio on the old account. When it came time to renew, I got the deal again. Wow.
2 things - First, don't fool around with sales, just go to the cancelation rep. Second, ask for a one time payment invoice. They will take your card over the phone, but not keep it on file. This prevents the automatic rate hike next year.
I appreciate this site even though I don't have a TL anymore. Thanks all.

Guys, I don't want to add another option or fuel to the thread - but for the past year I have received a 5 months of XM Everything for $20 (not including the royalty fee).
I continue to call to quit, saying all I use the radio for is listening to music and dont have a need to spend 10 dollars a month, nevermind 20 dollars a month on XM. The CSR immediately offers me the package and I am good for 5 months.
I honestly wouldn't renew unless it was this cheap.

My 3-month trial ended in September. I just received an email from XM saying, in part:
Now, if I can get them down to $4 and no fees, no renewal . . . then we're talking turkey in November.
Whadda you guys think? Am I totally unrealistic? I really don't miss XM, but I wouldn't mind having it if it were really cheap.
Right now you can reactivate your XM Everything service with more than 170 channels and bring your drive back to life. And you can do it for less. Sign up today for only $4.99*† a month for 6 months — that's a 61% savings off our normal monthly rate. And we'll also waive the $14.99 reactivation fee.
U.S. Music Royalty Fee: Radio subscriptions which include music channels will be charged a fee per paid month of your plan term. For details, see online XM Customer Agreement at xmradio.com. State taxes will apply.
†Offer Details: Purchase a Semi-Annual (6 months) Plan of "XM Everything" for 4.99/mo. A credit card, prepaid subscription card, or agreement to invoice billing required at time of activation. May not be combined with other offers. Service will automatically renew for additional periods of the same length as the Plan you choose, at the then-current standard subscription rate, unless you call to cancel. (their bold)
Part of me is considering it because $4.99 is good. But I don't want to auto-renew (I do have a Walmart VISA purely for this subscription) nor do I wish to renew "at the current" rate. Further, I refuse to pay any royalty fees (as implied above). U.S. Music Royalty Fee: Radio subscriptions which include music channels will be charged a fee per paid month of your plan term.
