Friend of mine just informed his xm service quit today at 90 days. He will be making claim and he paid for 1yr too. Seller is a scumbag.

Yep - mine cut off today. Pay-Pal claim has been submitted - we'll see what happens. If it seems too good to be true it usually is!

Wow, did a year go by already? Sheesh.

Got the standard overpriced renewal notice recently. 218.55 for Sirius XM Select and 47.88 for NavTraffic. So obviously had to dig through the latest discussions here and see what was up. Called in to cancel and got "Jeff". I gotta say the outcome on these totally depends on who you get when you call in. This guy was really nice. Told him I really like having it, but gosh, really can't renew at THAT price. Might be selling the vehicle, etc. He instantly said he might have a promotion he could offer, then came back with 135.34 for the exact same XM Selext/NavTraffic package as I currently have. This includes $2 invoice and some credit for calling a week early. I said, hey, you made my day! So this is the same cost as last year. Took the deal!

Got an email notification from PayPal this evening that I was fully refunded for the two subscriptions. Now have to do the dance with XM to get a deal on legit subscriptions.

Just did the dance to the same old tune & ended up with 5 months for $51.42 for two vehicles, my '06 TL and a '09 Ford Explorer. Not bad but it took 20 minutes and I'll have to dance again in January.

My sirius just quit, 91 days after purchase from the Ebay seller. I didn't use PayPal, used credit card. I sent a message to the seller in Ebay, but what are my options since I didn't use PayPal? Looks like the Ebay guarantee expired after the first 30 days. Any idea how I can get a refund?

Wow, Paypal is the best! Very helpful on the phone and found in my favor. First I contacted Ebay, but being beyond their 30 day guarantee they forwarded me to Paypal customer service - who were great. Even though I purchased with a credit card, I do have a paypal account and they evidently work with Ebay or are owned by ebay or vice-versa or something. I learned my lesson, it's Paypal for me for now on.

Now to go back to the real Sirius/XM and see what kind of deal I can squeeze out of them...

First week in January I have to deal with renewing. Any input would be appreciated. I really hate doing this every six months.

I also need to do the dance again in January--very tiresome. Last couple of times I was offered to renew at what I was currently paying which was fine for me since it is not worth for me to spend a bunch of time haggling to maybe save a few more bucks. So what is the going rate these days for renewing?

$128 for Select service with weather and traffic updates for one year.

Now let me vent:
  • XM satellite service is still not available in Hawaii. Years ago, XM (prior to the merger) applied for an FCC license to install a booster attenna on Oahu. Never happened. So Hawaii car owners pay for an XM-ready radio when they buy or lease a car, but cannot use it.
  • Sound quality has degraded. 32-64kbps AAC-HE. Really? Dynamic range is compressed and fatiguing to listen to for more than 20-30 minutes. And the bitrate changes according to station, time of day, number of users, etc. Never consistent, except perhaps on the classical channels.
  • Too many religious and sports stations.
  • Paying Howard Stern $90 million a year for his tired material is ridiculous. And it prevents Sirius XM from investing in better signal transmission, sound quality, additional satellites and terrestrial repeaters, and more diverse programming.
However, XM Radio must be doing something right. It has surpassed 31 million subscribers and Howard Stern is its #1 rated show....

Just give me my Hawaiian music channel and I will shut up. Mahalo.

My 6 months were expiring on the 12th, called and did 99 for a year. Figured it was easier to not have to deal with it again in 6 months.

I woke up to -22C (-8F); certainly not the coldest day of the year, but cold. Relative humidity i my house today is about 21% (love my Nest thermostat).

I could deal with a couple of years of too much humidity.

I have not gotten my renewal in the mail yet but received an email to go paperless--no way are they going to get my charge card. But I logged into my account to see what the renewal will be if I do nothing. I currently pay $161.59 for the 1-year XM Select and Nav Traffic and the renewal shows up as $286.79. I have to gather up the patience to make my yearly call and am not sure what to expect.

To those interested, called 866-635-5020 today to "cancel" due to excessive cost and the guy said he would read me available promotions that would cover the same service as I currently had (XM Select) and I can accept or reject. The first thing he listed was the XM Select (which is what I have) at $99 per year. This was much less than the $162/year cost for XM Select shown on their website and I am not sure what other promotions he had to offer but I stopped him and accepted this one since it is what I am willing to pay. My fallback would have been to step down to the XM Mostly Music package and I assume the guy would have also suggested this had I rejected his $99 offer for XM Select.

I told him I also had the Traffic package and asked if he could add that. In the past the same person was able to do both but I guess things changed since he said he only handled the music packages. He passed me along to another person who said the Traffic would be $3.99 a month. Again this was okay for me. So total of everything came out to $165.62 which is essentially what I paid last year.

I assume a good haggler could probably do better but basically this seemed okay for me.

It is just a damn nuisance having to go through this nonsense every year since they are always agreeable to making a deal.

What a mess it is to renew this. Trying to renew it for a family member after she last year agreed on $180 and now $250 with no traffic or mobile access. What a crazy price. They expect you to just accept any cost they deem? And If you have an issue with the price, they make you call in to haggle. Brilliant.

Exactly!! I would think that someone there would have realized that there are so many other options these days that cost nothing, such as streaming Pandora from you Smartphone over bluetooth. On the other hand there must be plenty of folks willing to automatically renew without the haggling but paying $250+ a year for this is more than I was willing to pay given the time we are actually in the car listening.

Is 5 months for $28.46 or 1 year for $112.76 (after taxes and fees) a good deal? That's the offer I got in the mail.

Wasn't offered $99/year so I cancelled

Called in to try to get a deal. It seems that I paid $120/year for all access last year, so they offered me that rate of $49 for 6 months. I asked if they would give me $99/year, they said no. So I just cancelled.

I will call back in a couple weeks and see what kind of deal I can get. I'd be willing to pay $10/month ($120/year) if I only have to call in once year. But I am not doing this silly song and dance every six months.

XM must be the only company that charges you more per month for a long term commitment.

Just yesterday I called and "canceled." They transferred me to their cancellation department and they gave me the $99/year plus royalties for $112. Guess it depends on who you talk to...

Good point. It's almost as if the guys answering the phones know that if the phones started ringing only once per year, there'd be layoffs.

I just renewed for a 12 months including traffic and weather for $123 plus the outrageously high fees and taxes. That put me in the $145 range for everything. I'm okay with that. They offered me a better price for XM Select only but this deal was the only one they offered that would include the traffic and weather subscriptions. Slightly over $12/month for everything.

Just did the end of term call. "Daniel" LOL offered up the 1 yr for $99 or 5mo for $25. Went pretty quick and one of the easier renewals I have had.

This was pretty much my experience I had a few days ago. Once I told the rep that I was not going to renew at the full rate shown in the email they had sent me, he offered my the $99/year plan that I accepted. No need to be transferred to the Retention Department this year! I still hate that we have to call SiriusXM at each renewal but it was a bit nicer renewing this year than any years in the past.

Recently, I received the $25 deal for 5 months; however, I am not sure if that also includes traffic and weather information? Can someone please confirm? If it is not included, can I still add the traffic to the $25 deal or will I have to go with a completely different deal? Thanks

I was told that traffic and weather were only available with the $99/yr package. I was quoted a price that I was happy with and I accepted the deal. A day or two later, I noticed that I didn't have weather, only traffic. I called back and they told me that they only signed me up for traffic. I explained that I signed up for both and quoted the price they charged for both traffic and weather. They said that the price I was quoted would only cover traffic, not weather too. I told them I would just cancel the traffic/weather all together. I was put on hold and when they got back on the line, guess what......I now had XM Select, traffic and weather for the original price they quoted me. They sent a refresh signal and just like that I suddenly had weather again.

I'm getting autorenewed at $22 a month right now because I've been too lazy to call in and ask for a deal I really need to call them this week.

Fast Renewal Process, $99

Indeed, the $99 renewal can actually go very quickly if you immediately get to the point.
I simply call 866-635-5020, select "Cancel my account" and the automated system transfers me to an agent. From there I immediately say that I received notification that my account was about to renew and that I had previously had a promotional rate and wanted to know if the promotional rate was still available.. That's all it took, just that one sentence and the rep immediately quoted the $99 rate and I said, "Yes". From that point it was simply a matter of him reviewing the offer and me telling him I wanted invoice billing ($2 extra) to avoid giving him my CC #. The entire call took no longer than 5 minutes. Never-ever give them your CC number!!

Just did my 5 month dance again - $25/5months. They also offered the $99/yr and $48/6mos options.

I just renewed for $99/year again and tacked on traffic for another $24. Didn't ask about the 5 month $25 deal. Figure it's worth $99 (+$24) not to have to worry about it for another year--but would have cancelled if I wouldn't have gotten a deal. Would never pay $250+/year!!

My experience was very similar to Cap'n Preshoot--except they already have my CC on file, and I let them charge that for my renewal.

Absolutely! Having to go through this song & dance once a year is more than I want to do. Doing it every 5 months would be awful!
