Type-S Aftermarket wheels

Ok, I am the owner of a 08' NBP Type-S. I (like many other people on this site) am on the hunt for wheels that will clear the standard Brembo brakes up front. Non Type-S TL's don't have the clearance issues with the front brakes that we do, therefore they have a larger selection of wheels to choose from. The tire and wheel shops don't carry many wheels in stock to try on and check fitment, and even when they contact the wheel companies for info., many times they aren't 100% positive that the wheels will clear the brakes.

So, the purpose of this thread is to have all the Type-S owners with aftermarket wheels come and post up. Type-S owners looking for aftermarket wheels can come here and see the selection that are available for their cars, and know for a fact that they will fit, because other member's are running them. Now, I know there is a "New Wheel/Tire specs thread with pics" thread started, but like I said I would like this one to be Type-S specific. This thread can only grow with participation so please all you Type-S owners help us out. Like I said I'm on the hunt and only have stock Type-S wheels, so as an example I will post first, when I get my new shoes I’ll post again. Thanks for the participation in advance

Any interest in selling your TL-s wheels? I think I'm one of the minority who actually likes the look of the current TL-s wheels.

225/40/18 is a bit narrow for 8.5" wheels. probably will be stretched. 245 is better.

TheWanderer, changing to 18s?

Highly unlikely because of the offset. And I dont think you want to run 225/35s unless you dont like your rims or your dental fillings.

The offset alone does not mean it will fit; it depends a lot on the wheel design, but an offset of around 35mm means you are in the ballpark.

How about reviving this thread.
And, more people post more wheels that fit Type S/BBKs TLs. I'm currently shopping for affordable 18" wheels and am very disappointed with my options.

Will these fit?

So now it's my turn to get some new shoes on my 07 Type S. I use it as a commuter car so I'm not really big on spending lots for rims. I was looking at some 18 inch Rota rims. Can anyone let me know if these will fit my ride?

MAKE OF WHEEL: Rota
MODEL OF WHEEL: G Force (Gunmetal)
FRONT SIZE AND OFFSET: 18x8.5in & 48mm
REAR SIZE AND OFFSET: 18x8.5in & 48mm
TPMS YES/NO: Yes
SPACERS YES/NO, WHAT SIZE: None
TIRE SIZE: Any recommendations? I do lots of highway driving so don't want a super soft tire....something that lasts long and has good traction.

I'd like to revive this thread once again. I just bought an '07 Type-S and want to get 18" wheels so the OEM ones have to go. I'd like to see what other wheels clear the Brembo calipers so please post a pic of your ride if you have changed out the wheels. Would also appreciate if you could post how much you paid for them. I don't want to spend thousands on this. Ideally, I would like to go with 18" A-spec wheels but they are out of my price range. Wish Acura would have equipped the Type-S with the A-Spec wheels to begin with.

The wheel shown below is a Kazera KZ-H and is available thru tirerack.com for $154 each for 18" which is a good price. They are low pressure cast wheels and weigh a respectable 21 lbs each (same weight as some of the $800 BBS wheels). I called tire rack and they confirm they will fit over the Brembos. They said that Kazera is a house brand. I like the machined finish on the wheels. What do you guys think of them? My Type-S is carbon bronze pearl so I think a polished/machined finish would go best.

Any other wheel websites out there that I should check out for good deals besides tirerack and wheelmax?

Thanks,

Al

Could you also add the cost of replacing your wheels ?

Hey elstls,
your wheels are the type I am looking for my Type-S which I got on Tuesday. I started off looking for a budget car but ended up with a Type-S. In other words I blew my budget in a big way. I want to get rims and tires like yours but don't want to spend more than $500-600 on top of what I get from my Type-S rims and tires. I am totally new to this world of yours ..what is "A-Spec" ? Just a random name given to a model of rims, etc or does it mean something more than that.

Hey Mike,
are you still in the market for Type-S rims ? I got a new Type-S this week and would like to get some rims not as dark (I have a black car with black interior and the dark rums are making it too dark).
Let me know and we could work out something. Thanks

I got the Ebony A-specs from DCH Acura in Temecula, CA. They advertised them for around $1500.+ on ebay. Then I sold my originals. You have to take into account the additional costs of the tires also. I got mine from TireRack and they are the Bridgestone RE760 Sports in size 245/40/18. This will increase the price to more than the $600 you were trying to limit it to.
A-spec is a sport brand of Acura that enhances the performance to a sport mode, stiffer suspension, larger wheels with lower profile tires, and body parts (spoilers, etc) to enhance the look. Good luck.

Thanks for your informative post. I am just interested in the rims and tires. How much do you think I should expect for my Type-S rims and tires with less than 300 miles on them ?
Would any A-Spec 18" rims work for the Type-S or should I bee looking for something that specifically is compatible with the Brembo brakes ?

I see the S wheels selling for min 800 on EBay. Since you have new tires you should have no problem selling them. Do a search on EBay for Aspec 18" TL & you will see many choices. These are my favorites with a black TL...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-OEM-Acura-TL-Aspec-A-spec-rims-BLK-CHROME-wheels_W0QQitemZ260334632845QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMot ors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item260334632 845&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A727%7C66%3 A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

BTW: I'm the guy that helped you get the S by providing my invoice (scott) & the link here. Welcome to AZ.

I think that you should be able to get $1000. for the wheels and tires combo as long as they are as new as you described. I would list them on the black market after you have had enough posts on the Acurazine site.

BTW: I'm the guy that helped you get the S by providing my invoice (scott) & the link here. Welcome to AZ.
Het Scott ...good to see you here ! I am slowly sinking into the Acura world ! I have been eyeing the wheels you linked and this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AIT&viewitem=
for the last couple of days. They look similar but I am not sure if they are same. The above rims and tires will get me into the $2500 range and f I get only about 1K for my Type-S rims and tires it will be hard to bite. If I can get close to $1500 then things would become more manageable. Will see. I wish the MS Cash Back was still going strong !

Your better off buying the tires & wheels together. Most mount & balance for a package deal that's hard to match. Make sure they include TPMS in each wheel.
