Tein Street Advance...will this work?

thinking about picking up a set of tein street advance coils and I'm wondering if this setup will work without tire stretch/fender roll/camber kit.

I have a type-s with 18x8.5" +30 work cr cai wrapped in 245/40 tires. I'm planning to have the teins at minimum drop which I believe is 1.1/1.0" front and rear. this is my dd so I'm not interested in slamming it.

my concern is that the front tires, which poke about 3mm, might hit the fenders. thoughts?

thanks in advance!

you wouldnt believe how easy a fender roll or even cutting the tabs on the fender is.

if you do get a slight rub, the fender will either slice/shave the tires for you, or you would have to roll or cut the tab from the fender.

its super easy.

It might rub, but it will be very minimal.

It also depends on how stiff you set it.

I'm almost maxed on teins ~2.5" drop and rub only when cornering medium-hard over a dip, but my rims are one inch bigger and I'm one inch lower than you.

Specs are:
Rims: 19x8.5 +25 Tires: 225/35/19 Tein SS: 14 clicks front and rear

thanks for the quick responses guys! could the tire damage the fender? the tire does poke out about 3mm further than the fender, so I'm not even sure if rolling would help or not?

You should be fine. It might require a slight fender role.

The tire won't damage the fender. If anything, the inner fender will just cut through the tire (it just happened to me on Tuesday).

However, it was on a significantly steep driveway and I wasn't paying attention that my wheel was fully turned.

Specs on Street Advance

-2.9 Front
-2.6 Rear

If you're looking to lower only about an inch, you might want to look at springs.

My specs are 18x9 +30 and 235/40/18 and I only rub slightly up front. I'm about 2 threads from being slammed so I'm close to the 2.9" drop. The rears have been fine, slammed and actually, running -1.5 degree of camber, has no poking issues. Neither does my front. +30 is pretty flush.

I was under the impression there was a range??

Ride Height Adj Range (F) -1.1~-2.9in
Ride Height Adj Range (R) -1.0~-2.6in

thanks, your setup is pretty close to mine, my tires are just 245 rather than 235.

There is a range, I think Undying was just giving you the upper range the car can be lowered.

If you're only going for about an inch drop, why not get some Koni Yellow shocks and H&R springs. You can get them for about $720 shipped and they will provide you with about 1.4" up front and 1.3" in the rear. Plus, if one of the shocks does go out, you can get an individual shock replaced for about $150.

well, the price doesn't factor into it for me. my understanding is that the tein sa is the best out there in terms of ride quality, and adjustability.

It does give you more options to adjust, but I think others on here may argue that the Konis are a better shock and give better ride quality. You said you only want to drop the car slightly more than an inch, and the H&Rs will do exactly that. It's up to you though. If you want the added benefit of adjusting height later and can pay the extra $150-250 (depending on whether you get new tophats) then I'd go with the SA.

gotcha, and of course I appreciate your perspective. in terms of ride quality, I am under the impression that with the dampening adjustability the tein gives a great ride. I had konis/h&r on my old e36 m3, thought it was too harsh and it would rattle like crazy. handled really great though.

Sorry skd, from your original post it sounded like you only wanted to lower it a little more than an inch.

You are correct though, they start at 1.1" and their lowest height is 2.9" (F) and 2.6" (R).

I've had them on the car for roughly 10k miles and am still very pleased with them. I have adjusted the height many times so I think spending that extra money has paid off because without it, I would be stuck wishing I was lower.

I started with a 1.5" drop and now I'm here wouldn't have it any other way either. I am extremely pleased with the ride quality and having damping adjustment is great, currently it's pretty stiff because I'm so low I don't want to rub the fender liner. (It already has a hole in it)

From your posts, it sounds like the Teins will be a great choice. However, if you plan to go lower than these have to offer, I recommend looking into ISC.

And just to give you idea, this is where it sits at the drop I listed in my previous post. (Front 2 threads from maxing and rear is maxed).

awesome, this is what I wanted to hear! I really like the idea of being able to make adjustments as needed. it would be dangerous to the car's health to go lower than 2.9" on my work commute.
