When to roll fenders?

When to roll fenders?
Hello all, if this has been covered already I appologize. I've been doing a lot of research lately to determine at what offset fenders need to be rolled, but I haven't really found an answer. I plan to purchase some 17x9's with a +38 offset. This will make the rim stick out 20mm more than stock. I plan to keep the car at stock ride height. My question is if there is any way to tell if they will rub before purchasing the rims? Is there a specific offset where tires will start to rub with stock ride height?

you're at stock ride height. thats like 4 finger gaps or even more. it wont rub
but if you plan to go lower or get more aggressive wheels, then yes, you should roll regardless. its super easy to roll. it doesnt hurt the car..
you know how I knew when to roll? when the tire was getting cut up from the fender. thats how I knew.....
but since its so easy to roll, just do it...in anticipation for more aggressive wheels and a lowered ride height

if you happen to catch the right bump/pothole, etc.... the suspension can rebound up into the wheel well, GIVING you the possibility or the chance of touching the fender.
but thats only on a perfect condition, meaning pothole, etc...
also, all wheel and tire specs are different. so, you might find that you're rubbing.
its all chance, mate. 50/50. the only way you'll know if you need it is if it does start to rub

at stock ride height and those wheel specs youll be fine..
i just threw on my new wheel/tires on my car a month ago.. 18x9.5 with 30 offset lowered on tein S-techs on 235/40/18 and i got NO RUBBING
I had one side rub (rear passenger side) and thats only because the previous owner got into an accident and it dented the rear fender so when i
got the tires and wheels mounted on the car, 3 sides were fine and the damaged side rubbed.. i went to get that fender rolled 30min after mounting the wheel since it was digging chunks out of the sidewall
so now after a month of having the wheels mounted, i can still confidently say there's still no rubbing issues with my setup.. from going over extremely bad pot holes, high speed aggressive corners, and even having 4 people in the car, (2 in the front, 2 in the back) it hasnt rubbed once... in my opinion you should save your time and money rolling fenders you wont need it because
1. your wheel width and offset is less aggressive than mine
2. your riding on stock height, im lowered about 1.5" - 1.8"
