Power Steering Pump Problem 175k subseq problems

I know there are other threads on this, but read on:

I had the recalled leaking power steering fixed back in 2007.

I had the o-ring fixed back in February 2008. I had to tell the dealer (rosenthal acura) about it, who said I needed a replacement pump.

Now two (2) years later, the whine is back. The dealer is saying to replace the pump, just like before. Wants me to pay $550 for it.

I have the original 2004 and I bought it right away when they came out. I have got a lot of miles on it, so most things have tended to hit me first. This is the ONLY problem I've had with this car . . . power steering over and over.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

doesn't the pump get changed at the 105K maintenance? if not just buy a used pump and have a local mechanic change it. 280 for a new pump at acuraoemparts. or hit up car-part.com or similiar. 100 bucks low miles

I just had the power steering pump (and hoses) replaced on my '06 Acura TL last week due to an extensive leak, as well as the front and side engine mounts that were cracked and giving the car a rough idle feel.

Not sure who you bring your car to, but I have an Acura Specialist here in San Francisco that does all service/maintenance on my car, and each and every job they do is covered by their own in house 2 year warranty on all parts (and labor if something they repaired went wrong). You might consider finding a shop such as the one I go to- then you'll have a greater peace of mind about any repairs, god forbid the same part break over and over...
