Replacing Clutch but not the fly wheel?

Hello all,
So my clutch is gone and the car is in the shop. They are quoting like a 1000 extra dollars to replace the fly wheel as well. I know it isn't necessarily necessary, but I was wondering what others have done? My old 2005 TL with a six speed got a new clutch after I no longer had it and it is still on the road today (two plus years) without a flywheel replacement. But I know it wasn't done because of money. I don't want to pay the extra dollars if I don't need to, but I can if it is recommended. The shop isn't saying it has to be done, but it is technically a wear item. Your thoughts? If I was to supply my own parts, say from Rock Auto, the shop won't warranty the work, obviously. So, that's another part of my dilemma. Thanks, jb

I would bite the bullet and do the fly wheel as well if you plan on keeping it for a long time. If you were selling it, I would just do the clutch. Will be worth the money to pay for 1 clutch job instead of 2. Just my

That is my thought as well, but I was curious as to what others were doing. Thanks. Still waiting on the final quote before I really start to cry about this... But it will be like a new car! Everything else in the engine bay is new except the engine....

Dual mass flywheels like a stock TL uses are not supposed to be machined.

It really boils down to the condition of the flywheel, wants has nothing to do with it. The flywheel is critical part of the clutch system, if your clutch was gone in a bad way chances are the flywheel should not be reused. If your disc was simply worn to rivets and had a mild slip without heat damage to the surfaces perhaps it could be reused. Inspection should reveal if the flywheel has hot spots, heat damage, or is dished (aka not flat). Due to the thinner layers, dual mass flywheels can look perfect but still be dished. If so, it will never work/last like new.

this is the OEM DMFW for the TL.

Luk DMF Dual Mass Flywheel 04-06 Acura Tl 3.2L 03-07 Honda Accord 3.0L V6 SOHC
$285.50

I think its pretty stupid for them to say they wont warranty the work if youre going to use OEM.
All they need to do is remove 10-12 bolts and put the new one on.

I would definitely have them replace it.

You dont want to end up paying to have the clutch changed then a few months later it starts to slip cause the flywheel is problematic because you'll then have to pay again to drop the frame and trans.
You'll then need to get another alignment done.

The flywheel was trashed. Hot spots and glazing everywhere. The clutch was practically falling apart. The springs were all shot as well. I'm surprised the car was doing so well up until the end. Clutch had 147k miles on it. Really amazing considering that it is a TL-S. I was pretty gentle on it for the last 30K miles, but still I am quite happy with the performance. The master cylinder was shot too. I went too long to get this done, so with all the other work I've done on the car, it will be practically brand new once it rolls out of the shop Monday morning. They were supposed to be done today, but it got delayed, so the shop is picking up my rental car for the entire time. Thanks for all the input!

The first problem I see here is your shop. How the **** is it $1000 more for the flywheel. Even if you had warranty they would give you the run around for a claim. It's a slab of metal and you'll know right away if it's not going to fit. Rock Auto has excellent customer service and parts.
My clutch job, if required, is in the $700-$900 CDN range WITH a flywheel and labour.
