Lumbar Support Problem

Lumbar Support Problem
Problem: I hear it inflating/deflating but it is not actually filling up the "bag" that adds the lumbar support. Did something get disconnected in the seat?
Anyway way at it without damaging the seat?
Thanks in advance all!

I have the same problem on my 07 RDX.. interested on what could be the issue.

My guess is it's a miniature pump inside the seat connected to a bag that inflates...from what I can hear either the hose connecting the pump to the bag got disconnected OR the bag itself popped and is just letting the air escape. I can hear hit a "full" point where it stops pumping and a low point where it would be empty. I don't get it. I'll have to see...looks like the hard plastic on the back of the seat probably opens up to reveal the insides.

Ok for all those with LUMBAR support problems, here is your fix.
A) Do NOT adjust lumbar while resting on it...it will break the plastic that the support rests on.
If you can hear the motor working but no support, this is your fix. Maybe it can be put in the 3G garage as we are tackling problems as they happen as our cars get older.
a BIG thanks to:
donnieb83 for the pics and pointing me in the direction of mmade's thread on installing a headrest tv. It showed me what I needed to see for the lumbar support.
Bascially, with 10 minutes and 3 tie wraps, you can knock this out. 2 for support...and 1 to keep the lower piece on the track. Check images. You have questions, PM me...
Thank you.

+1 for the 3G garage. Looks like several members are having the same problems. I'm glad you got it working! Who would have thought....3 quick zip ties to fix...lol. Nice job man

Thanks man...again, had you not provided that info, I wouldnt' have figured out opening the seat OR what the lumbar support was supposed to look like and how it worked.
Either way, this will be good to share with others, I think.

So my black frame is not broken. The cable is not moving at all. The motor is running, but not moving the cable. I will likely replace the whole motor and cable assembly.

I will test your theory tonight. I like the idea of saving $150. It worked about a month ago, so i hope it is just the cable being off track.

Ok...so a year later and WAIT FOR IT....WAIT FOR IT....
It's broken again...but this time the bottom part of the plastic snapped. I need to see if this is something we can order. Anyone know if you can get the lumbar portion alone?

Ok, so after finding out the part is $180 and you have to remove the seat to get it changed...NOT an option. So, today I took another stab at it. Not bad...I'll have to revise it tomorrow.
Basically I dremeled a little area up top to keep the metal support flat beams from popping out of the top, and tiewrapped the shit out of the broken bottom support. It presses back into the lumbar support so it still works. Great! I also had to pull up and tie up the metal cable tighter to get it to put enough tension on the assembly. Hopefully this holds up!

Normally I hate lumbar support but I do have mine inflated some what and find it very comfortable to our already comfortable and relatively "hugging" seats.
Excellent information you provided!

I understand you're the man to see as it relates the lumber support in a acura tl? Only thing is there's no pictures or they've been removed, would you happen to have them or could you reported them? Let me know either way. Thanks in advance

Lumbar support.
This works: The '05 TL lumbar support is not pneumatic, it is a plastic bending part that uses metal leaf springs for support but come up short at the bottom where the plastic, especially after a few years and pushing hard against it from ingress/egress/dead pedal leg extensions, will fracture. The back of the seat is held by two clips at the bottom and translates up and out when the clips are pulled/broken - and must be replaced. Repair of the lumbar fracture requires more than epoxy (tried that) since it's under both bending and shear stress. Simply splice plates on each side with both epoxy and mechanical fastening (here - rivets).
